Now I'm the "girl" of the house!

Had my 70th birthday this weekend, and my wife wanted to see all the new things I've been getting in the mail. As I showed her the items, she commented on each in detail which was fun for me. I finally figured out my size (12-14 depending on the fabric and cut) and she asked me to try each outfit on and commented on what she liked and didn't.

I pointed out that some of the dresses and underwear I bought might fit her and her response was immediate. "You like girly things" she said. "Lacy little slipdresses, babydolls and short skirts with frilly blouses. I would never wear anything like you wear, even if it fit".

She then said, "I'm the woman of the house. When you're not in man mode, you're the girl of the house."

I don't know if that was a compliment, a come on or a put down? It certainly has got me thinking.

Your wife in my opinion is stamping her authority on her role in the house.
And rightly so.

I leave the house dressed about once a month, I stay out overnight, but before I leave the house my wife gives me the once over, sometimes she's makes me get changed as my dress is to short for afternoon shopping, lol

Thanks for all the responses. She asked me to wear something to bed for the first time, so I did. A lovely green babydoll nightie with matching panties. No bra or stockings. I woke up this morning with her spooning and her arms around me.

Firstly Happy Birthday, secondly I don't think your wife is putting you down calling you the 'girl of the house ' my wife never calls me a woman she always refers to me either by Amy or girl I.e 'that's a good girl ' or ' you're my girl ', it reinforces her position as head of the house.

I would say she is showing some dominance that she is the #1 female as she should be. Since you are new to the female game she has seniority. How often do you see mature women wearing lacy slipdresses and frilly blouses in public? In my area, noone over the age of 14 would wear these except for lounging at home or amorous play time. I think that's why she called you the girl of the house, not intending it as anything negative. Her asking you to model each one, then wear one to bed, and waking up with her spooning close, arms wrapped around you, says everything about how much she cares and loves you for who you are... all of you. You are truly blessed!

I think your wife was saying, I'm a mature woman, been there done the girly thing and moved on to maturity. I suspect it general, those of us who get the chance, mature later in life than women who were born to such a life. Enjoy the acceptance you have. It's rare.
