Mods - if there is a better location for this post please move it there. I couldn't figure out where it fits best.

My question is how many of us have, or would, march in a pride parade? Here in FL, many pride events happen in October rather than the oppressively hot month of June. So, with those events on the horizon it got me to wondering how active we are in the community. Would love to hear your views/experiences.

FWIW, I have not participated in any of those events. But will seriously consider it the next time the occasion presents itself

I have attended Pride parades, but I have not marched in one. I found out that my church was on a float and decided to be safe. I even watched for their float with plans to turn my back when their float approached. I guess that their float was towards the end and I left early.

I would but I never seem to have my calendar aligned.
Seems the day there is a march in my area I've already plans and just never make it.
As the Brooklyn Dodgers used to say, Wait till next year.

I attended a Pride parade in 2023 and then got to march in one this year. It wound through town in a good size parade including local politicians, school bands and a wide variety of LGBTQ marchers. It was a beautiful day and it felt great to have so many people waving and cheering you on. I recommend that everyone try to do it at least once. I will definitely march again next year.

I've seen a few with lots of T girls. But, they all walked or road on vehicles or floats in LA. No bands or marching.

Um, not really.
The closest I can claim is that I was in the "you be the parade" (or whatever they really call it) event at Fantasy Fest in Key West.
It's where anyone who wants to, can be part of a parade that winds through the streets. It's not officially a pride event at all, but there ARE a lot of folks who dress for the occasion.

I wasn't allowed to dress visibly femme(SO's rules, so sad).

A few years ago, not sure if they still do this, in St. Petersburg Florida they had a trans parade right before the regular Pride Parade. That year there were over trans, family and supporters that marched. I was going to march but the traffic and parking was so bad I missed the lining up to march. It was a very impressive thing...

I live in a small town and there are no opportunities to march nearby.

I have not yet, but nearly had an opportunity until plans changed. It is something I would very much like to do, presenting my femme side and supporting others.

Never had the opportunity to mix in with a pride event. They just don't seem to happen in these parts. Or I follow the wrong chats. I have, a number of times, marched to support wild camping events and have another organised for the weekend coming. I am the walking sec for our regional mountaineering club. Not going to turn up dressed though. Oh the pain of the closet.

Never have but would love to. Not really sure how it works. Do specific groups march together or do you just start walking?

I have on a number of occasions. First couple of times were with Masquerade crossdressing social group combined with the Wpg trans support group. Then a couple times with a local night club, once with the local kink community, a few times with the city transit, and even with my own costuming group (my sister and nieces walked with us too). I also performed on the stage after the parade. Last few years I enjoyed being a spectator, but still costuming up.

I did in the past. Drove a bus in it also. Several times! Thanks to the political upheaval and rise in shootings . They have removed all the fun out of the parades in Seattle. It used to be the streets were lined with people and no guardrails of any kind. People would just run out to their loved one and colleges and hug and talk and encourage. Now they have guardrails and a very strict time limit so nobody stops and converses. It's just move it along. If you've never been it would be great I am sure. But for me. It removed the family atmosphere out of the parade. So to that end I have not been in one in awhile.

45+ years ago I marched in London outside the South African embassy in London to protest apartheid. I witnessed police using massive force to subdue a guy doing nothing more than shouting and waving a placard.

The thing is, today, you're almost certainly being recorded on someone's video, be they citizen or institution.
