How it started...for me, at least!

So I've seen a few posts recently from girls who've reached an X year anniversary of joining this site and it got me thinking about my own anniversary - though of the date that Something Changed for me which is just a week or so away, rather than on joining this site (which I did in Feb this year).

I'd like to write up what (and how) changed last year to turn me from a rarely active to a very regular CDer, mostly for my own benefit but also in the hope that you ladies might enjoy the read.

But before I do, I was thinking about what started it all for me and thought I'd share.

In my late teens (so the mid 90s) I worked in a pub which had a fancy-dress charity event at the end of the summer. My then-girlfriend suggested that I and her brother dress as naughty schoolgirls, having some skirts she could lend us to go with our own old school uniform shirt/tie. All that was missing were the holdup stockings which she went out and bought for us both.

God I loved those stockings! The way they felt against my skin, the way they felt when I ran my fingers along them... I kept them at the back of my wardrobe for years after, until they were old and tatty. I'd get them out when I wanted a "quck thrill" (so's to speak) for years later.

They really were my first taste of dressing up girlie and I really should thank my ex for them! (Ha, we're actually Facebook friends but I'm sure I never would!)

Anyway, she took a picture that day. It's a very low res copy and I've fully blurred out the face of her brother who is on the left.

I still think my legs look great in stockings! :battingeyelashes:

That is a cute origin story. Isn't it interesting how the seed can sprout and take root? Each of us has our unique remembrance of how we began. That might make for an interesting permanent section of the Forum.

I see "Fancy Dress" party mentioned in quite a few British TV shows. Watching British TV it seems a man dressing as a woman is almost a national sport or pastime. I don't hear about it phrased as Fancy Dress here in the US. Though for some of us Halloween is everyday.

Seems most of us have a "spark" moment to the beginning. Mine came in 1972.

Hi Danni
You're not the only one to be entrapped into a life of crossdressing by their love of nylons that's how my wife saw the opportunity to completely change our roles and I now wear them 24/7.

For me it was nail polish. When I was 3 I talked my mother into painting my nails a bright red. I loved it (and still do.) I evolved slowly, but by the time I was in junior high school I had evolved to the point where I as dressing fully with a bra (stuffed with socks) panties, slip and a dress. (All borrowed.) Now I have my own clothes. And like many of you, I love pantyhose, and stay ups, and garter belts, and … You know the rest.

That's a really nice story. We can't but it would be fun if we were able to see consequences of such small things in our future.

I've always thought of it as the aptly named "butterfly effect".

"The phrase "the butterfly effect" refers to the idea that a butterfly flapping its wings can create small changes in the atmosphere that may have large consequences."

In some sense, butterfly is a double entendre.

Thanks for posting this story Danni. My interest in women's things began when I was 9 or 10 yrs. old and has been part of my life ever since. In fact, it became more than just part when I began living full time as a woman 30 months ago. And yes, your legs do look pretty good.

Many years ago, nylons, too, started me on this path, and remains my #1. I totally understand your feelings of enjoyment of putting them on and their feelings when worn, which are most days, regardless of the weather. I, too, catch myself running my fingers over, crossing my legs running my hands up and down my calves. I?ve seen women do that, wondering if they enjoy it as much as I do. I enjoy hand washing them, carefully hanging them to dry, then neatly folding them before putting in my stocking drawer. I hate taking them off, and sometimes just leave them on. Nice picture. I enjoy thigh highs.

I believe what started it all for me was seeing and feeling one of my moms silky bras. Never wore anything until I was living on my own and I found a black 36B bra in my laundry (apartments had laundry rooms). I tried it on and never looked back. I now have more girl clothes than guys.

I'd not thought about it but yes, I think that's true. Cross dressing for fancy dress seems to be a standard default in the UK. I suppose I'd just assumed it was an international thing!

Looking back i do remeber many times when I was younger where there were signs. I had a bit of a traumatic childhood so some things I've seemingly blanked out and others I remeber but can't remwber how old I was at the time.
So I remember helping myself to my mum's makeup and trying it on, no exact age but I was under 5. I have such a vivid memory of wanting to know how it feels to put lipstick on.
I remember asking her if we could buy me an outfit like one of the girls on our street who I used to play with and being told "those are girls clothes". I think this happened more than once, again I must have been 5 or younger.

And yes, your legs do look pretty good.

Thanks Fiona! :battingeyelashes:

Yeah I've been interested in chaos theory since the 90s, such an interesting branch of maths/science.
Always thought that "strange attractors" was such a beautiful term!

In some sense, butterfly is a double entendre.
Ha, I'd never thought of it that way until now!

Love the pic and it looks like you have long beautiful legs. Sometimes you just light the pilot light and then the burner fires up, sort of saying. Sometimes that's all it takes. For myself it was sharing room with a slob sister who left a pair of beige pantyhose on my bed headboard and my curiosity got the better of me. Let's just say there were fireworks going on in that room that morning and the beginning of a beautiful and life filled with many challenges.

I was a curious young lad and one day when I was alone in the house, I tried on a pair of my mothers nylon panties that were in the hamper. And now I?m here.

I found my mother’s girdle and nylons in her dresser drawer and slipped into them. I was about ten at the time and it changed my life.

Reading over people's stories here, that seems to be very common - "I tried on X, and that changed everything".

For me it was trying on my mom's bra. That was decades ago, yet here I am, writing on crossdressers.com wearing a bra, panties and stockings.

I was just age 5 when I tried on my ( single) mom's strappy stiletto heels, her nylon stockings, her corset, her bra ,all of which she'd left in the bathroom.
It felt like pure paradise slipping into these women's items, like entering a totally new world, even at the age of 5.
I was hooked on this "paradise" forever, and stole her clothes to secretly c-dress for 5 years, until she discovered me, when I was age 10.
After that, she was very good, and bought me the female clothes I wanted, and helped me put on make-up. And I always wore girls clothes at home
I think in some ways she was happy that she'd got a "sort-of" daughter, as I always had the feeling that she really wanted a daughter, and was a bit disappointed that I'd been born her son.

Stockings did it for me and still do, especially black ones.
Heels are second.
I tried both on when I was young, very young.
I always loved feminine things but only dressed in panties for many years.
It wasn't until Corvid that I started to dress in earnest, wig heels and many outfits. :)
