Wow, I have just had an amazing 24 hours.
Went to a trans social / support evening, I have attended twice before with my amazing wife.

It has been a 24 hours of firsts for me.
I drove there dressed, full make up and wig, wearing tight blue jeans with a grey roll neck pullover, cow girl style ankle boots. It was a 2 hour drive and even stopped along the way in a lay by to add screen wash to the car. I felt amazing driving whilst fully en femme, no nerves at all.
We set off early and arrived in the town 3 hours early so decided to go visit the shops, another first for me, we parked in a multi story car park on the 3rd floor, nerves kicked in as soon as I exited the car, I put on a long padded coat as it was very cold and headed towards the lifts / staircase. My wife reassuring me telling me I looked great and not to worry.
Once at the lift, I panicked and decided to take the stairs instead. It was a town I had never visited before so I was not sure of my surroundings.
At the foot of the stairs was a narrow street which lead directly to the high street, we walked past lots of people and I was so self conscious, constantly monitoring all the faces walking towards me to see their reactions. There was not any, not a second look or even a grimace. As we walked further my confidence grew, we walked what seemed like an age before my wife suggested we went into a store called river island, there was a sale on and it was a bit of a relief to be off the high street and into a womens store, once inside we checked out all the sale rails looking up occasionally at ladies walking by, again, no second looks or awkward feelings.
I did not find anything in the store so we exited back into the high street. More confident and with a bit of a spring in my step we browsed more shops before heading to Marks and Spencers where I found a nice peach pullover and a lovely denim skirt. My wife went to the tills to pay as I wasn?t quite ready for that yet.
We strolled around a few more shops before heading back to the car.
Once back at the car a huge wave of emotions ran through me. I did it, I felt on top of the world. I was buzzing inside.
We made our way to the hotel.

We arrived at the hotel 1 hour prior to check in so headed straight to the bar, another first for me, visiting the hotel bar fully dressed. I swapped the long padded jcoat for a woolen poncho. We met some other couples there that were attending that evening, I was the only one dressed. The staff made us feel welcome and no strange looks from other hotel guests.
By now my confidence was sky high, we ate lunch, shared a bottle of Prosecco then checked in and headed to our room.

A long soak, shave, fresh make up and a change of outfits ready for the evening meeting, I wore a grey above knee dress with black tights / pantyhose and grey stillettoed ankle boots. Jewelry to match. The event was a celebration of the groups birthday, so the meet was a birthday party theme, lots of wine consumed and met new friends. feet sore from dancing all night and having so much fun. We headed back to our room at 1am.

Next morning was another first for me as we headed down for breakfast again fully dressed, this time in trousers and the new peach woolen pullover I had bought the day before, we sat with some others from the group, had a few coffees a full breakfast and chatted about our respective drive homes.
I packed the car and again drove home fully dressed stopping at a Starbucks drive through enroute, served by a young guy who asked how my day was and was especially nice to me, I felt sooo good and very proud of myself. We continued the journey home and with a smile on my face that will take a long long time to remove.

Thanks for taking time to read about my adventure.
Hope you like it

You start off saying a lot happened and then you talk about getting pulled over and laid, and i'm thinking all in the same twenty four hours? Sounds like exciting times in... the UK.

Oh, i think I misunderstood. Let me get back to reading.

The rest of it sounds tame, by comparison. Glad it went so smoothly. We can be our own worst enemy if we let our mind run rampant. You can't worry about what you can't change. People will think what they think. You can only concentrate on making your best impression. Look what other women are doing and act like them.

Since you're looking to be out, it might be helpful to have someone video you just walking and being you in public. If it's wide enough, you can see other people reacting to you or not and also how you stand out compared to them or not.

This can be scary if you really stand out. Now you'll know. It can be helpful if you are the kind that want to fix that and make improvements in what you do and how you act. That's up to you. If you don't like what you see and it's a lot to fix, you might really take a hit in your confidence. So consider that before going forth with the video of yourself.

Enjoy the journey!

Verona, what a wonderful story. I agree with Genifer that we are often our own worst enemy but it sounds like you made it through fantastically. Having a supportive partner is also a way to make things a little easier so I am glad you have that as well.

I understand the fear or uncertainty in interacting with the public when dressed but I can assure you it really isn't that bad. Generally speaking, you are not going to get anything more than a glance or a whisper, if you even get that, so really it is just about your confidence in yourself to keep on going. As for not being ready to pay for things yourself, I think about a common trope about guys hitting on saleswomen (I promise this is going somewhere). You may sometimes see guys complaining about asking a girl out and them saying "no" and their reaction being "but she was so nice; she must have been hitting on me!". Of course, the response is often that the saleswomen are paid to be nice so of course they are nice.

It is a wildly different scenario but I do find a little solace in that this can be applied to us as well. The idea that salespeople specifically are less likely to be outright rude or hostile because, after all, "they are paid to be nice". This doesn't excuse bad behavior of course but as long as you are civil and acting appropriately, it is a good way to practice interactions with people when you are more sure that the reaction is going to be positive. Or, at least, neutral. Then you can move on from there and have more confidence with interacting with others. At least, it seemed to have helped me.

In any case, it sounds like a success for you and hopefully we get to hear about more of your adventures :)

Hi genifer,
Thanks for the insight hun. X
My height is only 5?7? and my build is not big, I have mastered the walk and mannerisms, I have videoed myself lots of times walking and I think I do ok, so none of the above was an issue for me I just felt paranoid as hell, thinking people would see past the makeup and have a bead reaction,
It was all just first time nerves, I know for sure that next time will be a lot easier. Especially with the support of my amazing wife.
