View Full Version : Told my wife I shaved my legs

I was doing yard work in an unbearable 74 percent humidity today, so I had to switch to shorts. My wife did not notice I shaved my legs right away when she brought me something to drink, so I fessed up saying this. Well it is far too hot to wear anything but shorts and I shaved my legs again. It has been several years or more since I had done that to her knowledge. I said I know you do not like it so I will stay covered up when inside or around others. I am sure she does not like it, but she is clearly not angry that I can tell, so that is a huge relief. The deal clincher is likely that I am not going to flaunt my girly looking legs in front of her. Out of sight, out of mind I suppose. That is about the most progress I have ever gotten so I will not be pushing my luck. I guess after 40 years maybe she realizes I am not going anywhere. Who knows. I will know after a few days if she is really going to let it slide or not.

Funny, I haven't shaved my legs in two months and my wife asks me why not. I'm glad you just came clean rather than waiting for the shoe to drop.

I just don't understand this requirement from some women that men must be hairy and can't shave their body. Where does this belief come from anyways? Guess It's just the stereotype that women have of men, just like how men have a stereotype of how women should look. Body hair might of been a benefit back when we lived primitively in cold northern regions where it was insulation.

Most women don't find excessive hair sexy, and the ones that do haven't been around a guy who's clean and are afraid to ask him to shave. From my experience, anyway.
I started shaving my legs about 17 years ago and have been epilating them for about 15, in 2 weeks I'll get what's left waxed for the first time. I work construction, in FL, wearing shorts about 350 days a year, and zero comments.

I've been telling my wife for years that I didn't like the way hair grows in odd patches on my legs and I'd like to just get rid of it. She thought it was weird. Eventually I fessed up and said it actually made me feel more sensual and fueled the romance in our marriage. She's totally fine with it now. So I guess I got a two-fer. We like it as a couple and it makes CDing oh so much better.

I've shaved my legs now for over two years. My wife thoughtis was weird until she talked with her sister an RN,. She told her that her husband doesn't have hair on his legs (he didn't shave, he's also bald) and that it's not an uncommon thing now a days, that many males shave, and becoming a fashon thing, in some cases it's healthies to be clean downunder.

Myself, I've never had much body hair to begin with. Then again I don't have a GF or Wife to say weather I can shave or not.

My type 2 Diabetes has removed almost all body hair below my neck.

Sandi, Good for you girl! I know your situation and mine are similar in many ways. It may be time for me to push the envelope too.
Continued good luck!

Hi Sandi
You can only hope for the best outcome.
I hope it all goes smoothly. (sorry about the pun) :)

I only shave my legs in the winter months when My legs are usually covered in trousers. Out of sight and out of mind.

Thanks all,
Debbie, that is what I had been doing the last few years, only shaving in the fall and winter. Summer comes early where I live so I usually have to stop by the end of January.
And yes Shelly, I like the pun and so far things are going smoothly ; )

There has to be something in my genetic profile because I do not have hair follicles on my thighs and calves. It wasn't until I have in my 50's that a few hair appeared on my chest. When I met my wife I have totally hairless and in the army. Nobody ever made a comment about the lack of hair on my body. It wasn't until I was into my 60's that my daughter, who was sitting across from me, asked me if I shaved my legs. I said that I didn't and it took her so many decades to notice dad has no hair follicles. My father was the same way: six foot and 180 pounds and not a hair on his chest/back or legs.
My recommendation is to start shaving legs from the start so that is the customary appearance. I suppose it can be a little awkward to have totally smooth legs and a hairy chest and back. I remember several decades ago our local Abercrombie & Fitch at the local mall had male shirtless models greeting customers at the door. The young boys always were smooth and hairless.

Ha thanks doc,
I have a lot to be thankful for, and I am far better off with my wife than without. It is probably just as well she is not tolerant because if she were, I would likely have a wardrobe the size of yours. Well maybe not that big : )

Benefits of being a cyclist and swimmer is that nobody has ever questioned my legs, and both my Ex and my current GF met me when I had shaved legs so it was totally normal.
In other news I epilated today for the first time... ouch.

Please just remember that, apart from maybe your wives, literally nobody and I mean n-o-b-o-d-y cares, and more then 99% will not even notice, if you have hair on your legs, arms, forearms, torso, butt-cheeks (that will pass unnoticed by even more people, I suppose) etc.
Go and shave especially in the summer, as it is not only cooler, but applying sunscreen on hairy and hairless skin is like hell and heaven. I hated doing that, now with smooth legs is much better.

Sounds like things are going well. Hopefully, after 40 years, she realizes it?s here to stay and will accept what really won?t or can?t be changed. I keep it subtle, no flaunting. It works. My fingers are crossed that you?ve reached a new plateau.

Imaging if your wife had beautiful long hair and one day she surprises you with a short bob. You might be disappointed.

Hey Sandi. I used to be very hairy. Hated the summers. I would sweat a lot. Then one day, that was it. I saved my whole body. Best thing that I did. Love the feel. No more sweating. My wife said, she liked me hairy and I said I did not. When she started to mention about it, I told her exactly how I feel. You get a new hair style every few months. Brown this month, blonde in a few months later. Highlights today, gone the next month. You never ask me and I guess it was the same. Now, she has grown to like my smooth body. Show those legs. No one cares. I have never got a comment about them. The only comments live rent free in your mind that you think people will say.

That's happened to me. But I love her, and it's her hair, so I quickly got over it. Because I love her.

Your right in your feelings, if your not protesting whenever your wife changes hairstyle and body, you should be allowed freedoms with your body. This regulating how a person dresses and looks is just something I don't get. The belief that a man must have body hair and can't remove it is just silly. No one in public cares weather you have hairy legs or shaved legs.

My wife tells her friends that I shave and wear nail polish. I said what the hell.
She said no big deal. Last week I had nail polish on for 3 days before she even noticed. I guess I am good to go full tilt.

O-A-G:
That's fine to be ok with the change. Discussing it beforehand would be nice. While it may be entirely her decision it would be nice to be included and not feel blindsided and left out of it. What if it was a marine cut and nothing feminine about it? You would still love her but something could be missing.

Obviously, I am not in your situation so only you know the best approach for you and your wife. But if it was me, I would talk to her calmly and explain that you prefer your legs to be shaved and, more importantly, give her time to come around to the idea. The point is, it is only body hair and it will grow back if you want it to.
I hated my body-hair with a passion, and I am so grateful that my wife was fully on-board with my removing it.

Sounds like a great opportunity to keep them shaved year round and who knows maybe in the future you will be doing yard work wearing a skort and a cute top.

I used to shave my legs weekly for years. I don’t have a significant other and haven’t for many years. The interesting thing is that as I age, I don’t even have to shave my legs anymore. It just stopped growing..I don’t know why. I have a full head of hair . Even the hair on my arms is so minimal now. I’ll be 70 in December and I’m glad I don’t need to shave my legs anymore.

I've been shaving from my neck to my thighs since I was in my 20s (so over 20 years), my wife's never known any different - and quite likes it.
It's only this last year, since I was fully out to myself and her about my dressing, thar I've started shaving my legs. I've just bought an IPL machine but I need to stop at my knees and do the bottom of my legs thw old fashioned way - I had a DVT in one leg and it's left a bunch of varicose veins that it wouldn't be safe on.
I definitely love the feel of silky smooth legs though, and there's been no objections yet!

I shaved mine the first time I fully dressed for my wife.
They've been that way ever since and now that's nearly 25 years. I shaved everything that day so long ago and never looked back. Can't imagine having a hairy body again.

I've been manscaping for about 30 - 35 years. When I started wearing nylons 3 years ago (or thereabouts), I started shaving my legs. I shave my legs about once/week. I have light colored hair and it is not thick on my legs and body. I started shaving my chest about a year ago. I also shave the back of my hands and what little is on my fingers. About a year ago I started shaving armpits as well as lightly shaving my arms with a beard trimmer to simply shorten, not remove, the hair on my forearms. I have very little hair above my elbows. The ONLY thing my wife has ever said was (once when her hand rested on my knee momentarily) "You need to shave that stubble. " I don't think she really cares one way or another. I live in a climate where I wear shorts almost daily for a good 6 - 7 months of the year and nobody (golf partners included) has never said a thing.

It's been 2 years since I last shaved my legs. Wife frowned hard at that and pedicures. I need to do both again.

I am not out to my wife. I have been ‘caught’ twice with my legs shaved below the knee caps. Both times she made a couple comments, I gave lame excuses, and we moved on.
I didn't have a lot of body hair before taking testosterone injections 20 or so years ago. When i started the injections, the hair on my behind and my legs became very thick and coarse. I didn't like effect from the shots even though i didn't dress when that first started. About 3 years ago my hand brushed up against my thigh in such a way that it almost felt like i was petting a wire-haired dog. That was a totally unpleasant sensation. I immediately began shaving my thighs but left my calf hair because i didn't feel comfortable being hairless in public wearing shorts. Then, I just started shaving at my ankle one day and worked my way up. My legs are now shaved with every shower. I shave most everything from the waist down leaving a small front lawn for my wife. I just own wearing shorts with smooth legs and doubt anyone notices except for my daughter. She hasn't said anything but I caught her intently studying my legs once and am sure she knows.
I tried shaving my chest and belly but i couldn't stand the almost immediate stubble in those areas. I mentioned getting waxed to my wife to avoid the stubble but she knew I was including a Brazilian in the mix so she nixed that idea immediately. I get her objection but I would love to avoid the stubble that always results within a few hours of shaving. I've tried an epilator and have found that I like shaving more. Permanent hair removal would be awesome but not in the budget.
Her complaint has always been the stubble but I'm guessing she isn't crazy about the smooth legs. After the first year or so of therapy for past marital issues, I came to the realization that my wife has every right to reject anything she wants about me including my feminine tastes. But, with the help of my therapist, I've come to realize that her acceptance or rejection didn't change my core tastes and inclinations. I have felt her rejection at times, but my asserting my taste has more than compensated for any rejection. As a result, she's actually become more resigned to my taste and things have become more even in our relationship. Ideally, she'd actually come to a point of actually appreciating my taste, but I'll settle for where we are right now.

Hey Bea,
One thing that helps with the stubble a lot is using a foil type electric razor in between shaves. It only takes a short time and helps keep fabrics from snagging the stubble so it is more comfortable.
Anyhow, so far so good. No complaints from my wife so I am happy : )
