View Full Version : Masculine hobbies and femme - how come?

Anybody else confused??
I have very masculine / male hobbies which give me a very heavily muscled physique (power lifting and martial arts).
However I have had a very strong femme side for 20 odd years and really enjoy having this side as well. I dress regularly, a bit broad in shoulders but fantastic legs and butt. I have purged twice totally and cannot exist properly without my femme self - get depressed, etc and accept her as part of me no problem.
Are these extremes common, ie femme and macho - cos they confuse me - how can this be - is it a case of extreme denial ???
:(

It doesn't sound to me like extreme denial. It sounds to me like the "whole you" occupies a wide range on the gender spectrum, and enjoys them all.

No, it is what it is. I think everyone incorporates both sides in their personality, but many choose to suppress it. For some, an alternate or complimentary side holds no fascination. For others, like us, we've realized that our preferred situation is some sort of emcompassing personality. I think it's really cool to work on the house or the car and then clean up and put on a full compliment of sexy undergarments (bra, OB girdle, thong, stockings) with my regular clothes. Works for me!

I too studied martial arts (1st dan Tae Kwon Do) and I was heavily into motorbikes, even kept it in my front room. The only good thing looking back was the long hair and pierced ears.
This was obviously for my feminine side but a great excuse.

I like to ride my motorcycle and I like to crossdress. Macho and Femme.
I just accept it .

A common theory is that CD's pursue macho hobbies or vocations to compensate for the percieved lack of masculinity, particularly in their teens and twenties. Supporting this theory is the possibly disproportionate number of career military, law enforcement, fire & EMS, and construction types in our ranks.
Personally, I think anyone who has the strength to defy stereotyping by crossdressing, will do whatever they wish in other fields. We don't feel the need to fit a niche, we just do what makes us feel right.

I feel quite similar to the OP, although im not as built as she seems to be ;). My male hobbies include cars, video games, target shooting, electronics, drinking with the guys at a hockey game, camping and chopping down trees, yet I still get excited about a big sale, love looking at makeup and shoes, shaving my body, and wanting to femme up.
My issue with it is since I'm in male mode most of the time, I attract people who are attracted to that type of guy, and as a result would be turned off by the whole femme side. *sigh*

I think this is an interesting point that Stephi raises.
I have worked out for over 20 years. Studied Judo, Tae Kwon Do and boxing over the years too. I have a broad frame to begin with but the weight training and other disciplines has not helped that fact.
I enjoying workout and the 'buzz' it give me
BUT
There are times I hate this shape my body now is, as its hard to look fem, yes it is obtainable just hard to find the clothes to compliment the shape. I sometimes wonder when people look at me on a beach and think to myself if only they knew the other side of me :P

This does not seem to be uncommon most of the machoist guys seem to need this outlet my hubby loves dragracing. He has even let me race his car and let me tell you what a rush if I had testosterone it would have been pumping. I think the enfemm is a balance. the ying to the yang.

I have a very macho career, involving running around and shooting guns. I love it very much. I'll sit with this site open and read the posts while i have another window open with gun sales and survival gear sites on it. It can get confusing at times, but hey...i would like to believe i have accepted that this is whole i am. One psyche with two completely different aspects. Screw it if other people find it odd, i think i am at peace with my inner self.
Perhaps we could think of it like this...our psyche is basically a circle, with a person landing somewhere along it's radius. Say, the right side of the circle is "maleness" while the left side of the circle is "femininity." Perhaps for us, our area on the circle lays on either the 6 or 12 o'clock position, incorporating both aspects of maleness and femme.
I might need to sit down and draw this circle out and label it so i could refine it a bit to make it more understandable. Or has a graphical representation been done already...other than the yin yang sign. I was thinking more like a graphical scale of some sort.

I agree.
Now, since no one else mentioned it. QUIT PURGING! :D Get kinda expensive if you have a lot to replace. I've never purged in my 40 yrs of CDing.
And welcome to the forum.

I've never purged either. I don't understand why some people do that. Do they think that the desire goes out with the clothes?

Although I hate most sports, My other interest are male orientated. ( I never did get that Barbie collection happening!!) It is confusing as I do believe myself to be female. Go figure. As for purging, NO WAY. I love my wardrobe too much. !!!

i was just thinking the same thing yesterday. i love to dress, look around and shop for clothing and look my best when i am dressed. but when im not dressed or in that mood, im a totally different person. i'm 21 and have played sports all my life, i love competition and couldnt imagine where i would be without sports. i'm just like any other guy when im not dressed, like the sports, beer, cars, and girls. so i guess that sorta throws me off. i can be 2 totally different people and i know im not overcompensating with masculinity when im not dressed because thats just how i've always been. atleast im not the only one that feels this way.

my femme self with my masculine hobbies. Sports and other masculine hobbies are fun. Many women also enjoy them. My burning desire at the present time is to merge the two. Such as going golfing with my buddies while dressed en femme. It's going to happen soon. Think they'll let me play from the red tees? Maybe not.

Hi All,
I too have rather dichotomous interests: CDing on the one hand and a heavy interest in collecting military arms and militaria on the other. I too, often peruse my gun and militaria forums while dressed en-femme. I don't think I am "compensating" for anything with my other hobbies - all my interests are just a part of me. I like CDing, firearms, militaria, and playing guitar and that is all there is to it.
Best,

I have very masculine / male hobbies which give me a very heavily muscled physique.
Well hun, as my male role, i am a drummer for a local band in Plymouth, some of our songs can be 10 minute heavy metal, to screamo music, so i'm constantly flailing my arms, not to mention using double bass pedals. So well built, however as my feminine side, i'm also a drummer for another local girl band, which allow me to dress up and do slower gigs. Both of my hobbies allow me to be me, and express my feelings musically. So female or not i'd be muscular with my current main hobby.
However, my other hobby consists of Computer Management, as i am trying to set up my own company up, so again, i'd be doing this as well.
I really wouldn't worry too much. I know of some women (two come to mind) who do bodybuilding along with martial arts, giving them a stong appearance.
You'll be ok. I promise. But very interesting post. Would like to see how this goes.

Hey don't worry about it, instead of catagorizing things just be yourself! I'm a GG and I like to lift weights, and I used to take martial arts classes as well. I don't consider that a "masculine" part of me, they're just things I do/did. Remember, masculine and feminine are just words, just be you :)

Hi Stephi. I don't think there is anything unusual about that. I've always loved to exercise including lifting weights and that hasn't changed even though my inner feelings and identity have become much more female. But then I see all the women at the gym lifting weights and its obvious both genders can enjoy working out. I wish I had a smaller chest and shoulders but I'm not willing to give up lifting weights to get it.

I dunno, but I do know you are not confused. I am into cars and drive a tractor trailer for a living, dressed in panties and pantyhose. You are like me and most of the people on this site, they have accepted all of their combined "personalities" and express them to varying degrees. Much better than suppressing some of them, and turning to drink, drugs or other bad behaviors. That is what is great about this site, and the internet in general, you sure as hell aren't the only one out there with these feelings, follow your instincts.

I really don't much of a male side. I dont really care for the things that men do like fishing, trucks hunting football is ok. I really mostly like the things women do, Gossip, Girl talk, Shopping a must. And I love to watch Dallas when it's on tv. Only thing about my male side I really have is watching baseball and women.

A common misconcpetion is that you must eliminate the masculine to embrace the feminine. You'll find that you're happiest when you enjoy both sides of yourself. I don't think of my hobbies as macho or feminine. I know a lot GG who have the same hobbies as I do. They're just hobbies.

I like carpentry and home improvement projects and wood working. And even though they have been linked to 'masculine hobbies' in the past, I think the new wave of home improvement retail outlets and home improvement shows has shown women can add a room or build a table or desk, or an outdoor deck. And I don't mind turning a wrench now and then on my car, and even enjoy auto racing of all types. (God how I would love to go out on road rally, dresses enfemme!) And yes, you don't have to be strong to do these.

Yes I too like watching women especially I pay attention to what women of various ages wear. and I try to work with what I see and encorporate that into my dressing needs. When dressed I try to look like a respectable woman just out shopping or just trying to be my self.

I have a very strong fem side and I have a very strong masculine side as well. I don't wish to deny either side of expressing itself any longer. I love a sport that requires me to be in excellent condition. This means that my fem side suffers because I have to workout with pullups, pushups, etc.. to be good at my sport.
I am not willing to give up something that I love to do just because I want to look fem when I dress. I see pics of some of the cd'ers here and I think, WOW, she is so fem, my god, how any man be that skinny? Well, I could be that skinny if that is what I chose to do. But I choose to balance my male and female sides so that each can be as much as they can be.
Perhaps when I am too old to enjoy my "male sport" that I enjoy so much, I will decide to take on a more fem appearance in my arms, chest and back.
Just being able to dress and feel fem is a wonderful feeling and I spend most of my time at home en-femme.

There sure are a lot of gun toteing, weight lifting, racers out there with me included. Nothing like mowing the lawn in a nice set of bra and panties. Most of us balance our feminine/male sides to our best ability. Go with what you enjoy. I also have a real fast drag car (no pun intended).

I like to Ocean surf here on the left coast (West Coast)
I really enjoy night surfing during the summer months at Malibu.
400 people during the day but only 20 out at night. When there is a red tide (an abundance of plankton in the water the waves glow blueish green. Very strange kinda spooky when the grunion are running and large fish are chasing the schools of grunion. You can easily see their glowing trails below you.
Have yet to see a shark in the 25+ years night surfing. Shhh dont tell anyone then there will be more people surfing at night.

Stephi, I'm exactly the same way, although the sports are different. I dress rarely, about once a year, but when I do it's all girl all the way and out in public. I'd like to lose it altogether(the cding) but it still shows up once in a while. Whoever has an answer will be very rich one day!

There are really no such things as "masculine and feminine hobbies"---only people and possibly clothing are masculine and feminine---the rest is just other people's perception so don't worry about it. If any body gives you a hard time I'd suggest a roundhouse kick to the head followed by a full nelson.
