My wife had to be out of town on a business trip on my birthday. I decided that I was going to take the day off for the first time in years, get a makeover and have an adventure somewhat different than my usual -- a long overdue gift to myself. The miserable weather in my area, however, forced a change of plans, so off to the mall I went.

Two anecdotes of note. A cashier at a store I went to asked me whether my lashes were "my eyelashes." I said they were and she said that she was jealous. She then asked me what brand of mascara I used. Since it was a professional makeover, I had no idea but I told her what I have been using lately when I attempt makeup. She then told a story about how she used to sell that brand when she worked a cosmetics counter. Now I have to find out what mascara the cosmetician used.

Before she left on her trip, my wife showed me a bottle of her makeup remover, explained how to use it and where to find it in the bathroom. She then opined that this is the kind of advice wives don't ordinarily give their husbands but that "you are what you are." Indeed. I told her I appreciated the advice, thanked her for offering her product and agreed that both of us are who we are.

Melissalynn, With the change of plans at least you ran into a nice cashier. A positive comment always goes a long way.

Too bad the weather changed your plans but it does sound like you landed on your feet. The interaction with the cashier was certainly nice. That your wife told you about her makeup remover, told you where it is and made that comment was a good sign of approval.
Thanks for sharing this with us :)

That was kind of your wife. Glad you made the best of your day, despite the weather.

Great attitude between you and your wife. Each of you accepted the other for just exactly what they are. That goes a long way towards a happy, long marriage.

Well, as the saying goes "the best laid plans of mice and wo(men) often go awry" but you made the best of it. So nice that your wife thought about you as she went away.
