On a couple of occasions when I was out and about en femme, I accidentally locked myself out of my car (once) and my hotel room (once), and once I thought I'd locked myself out of my car. I'll start with the last one, since it was one of the first times I realized I passed. I got out of the car at a park and wandered around, avoiding getting too close to people, and when I got back to my car I couldn't find my keys. I started walking briskly to think my situation through, and wasn't mindful of staying away from others. That's when I realized I was passing, since no one took notice of me. That was a great confidence builder. It turned out my keys had fallen into a pocked I missed when looking for them, and I got back into the car with no problem. But the bright side was when I realized I'd passed, and that confidence has rarely left me.

The second time, I was in Vancouver, BC, (I live in Oregon), and I actually did lock myself out of my car. I had no recourse but to go to a dress shop across the street and ask for a coat hanger so I could fish for the door handle and open the car. I could see my keys lying on the seat. This meant talking to the shop owner, and that went fine-- my voice passed! Another confidence builder! As I was fishing through the window, a man offered to help, and he was able to get the door opened. Wow, I experienced gallantry as the damsel in distress!

The last time, I was in a motel where the checkout time was 11:00 AM and it was only 10:00, so I left the room en femme, went out the corridor door and wandered around the neighborhood, returning at around 10:45. My card key had already been deactivated. I had to ask a maid to let me in to retrieve my things, which she did. Being dressed and already seen that way, I had to remain dressed with my belongings as I took them out to the car, where I eventually changed back into my male clothes.

The interesting thing about all three of these situations was that they actually built my confidence, so they were good experiences in the end.

lol I had a similar experience with locking my keys in my pickup truck I?d gone to my local cigarette outlet for a carton and my key slipped off my keyring and I could see them laying in the front seat. I went into an alteration store next door to the outlet and asked the lady that ran it if I could get a coat hanger from her and she said sure and good luck. I was wearing a blouse skirt and 5? heels btw. Anyway I restled with it for almost 45 minutes then three different gentlemen offered to help
E get in. The last one was successful getting me in he was very nice and afterwards said he was going in to get a pack of cigarettes I told him I didn?t have any other money on me but offered him four packs of cigarettes for his time. He was tickled to death getting them so I made it home then a happy outcome. Thanks for your story.

So here's a scenario that accidentally happened. There was a big party that girls from different areas came too. We all stayed at the same hotel that night and usually had parties back at the hotel. So I get back to the hotel. Change into my pajamas. Go looking for the party. All I had was my phone and my room key. I was sharing the room with someone. They ended up going home that night due to an emergency back home. The room key didn't work after they checked out. I couldn't get back in the room. I had no id on me. It was all in the room and I don't even think my real name would have mattered compared to what I might have given them. Aura I think it was in The other person's name and do we know each other's real names? Even if the first do we know the last? I don't know, it was dicey. It all worked out. I probably knew 20 girls at the hotel. So one way or another, we made it work. Even the hotel staff someone knew me. It wasn't our first party. It was a monthly event, but after that I always took my I. D as well as my room key. And phone.

At Keystone, my key card got deactivated a couple of times. I just went to the front desk and got a new one. Since we pretty much filled the hotel, we were kind of special guests.

LOL the things I don't have to deal with.

Great thread. I have terrible short term memory and dressing is always so transformative (and meticulous) I always forget something.

Plus I would never pass, which is why I don't go out.

When I was still wet behind the ears I came back to my hotel after dressing and sneaking out late at nite. The key didn't work.

So, I had to go the nite clerk dressed up. He sent an assistant to help me back into my room. Sounds like "no big deal" rite?

Well, it wouldn't be these days 20 years later. But, back then my heart was beating out of my chest!

I can only recall one similar experience with a defective key card. My most noteworthy experiences involved vehicle problems. Once my car started sputtering badly within sight of a GM dealership in a small OK city. I spent the afternoon there as they replaced a defective distributor cap. On another occasion i suffered a flat on a U-Haul trailer as I passed through Wichita KS. Had to go to a U-Haul dealer for replacement. In both cases I was traveling cross country enfemme, dressed casually. At any rate, I was treated with great courtesy, politeness and correctly gendered. The breakdowns were a pain, but rather affirming in a strange way.

I left my key card in the room during SCC in Atlanta. Went to the front desk and they were happy to help ... as long as I could show photo ID that I was indeed the woman staying in the room!
Well .. obviously I couldn't, as I had checked in with my male ID and name, and my male ID was in the room too.
It became quite ridiculous, and I had to go to the point of "There are 700+ transgender people staying here right now, what exactly do you expect me to do!" and the front desk manager finally went .... "Oooohhhh ... Now I get it!"
Geesseee!!!!

Back when I was traveling a bit for work and I would bring along lingerie, I got dressed up and went to sleep. In the morning, I put out the room service tray outside the door while I was just wearing my nightie, I very nearly got locked out as the door went to shut behind me. I would say another second or two and the door would have completely shut while I would have been stuck in the hall. I still wonder to this day what I would have done had the door actually shut. That is, would I have been more embarrassed to go down to the front desk in lingerie or would I have gotten undressed and covered myself up as best as possible and gone down naked....I still think the latter would have been less traumatizing!

Another time, my partner and I went to Chicago (I have a post up on this site detailing our trip) and the first night we went out, we came back and neither of our cards worked to get back into the hotel. I don't think we even got to the room: we just couldn't get into the hotel through the side door. So, off we went to the front desk and I asked my partner to take the lead because I was embarrassed about talking to some guy dressed up. She handled it like a champ and another situation in Chicago with getting locked *into* a parking garage led me to get over my fear of interaction with people with dressed up. But it was still nerve wracking as this was the very first time I ever went out dressed up.
