I recently found myself in Salt Lake City due to interruptions in travel itenerary. I had never been there before so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It became an overnight stay and then two. When it became clearer that I would be staying there for more than just a couple of hours, I decided to do a little shopping in drab. Earlier in the day, I was on a plane and since SLC wasn't my destination, I was dressed in a women's business pant suit paired with a blouse and flats. I was wearing a full face of makeup, complete with jewelry and a handbag. In all the chaos that was followed trip interruption, that's how I ended up at the hotel reception in SLC. On the flight I was seated next to a young woman in the middle seat who seemed quite comfortable interacting with me than with the guy in the isle seat.

Once it was time to decide how to spend the evening, I thought I would catch the Taylor Swift laser show at the planetarium. I reached there just when the doors closed and because it was a laser show, no one is allowed enter or exit until the show ends. The staff was nice but there was just nothing they could do. One of them was a trans woman who really tried to help but once the doors had closed, I just had to leave. So, I found myself at the TRAX station, all dressed for the evening and without any plans.

There is a bookstore, Under the Umbrella, just a block away from the planetarium so I spent the next hour browsing their collection. I didn't find a book that I would have liked to read but I found some souvenirs to take back home with me. The night was still young so I decided to walk to an Italian restaurant and enjoy a good dinner. The greeter and the server were both amazing as was another server who excitedly offered to take some photos for me on my way out of the restaurant.

A long walk in light rain after dinner followed by the train ride back to the hotel was uneventful but not wanting to go straight back to the room, I hung around the hotel lobby chitchatting with some of the flight attendants whose flight got delayed but they had already checked out of their rooms. Once back in my hotel room, I had a nice long bath and changed into a newly purchased nightgown. A cup of tea and some TV later, I went to bed planning on the next day?s adventure.

I have family in Salt Lake. That's a very interesting city with a lot more going on than the stereotypes would imply.

I’ve been to Salt Lake City several times on business. The last time I was there, the first person I saw after I left the hotel was a MIAD. No one seemed to pay him/her any mind. I hadn’t brought any femme attire, so no girl time.
