I've had cross-dressing urges since I was 5 (I'm 45 now). I'm married to a lovely woman I met 28 years ago. We love each other dearly and she knows my secret since we started dating. It's been difficult for both of us, she reluctantly supports me but she isn't crazy about my crossdressing and it isn't such a turn-on for her. So I suppressed it as much as possible for many years, to make life easier for her, appreciating the rare occasions it happened. However things have recently improved beyond what I ever hoped for, and she was willing to go out with me dressed. We went to the Halloween on Church st. (Toronto's LGBT area) and it was fun, albeit crazily overcrowded. She would be willing to go out with me dressed and we're looking for ideas!
We're looking for CD-friendly places and events, where there's socializing or a show (could be a drag show or a theatre performance, or a concert etc.) in Toronto / GTA where we could go and spend a have a good time in a safe environment where neither of us would feel too anxious (beyond what I'd naturally feel in any non-Halloween public environment for the first time, but I'll deal with that I hope). We're totally unfamiliar with LGBT-friendly events and areas and Googling wasn't really much help - some places are too weird and some are not weird enough, and it's hard to tell which is which :) Nothing really looked "just right".
One other amazing idea she suggested is to go out for a weekend to a hotel somewhere (Niagara Falls?) where I could dress and we could spend a weekend. The trick is to find where to go out. Are there any areas outside GTA that are positively LGBT-friendly where a crossdresser would be a usual thing to see and nobody would care? Any clubs, shows, or events that would be appropriate that anyone can recommend? I'd love to realize this idea, it's a dream come true. But so far I can't figure out the location. I'm not ugly, but I'm not exactly passable - well, maybe from 30 meters away if you squint I could be... So just going out to a concert or a club where everyone else was "normal" and I would stand out like a sore thumb is not a good idea, it would feel very uncomfortable...
I appreciate any advice or alternative ideas...
