I had an MRI this morning (yeah, it?s weird they were open on Sunday). Lately I?ve been wearing toenail polish. Six weeks on and six weeks off to let my toenails breathe for a bit. My wife just painted them red a couple of weeks ago and it didn?t want to take it off for just an MRI so I went in with them on.

I had to change out of my clothes and just wear my underwear and their gown. When I laid down on the MRI gurney, the female technician noticed my toenails and said they were cute. 🥰 I thanked her for the compliment and she continued with the testing.

It was a nice feeling to be ?out? even if it?s just painted toenails.

I've been out a few times like that. I went to the ER and the GG had me take my socks off to replace them with non-slip hospital socks.

Mostly, I feel like you. I'm not removing my nail polish to got to the doctor. I even went to the dermatologist a few times with painted nails, knowing full well that I would have to strip down to my undershorts.

One time, I'm at My CPAP doctor and he asks me to take off my shoes and socks. I could have refused, but just owned it.

Another time at Physical Therapy, I had to take off my socks to exercise my toes by picking up marbles with them and dropping them into a bowl. I was very embarrassed at first, mostly because all the patients and therapists could see my painted toes because we were all in the same large room.

I also used to go to yoga classes several times a week with painted toes.

It was pretty much a non-event every time, but I did get some nice complements.

Sandy,

I've kept my toenails painted for about 15 years. My personal General Practitioner and many of his nurses have seen them and other than an occasional comment "nice color" none have reacted to them. I have been to a foot specialist and and several times been treated in hospitals and had them exposed and again no reaction other than "nice color".

I was fully dressed one time and had extreme abdominal pain and went straight to my doctors office. My doctor wasn't in and his nurse checked my vitals and asked if it was OK to be treated by an associate doctor. I said yes and the doctor that came in used to live two blocks from me and we used to run together on the trail in a park one block from me when he was still going to med school. He came in, looked at me, looked at my chart, and studied me for a minute before he recognized that I was the person he had expected to see when he came in. He offered to take me to the hospital, had the nurse help me to the door while he drove up to the back door. He took me by his house and he and his wife helped me remove my makeup and fingernail polish and loaned me some of his clothes since my wife isn't driving and would need to get a ride to the hospital from one of our kids. ( I had a 1" kidney stone)

Recently I had been going to our bank and transacting business in male mode without removing fingernail polish from the night before. About three months ago I started going in fully enfemme about twice a month to transact business. One of the female employees knows me well enough that I don't have to give her my name and she just handles whatever I need. If she isn't in I just hand my drivers license to whoever is waiting on me and they don't react any different than if I was in male mode.

I think in today's world having painted toes and nails is not really an issue with most people.

Sandy,

Here in Cali there is never a issue with painted toes 100% of the time.
I went to Malibu Zuma Beach with 2 other couples. There I am painted toes and all. No comments from with men or women we were with. All my wife's good friends.

Enjoyed reading that Sandy. Can't say I have ever even painted my toenails. Maybe it's about time I did.

I would tend to agree. Or I'm at the age where I am not bother at what other people think. About 15 years I had a physical and forgotten I had my toenails painted when the physician assistant asked me to take off my socks to check for edema. He saw my painted toenails and I quickly said that my daughter painted them. Looking back, I probably would have told him that I liked having them painted or something similar.

On the flip side, my wife and I attended a BBQ with a couple of our long-term friends - people we've know for over 30 years - and the host had a swimming pool and invited us to come over and swim. Everybody at least dipped their toes in the pool but I stayed out because I wasn't sure how I would explain my painted toenails. I suppose it makes sense - more worried about people you value their opinion than strangers.

Hi Jane,
You really should try a pedicure with bright red or bright pink toenails and wearing sandals to show them off. You will get a lot of compliments and will really feel like a girl. The good thing about painted toenails is that you can wear sandals and show them off when you are in male mode. It is not a big deal. I have been doing it for 15 years and always have a good pedicure and fire engine red toenails. You go girl!

I've always found painting my toenails to feel incredibly femme while doing so, and ends up being one of the most affirming part of my CDing. Just looking down at my pink toenails through a pair of sandals or open toed heels brings joy and a big smile to my face. It's details like this that make all the difference IMO. Maybe I'll "mess up" some day and out myself by forgetting and taking off my socks in front of my SO. Would that be so bad?

Good for you Sandy. I have only left nail polish on my toes once for more than a few hours. It applied a light iridescent pink so not highly noticeable and left it on til it wore away. I used to go to the gym every day back then and never received any comments (or even odd stares) in the pool, showers or locker room. One day I saw a guy dressing a few lockers away and happened to notice his toe nails sporting a deep red polish. I really wanted to compliment his color choice but didn't want to draw undo attention to him. He was a morning regular but I only noticed the polish the one time.
