I have been dressing off and on since I was 14 now 70. I stopped a year and a half ago for some family reasons. As many (most)(all) of you know it never really goes away. Yes I gave all the clothes, heels, makeup and jewelry away. I know, I know.

I am close to starting up again. My question for those of you who started back up after a year or two, what did you start with? Makeup? Wigs? Panties and tights and shoes? I'm curious and looking for advice from this wonderful collection of sisters who understand.

Thanks,

Tiffany

Im assuming you purged completely. In that situation I would budget for a reasonably good quality wig, bra and shaper or whatever foundations you prefer, some economical makeup (Elf is good), and just a couple outfits that you know you will wear.

I kind of like what Kimdl93 said but add that you might try some good secondhand stores just to have something you won't mind tossing if you should purge again.

I have gone through similar situations due to moves and job changes. I alway seemed to start back up with panties. Easy to hide a small stash and easy to wear without anyone knowing.

seems to me that you ought to decide what items are most important to you. We can't help you there

Depends on your definition of transformation.

My transformation is not complete without lingerie, clothes, shoes, wig and makeup. I can take or leave breast forms, so I wouldn't need to get those in order to restart crossdressing.

I restarted this year after my separation and have purchased everything above.

From my perspective, it would be panties to start. So basic and easy. From there, it?s your call. The skies the limit! I?d probably do pantyhose and bras. Then off to the thrift store for outer wear. Then shoes and makeup and wigs????.your journey, so enjoy!!

Wig, panties, tights, shoes and a dress at the very least. Good luck as the same happened to me.I still have a limited amount of clothes and regret my purge, but circumstances dictate .

Look on Amazon, I'm sure they have a Crossdresser Starter Kit somewhere :)

But seriously, thrift stores for clothing and footwear, Amazon for the essentials such as forms and padding. Shouldnt be hard to put together a basic few outfits.

My purges were always followed by lingerie purchases and shoes.
As they say in construction, you need a good foundation (garment) LOL.

First of all, I have never purged, and have not even pruned very much.

I guess it depends on what really makes you feel femme. It also depends on whether you're planning to stay (in the house) or go out and about.

But if I had to start over, I'd start from the inside out: panties and bras. Tights and pantyhose have never been such a turn on for me. I have plenty of them, but mainly used them to cover my hairy legs that I couldn't shave for family reasons. I would also get some (cheap) breast forms because they made such a difference in how I felt. I still like to sleep in a bra and forms when I can.

Next, I would do outerwear, either in a casual top and jeans or leggings, a skirt and top or a dress.

I would do makeup and hair last, because they don't instantly make me feel femme. However, if I was planning to go out and about. I'd get makeup and an inexpensive wig. When I go out, I prefer to look all girl, not androgynous. I would get less outerwear to purchase makeup and a wig.

Shoes for me is always difficult, as I'm a size 11/12. I do have some pairs of boots that fit and look wonderful with almost everything.

I did laugh at Suzie's comment about a starter kit for CD's on Amazon.
I had to lock it up and yes they are there. Who knew?? LOL

I haven't purged, so I have not had to start up again.

But if I were starting out, I get a few panties, two or three bras (white, black, "nude") and some breastforms. If you want to save money, foam breastforms are pretty cheap and they will fill out your bra.

As far as outerwear goes, you can shop the clearance section of major retail sites like J.C. Penney, Kohl's, Old Navy, etc.

Buy a ticket from Atlanta to Detroit then rent a car and drive to Janet’s Closet! It’s worth every Penny! One stop shopping so buy one of everything!! Bring extra luggage and a couple credit cards!

Thanks for all the insights and suggestions. I have a plan formulating in my mind now.

I will start with lingerie as I like to shop for skirts and tops and bottoms while wearing panties and usually a camisole under my boy clothes so that I can go into the fitting room and try on items. So ready to head back into a DSW for some heels. Before I stopped this last time I had gotten to know a couple of MUA's at ULTA and Mac and I hope they are still there.

Last step or really first step is 5 days at my desired weight. That is motivation to get there. Need a little food discipline.
