In the early 1980s, on a second-hand book stall, I came across what was obviously an old (1960s or 70s?) school textbook for girls. It was a guide for teenage girls about female etiquette and covered topics such as hair care, make-up, deportment, hygiene and several sections on clothing. There were a couple of pages each about choosing a bra, wearing stockings, underwear, washing and ironing, etc.
In those pre-internet days when access to such informarion was limited, such opportunities to learn about "being a girl/woman" were rare.
Within the deportment chapter (walking, sitting, posture, etc) was a brief item under the heading "Skirt Management". It was written pre-mini-skirt and pre tights, so was mainly about making sure girls knew how to move, sit, get in and out of cars, etc. while safeguarding modesty and avoiding accidentally "showing" underwear.
My own efforts to find out what it was like to wear female clothing were well-advanced by the 1980s and that textbook helped me to understand the way that girls learned the same thing! In today's world the internet provides masses of such information. A simple search under "Skirt management" produced one particularly clear and good tutorial which, unlike that textbook, included the art of wearing mini skirts. In case it is of interest to anyone here, the link is at: https://youtu.be/tnYvQJRZsHQ

Boy do I remember back then, there had to be a lot of imagination, women didn't go dressed half naked like now. If I seen a bra strap it was like I struck gold. Surprisingly for some reason the skirts and dresses were exceptional short back then and I don't really remember catching much panty views, maybe women really were more careful back then.
But then again it's very common these day to see a women wearing a bra fully exposed and I believe this must put a lot of pressure on young teenage girls to maintain a body to wear half cut tops and showing more and more of there body.

In high school there was a girl [woman] student who wore a white bra. With a white shirt. So you could see the bra outline. Skirt, pantiehose. I didn?t know if I just wanted to be with her or actually be her. Or just play with her clothes. 50 years latter still think of her

My first ever outing dressed was to a big, week long, T convention in Atlanta.:battingeyelashes:
After being corrected numerous times about the way I sat in skirts,, I learned how to either cross my legs or keep my knees together when sitting!:o

Visiting our local town shopping centre recently and seeing it quite busy with, mainly women, shopping, I would guess around 95% were wearing trousers, leggings or even shorts plus tights. It is clear that, however fascinating to older crossdressers (and quite a few younger ones), the greater complications that arise and need to be thought about when wearing dresses and skirts has led to most women opting for trousers, etc. which have far fewer or even no "management" issues. Nevertheless, it's still good to see women willing to wear skirts at least for "dress-up" occasions and, though in small numbers, every-day wear for the office, shopping, socialising, etc. While enjoying the experience of skirts (and nylons, etc) as a cross-dresser, usually for a limited time and without facing the outside world where the "management" issues arise for real, I think I can understand how women saw the new (1970s onwards) acceptance of trouser wearing as liberating.

Skirt management is something I learned many long years ago.
When I began this journey women still wore dresses for most every activity and by observation I learned how to control my skirts. Then in HS and College when mini skirts became the rage I added to my knowledge.

I manage even with ridiculously short skirts and do a pretty good job at crossing my legs. The only funny thing that happened was when I was wearing a very short skirt and was going up some very steep stairs at my local club. The guy behind and below me says , looking good from down here. I had to start laughing.

I enjoy wearing skirts, but I still have a lot to learn about managing them. One of the fun (?) things is when you are waring a fairly short skirt and you sit down on a cold chair. LOL
