Yesterday I had an interesting encounter while out dressed. I ran into someone I know and who knows me.
Here's the story.
My GG friend Michelle texted me asking if I wanted to go with her to get the oil changed in her Bronco. Michelle is fond of zebra stripes, and to promote her salon, she had it wrapped with black stripes and the name of her salon. She calls the Bronco "ZeeZee" and takes the doors and roof off and goes cruising in it. I've ridden in it a couple of times.
The timing of the oil change didn't work for me but I asked if she was available earlier and we could do lunch. That became the plan.
I packed my clothes, played tennis, then went to Michelle's to change. I wore a cute summer dress I had bought at a thrift store the week before. We talked and caught up while I dressed.
We decided on a Mexican restaurant called Wahaka, but we call it Waka Waka. Michelle and I had been there during Cinco De (Dee) Mayo weekend.
We walk in and the young man at the reservation desk looks familiar. He walks us to our booth, does the standard thing with the menus, and says his name is Jack, and that confirmed my suspicions.
I'm a volunteer coach at a local high school and Jack was one of the kids I coached (along with his brother). Jack always had some anger management issues, and based on his demeanor, I don't think much has changed. It's probably been five years since I had seen him last, but I wasn't about to ask "what are you up to"?
He took our order and I tried to talk as little as possible, because my voice is the same regardless of how I'm presenting. I actually wanted a frozen margarita, but he bought a spicy one, which is what Michelle had ordered. Again, I wasn't in a position to try to be noticed.
Michelle asked me if I wanted to go and I decided no, I would just deal with it. She tells me there's enough separation between the two men people wouldn't make the connection.
The lunch was nice and we talked and ate. I suddenly realized that I probably shouldn?t pay by credit card--they're in my guy name, and my Costco card has my guy picture--and I didn't have enough cash to pay. So Michelle paid with her credit card, I paid the tip in cash, and we left.
Following, we went shopping at Plato's Closet, and Michelle bought some stuff and I bought two dresses (and Michelle wants to try one of my new dresses) and she headed out for her oil change.
So did he know? I'm not sure.
