View Full Version : My wife's kind of surprising idea.

My wife loves anything Victorian. To the point that she owns 4 or 5 different Victorian dresses, and I own one Victorian gown. Last week while she was perusing the book of faces she came across a Victorian themed Halloween event next month. This gathering is about two and a half hours away from us here in Indiana. This event includes things like a period funeral and seance. We'll, this excited my wife to the point we ended up with event tickets the same day. I reminded my wife that the only period costume I own is my blue silk ballgown and that this trip was a bit of a drive (we are day tripping the entire thing) and much of it would be during daylight hours. Here (finally) comes the surprise, she simply stated that this was for Halloween after all, and that if I keep my voice low and not talk much, I pass in this costume pretty well and everything would be fine... I then reminded her that on a trip this long we would also need to stop to eat somewhere. Same response... Pretty sure that my wife has been replaced with a Pod Person.
So,,,,, who am I to argue? To me the worst part of this is going to be spending 5 hours driving in a corset. Heck, to finish my costume I ordered a cute Victorian Bonnet since that would be correct in an outdoor setting.
I am actually really looking forward to this trip. It will allow me to wear one of my best dresses for an extended length of time. But my wife... while she is CD friendly this is a stretch for her, though a pleasing one.
The costume I will be wearing.

That looks fine. I've been contemplating the idea myself, since there's a nearby town that has a "Victorian Christmas" each year, a few days before Christmas. I've already acquired a couple pairs of Victorian-style boots, just need the remainder of the costume, maybe with a bustle... I've been looking on Etsy.
wow, go girl. take it all in, enjoy the moment, but this is also your chance to show her you can be ok going out dressed together, I think it will work out amazing !!!

Sounds like great fun, except maybe the long drive wearing a corset. Your wife is wonderful!

This sounds so amazing. What a wonderful chance to go out as a girl.
I've gone the the Renaissance Festival here, and I rented a "wench" costume at the venue and changed on site. Of course that was Elizabethan, not Victorian.
You may want to consider going without the corset, if you can fit into the ballgown. You may also consider staying overnight to get some corset relief. It would be cool checking into a hotel in full Victorian garb, with an unquestionably good excuse.

Sounds like it could be fun, Kimmy!:battingeyelashes:
But, u need to rethink your corset plan. If u tite lace your corsets like I always do? 5 hours in one is impossible!
If u don't tite lace, then u don't need a corset. Wear a girdle and waist cincher instead!
If u do tite lace? Then, stop at a restaurant near your party venue and finish dressing in the rest room there with your wife's help. I've dressed completely this way a few times. A man with 2 big bags entering the ladies room! :o
Use the handicap stall so you'll have plenty of room.:battingeyelashes:

Not terribly worried about the corset. I have been in thus one as long as 12 hours before. Having a very squishy middle mitigate some if the worst issues. Pressure on my hip while sitting is my only concern.

Kimmy, Lucky you, the only issue would be the 5 hrs driving time. Good luck and cannot wait to hear how it goes.
