Today was For Beauty "expo" nearby and I wanted to go since August, so I decided I'll go there early in the morning - they opened at 10. I woke up at 8 and got out of the house shortly after 11. Where did the time go?! I just had a breakfast, shaved, put make-up on, dressed in pre-prepared outfit and left. Yet I was 1 hour late! HOW?!

Anyway, I drove there and arrived at about 11:30, spent about 2 hours there and I bought some small things, at different stalls two scented candles (Christmas presents for GG friends) and mainly body lotion. And here's the thing: Czech and Slovak languages differentiate between male, female and neutral versions of some words (maybe like Spanish?) and the body lotion lady at the end used clearly female version and I'm tripping on it since. Then shortly after at one spot a group of 4 people in their 50's was taking a photo, so I stopped and waited not to photobomb them and one of the men said to the photographer "Hurry up, the lady is waiting." It felt so great! And to top it off when I was leaving I passed by a friend, I was literally next to him and he didn't give me a single thought So blend in as a woman: Mission passed :)

Then I went to a mall for grocery shopping, because I needed some things not available in our local store and in the mall I went to a clothing store I was last weekend at, where I loved a white short faux leather jacket. I tried it on again and I really love it, so I took it as well as red beret, that I was planning to buy too, just online. But since I was there... :) Then I bought last few things from my list in some other shops and headed home.

So today I was seen close up by hundreds of people without weird looks, I talked with several, I drove my car in high heels, I bought things in brick-and-mortar shops incl. clothing and was undeniably accepted as a woman in two separate occasions. One of my best days ever and I totally enjoyed it!

PS: Phrases like ?Will you pay cash or by card? or ?You can have x or y? or ?Do you like more a or b? are neutral in Czech, they aren?t differentiated. So one can?t tell if others would use male or also female versions.

Glad you had such a nice time. It is so liberating to be out in public, isn't it?

Sounds like a great day out in the wild, Marketa! Good for you!
It all has a lot to do with how you carry yourself, how you smile at people, how you look like you belong. Dogs can always tell if people are nervous ... people are much the same!

Yes, very nice that the gendered language match. I have always wondered about seeing a friend, and if I'd blend in enough. Awesome day! :cheer:

And to think, I get upset in america, because it's proper to say, have a nice day, sir, or ma'am, when you pay at the register. Why do they have to guess your gender and stated out loud for everyone to hear? I mean, it's usually not a guess, but you know where i'm going. I couldn't imagine the bulk of a language having to decide which gender to call someone out as.

Maybe "Marketa" is neutral in both Czech and Slovak.-

Wow, that was a great day and such a confidence booster. Based on the pictures you have posted here I can see why you did so well. I know I would have been so nervous seeing someone I knew. You handled it all so well. Congrats!

Thank you, ladies.

And to answer some questions:
Marketa is 100% female name in both countries. It's our equivalent of Margaret I believe.

And what the lady said was "I believe, you will be satisfied."

And I made some photos in the bought jacket at home, so I'll post them once I can.

Great post Marketa. Very instructional!

I think many here who have not, and/or, r afraid to go out should read it. Because it hilites how no matter how u think the Muggles will react to u out dressed? Whether u think it will good or bad?:)

It will NOT be what u think and most likely BE DIFFERENT every time!

And, u mite be surprised by the way u respond to their reactions, too! |

I often think I've experienced and felt everything in my countless outings around the country and planet. Yet, every once in awhile someone reacts to Sherry in a completely unique way! And, I'm occasionally shocked by my responses to people, too!
