If you have followed my earlier posts you will have read about my first time out in public.
It was a magical time that I will cherish forever.
My wife and I joined a monthly T girl / support group gathering, it was in a hotel and we stayed over.
We arrived around 2:30pm and headed straight to our room to unpack. By 3:30pm we was in the bar enjoying a bottle of wine. I familiarised myself with the hotel and found the meeting room where the event was held, luckily the bar and the venue was only a few yards from our room. That put me at ease that I did not have far to walk the walk.
We finished our wine and ordered a second bottle to take back to our room to drink whilst getting ready.
I had a hot bubble bath and soaked up the ambiance and to try to relax before my life changing evening.
I had taken several outfits and wigs but knew what I was going to wear.
I sat at the dressing table fixing my make up and putting my earrings in.
Then came the dress and shoes, then wig, a splash of perfume and I was ready.
As I stood by the door plucking up the courage to open it my wife put her hand on the small of my back and gently pushed me, lovingly urging me towards the door, she said to not think about it and just do it. She said I looked amazing and had nothing to worry about.
With that I opened the door and stepped outside, I felt a rush of energy and emotion run through me as I confidently walked down the corridor. Turned right, past the bar and I was there, at the door of the event.
With a deep breath I opened the door and the room was half full with lots of lovely looking ladies of different ages and a few partners. I met the ladies who were taking names and selling raffle tickets at the entrance and introduced my wife and I. We were greeted warmly and they knew it was my first time, we chatted for what seemed like an age before we headed towards an empty table.
My wife asked if I wanted to go to the bar and order a bottle of wine, I declined as still way too nervous, the bar is in another room just outside the venue room. So she went, I was joined by Carole, the event organiser and we chatted, from there the night went amazingly well, we had a lady come and talk about body shapes and clothing styles as well as the raffle, after the raffle I had the courage to go to the bar and order a bottle of wine, it was so thrilling to go to a busy hotel bar and order a drink, I looked around the room and people were chatting and going about their business, not a single look or comment. I felt empowered, confident and beautiful. Next step was using the ladies, again, not a problem and it felt equally empowering,
When the event finished around 11pm
My wife and I went to the bar and ordered a bottle of champagne to celebrate this milestone, we sat in the bar amongst others and declared our love for each other, half a bottle later we headed back to our room, a tad tipsy and acting like two tipsy best friends. We enjoyed the night so much.
The next morning we headed for breakfast (in male mode) and met a couple of people from the previous night, I only recognised the S/O not the 2 guys with her. They did a good job with make up I guess.
My wife was hung over and slept the 2 hour drive home, I was on cloud nine all way home and have not stopped smiling since, my wife can not believe how happy I now am. I honestly feel like a new man / woman.
We have already booked to return in 3 weeks.
Can not wait to wear a new outfit and meet more wonderful people.
If anyone is in any doubt about doing something like this. Just do it. You honestly will not regret it.

Did I mention before that I'm not one to say "I told you so" but..........

So, next time, how about getting dressed early and sitting in the bar enfemme before the event starts. See if you can have afternoon tea. Dressed, take a walk out to the car on the pretext of getting something you forgot. Little things that gently push the envelope. Confidence builders.

OK, now it's time to rain on your parade. Next time, go easier on the drink. Understandable, nerves do that however that amount of alcohol could potentially see you over the drink-drive limit the next morning and with Christmas coming plod will be out and about looking for those who had "a good time" the night before. You get up, you feel fine but it doesn't take much to get you over the limit. Two medium sized glasses of wine is all it takes. Losing you licence is a sure way to take the edge off your new found joy.

Conscious of this, when I worked my managers wouldn't allow anyone to leave the hotel until lunchtime the next day following a boozy team event. Not worth the risks.

No wonder you're on cloud nine. That's an evening to be envious of :)

I'm glad it went so well and you and your wife enjoyed it so much.

Oh yes Helen what an amazing idea. I will definitely arrive earlier and use the spa then get ready and go to the bar earlier enfemme.
Those ideas are wonderful.

Drink wise, I think I had 2 bottles and wifey had 3-4 hence her being hung over, it was over a long period of time too, plus the breakfast and the late check out, I was perfectly fine the next day, fresh as a daisy. But I do get what you are saying.
I probably had 9-10 glasses of wine over a 10 hour period then didn?t drive for another 12 hours.
I paced myself mainly due to wearing quite high heels lol. Xx

I am glad you had a great time. It is great your wife is on board.

Helen?s advice is good. Have some drinks but switch over to non alcoholic at some point. You can ruin a splendid evening if you have too much. I learned that the hard way and limit my drinks now. There are some old posts about my mis adventures.

If you go places to dance, that can be a lot of fun. Just make sure you practice at home and wear shoes that will not hurt your feet. Just a tip.

Have fun out there.

You have experienced what for me was a defining moment in my CD journey. I had slipped outside a few times, but it was meeting up with another CD, and then attending a social group meeting and meeting like-minded people that really inspired me. I followed suit the following fall/winter, mostly to renew ties with some of the ladies. I hope to work things out this year again. It isn't easy for me to find Geena time and I might well have almost given it up had it not been for going to the meetings.

The Genie is out of the bottle, no turning back now, just remember your wife, dont push her to hard, but to much to soon could make her wish she'd never let the Genie out, Im ok, I go out dressed alone, so no pressure on the wife everytime I want to go out. All I get is let me inspect you before you go out, I leave the house dressed.
