I went to Sally's Beauty (a small footprint beauty supply store) in boy mode.

I'm looking for emery boards (for both of us) and wide width press-on nails for Steffi.

There is only one SA, and she's occupied with a customer. I walk back to nail care and find the emery boards that I'm looking for and grab those. Then I check out the press-on nails to see if there are any wide enough for my thumb and come up empty.

I go to check out. There's only me and the SA. She rings up my emery boards, and says, "Is there anything else?" I said, "I was looking for wide width press-on nails, but I didn't see any." She goes back to look, and even opens a box and hold the nails up to my thumb to see if they fit. No luck.

We go back up front to pay, and tell her that I sometimes dress as a girl. I show her some pics on my phone. The first is a midi. purple-on-white, floral dress. She says, "I love that dress". Then I show her a pic of Steffi wearing a burgundy, sequined evening gown. She loves that dress also.

Then she asks, "Do you perform?" First time I've ever been asked that. I don't perform. I can't sing, and I can't even lip sync. But, maybe I should go to amateur night at the local LGBT bar!

That's so nice and cool by the SA, that she didn't blink an eye and compared the nails with yours. And if you want to do the amateur night, then go for it!

I can't, because as my male-self says: "My singing is banned by Geneva convention as too inhuman."

My singing is banned also. I don't even sing in the car (alone) or in the shower.

But, I lot of the girls lip sync.

I was also thinking of taking enough singing lessons so I could do Karaoke for 1 song.

That's because a lot of people who are not familiar with trans/CD think we all are drag queens among other fallacies. I usually try to educate them some, in a very nice way. Us explaining, if you are comfortable with it, is a great way to help people understand what we are about and not about...

Funny Steffi,

I have been asked the same a couple of times when I was at a club with a drag show, but like you my singing is best left in the car or shower. I do dance though and that is a lot of fun, maybe a little too much fun ; )

That is a great story, Love the interaction form the Sales Assistant.
The world definitely need more interactions like that,

I will agree with Robyn as well. This would be a great time to educate people
if the chance and the conversation allows the more people are made aware
the better off everyone will be.

And as far as for singing, That is totally kept in my head.
and even then sometimes it is really bad, :heehee::heehee:

There really is an amateur night at the local LGBT bar on the first Sunday of every month!

I recall being asked a similar question while I was checking out wigs in a salon. I laughed, and said I dress for my own entertainment, no one else’s

Steffi, I am with you, I cannot sing a lick. I do love drag lip sinking though.

That reminded me of a nice TSA lady in Las Vegas upon seeing my breastforms on the x-ray she asked, "So, what show are you with?"

I was asked that once by a woman sitting next to me on a plane coming back from Vegas. I was wearing shiny red nail polish in male mode. I said no, a she said "Just having fun then?" Yeah. A whole week in Vegas, 100% en femme every day. I was definitely having fun.

I wouldn't say that I perform. Though I have cleared a few dance floors around the world in my time and been left to it, I guess that was performing. Not something I can do these days. :heehee:

If you count lip syncing. A couple years ago a local service club, to which I belong, put on a fund raiser vaudeville show. The committee asked six of us to dress and do a chorus line. I feigned some resistance knowing deep down I?d love it. At first our thoughts were to dress silly, but the committee thought it?d be fun to dress for real. They even hired professional makeup artists. At first several were hesitant, but with some encouragement, really got involved. I was in seventh heaven. We did a dance line with a band providing the music. We did great, had an encore and raised a lot of money.

How did you get lucky enough "to get asked"?

And how did you fake being nonchalant about "dressing for real" with a "professional makeup artist"?

I would be so excited that I would give it away for sure.

A friend of mine on CD.com who I met FtF many times tried out for a role as one of the "Cagelles" in "La Cage aux Folles" in a local community theatre. He got the part. Singing and dancing was required. He might have been the only GM Cagelle in the play.

I have and I do, Steffi. Several TV spots, a pro music video, etc. My most difficult was a nearly 12 hour modeling shoot with a pro photog.

But, no singing or dancing. U got me there GF!:battingeyelashes:

Try becoming a comedy queen. Or....MC an event where talking and joking are the requirements.
