Back in my 20's and 30's, I never went to clubs because I always felt stiff and awkward just bopping around to the music. Then I found country dancing and discovered my dance grove. LOL.

Fast forward 30 years. I'm home alone for a few days so naturally I'm all made up. I was playing with a vintage juke box I recently inherited and started dancing. I suddenly realized, I'm dancing like a girl. Moving my hips and arms like I've seen them do, and it feels so natural. Now, that would probably change if I did it in public. I think my problem all along was that I was trying to dance like the wrong person and that's why it felt wrong for all these years.

Excuse me while I go and dance some more.

I think I know what you mean Stephanie. My guy self never danced - all the dance moves seemed so uncoordinated and felt ridiculous. But as my femme persona - give me more. The interesting, dance moves with the hips and arms as you mention are the women's moves, and they feel not only natural but sexy too.

I'd say dress up and give it a shot publicly at the next CD gathering you attend. Exhilarating!

Am too uncoordinated to dance in any mode. But in a perfect world, I would dress and join the gals Irish step dancing with the Riverdance troupe!

I cannot dance in any mode. It just is not in me. I know some people, maybe most (?) enjoy it, but to me its like a language I never learned.

I'm on the same page as Stephanie: male mode it's very traditional dances (waltz, polka, antebellum ball dances) but never to rock/pop. Geena, however, has had some great fun stepping out to 80's music. I think you caught a key notion -- hips and legs. For me there's also the point that as Geena I'm far less inhibited.

At least with respect to ?club? music and dance, I really don?t think there is any right way for a guy to dance other than benign swaying (unless you have both amazing moves and an amazing 6 pack) It?s another small freedom women have. Enjoy it. :)
