I finally took a major step.
Recently while travelling for work I took a dress, wig, silicone breasts along with some underwear and a pair of shoes. The plan was to just wear them in the hotel room but in the warm evening (36 degrees Celsius I decided to do something I have never done before and went for a walk around the city area. There was a lot of trepidation as I got into the lift on way out and started walking. I didn't have any make up on as this wasn't my plan but I have very little facial hair and what I do have is blonde anyway. There were a couple of obvious moments when I could tell people were ridiculing me under their breath but my thoughts were along the lines of I know nobody here I don't care. I walked around the waterfront area where there were people out and about and had no worries.
Getting back into the lift at the hotel a couple also go into the lift and I must say that was the most awkward I felt. I am back there next month so may do it again and this time intend to take some makeup. Always cautious about not going into dark areas as there is now a very emboldened part of society that feel ok to strike out at CD?rs

Good for you girl!!!! I remember that first time well. I must have checked 3 times to be sure I had BOTH room keycards in my outfit to be sure I wouldn't get locked out. I looked through the peep hole several times before cracking the door slightly to see if anyone was in the hall. When I finally stepped through the door, it was terrifying. Good news ... it gets easier, and better the more you do it!!

That outing will be burned into your mind forever and rightly so. Good going girl. What a feeling huh? My few outside adventures were similar in that I was traveling for work. I got dressed and decided I needed to stroll outside. Suddenly totally in female clothing outside your normal space is exhilarating. My traveling/work days are over and I miss those opportunities. A story I may have told here, don?t remember. I had packed my stuff in the trunk of a rental car for an overnight road trip. I then proceeded to pick up a coworker. When I opened the trunk for her to put in her bags, she saw my bags and commented that I packed more than a woman. If she only knew, I was packing for two. That night I ventured out, and was hoping she would not do the same.

That sounds exhilarating and fun. Good for you for stepping out and enjoying yourself. I imagine the people outside were less affected than your imagination would lead you to believe but I get it along with the feeling in the elevator.

Congratulations Monique. Did someone obviously clock you or were you just expecting someone would.
A lot of this is in our mind, as the first outing is the scariest.
Do you think a little makeup would have made a difference to your confidence?

The first time is always the hardest and scariest. In time it will be second nature. Makeup will make you fill better about yourself going out.

Good for you, Monique and I'm proud of you.
First few times out are so thrilling and exciting. Also great attitude towards strangers. If they don't know you and you don't know them, so who cares what they think?
Enjoy your next time with make-up and stay safe, darling.

That getting into an elevator with vanilla folks used to freak me out for years!
Now, I like looking at the folks looking at me. And, even have short conversations with some!

Monique, was the dress and heels a bit more than the usual attire for the time and place? I truly enjoy dressing up but if I'm planning on going out, I try to dress just a bit above the norm and have been quite surprised at how little reaction I've been able to have. Picking up things at JCP or waiting in line to check out has often resulted in a conversation started by the women in front or behind me, but one of the best was having a manager stop by my table to see if I was happy with the meal and service, not even a hint of a reaction other than she was talking to a customer who was enjoying their meal. I bet if there was a wedding at the hotel and you were out when the guests were dressed up you might not have seen as much of a reaction, you might even not have been noticed!
Most importantly, YOU WENT OUT! The first of many I hope, can't wait to hear about #2!

YES! This is my story too!
I was on a work trip or maybe it was for a job interview... I forget. I could not find any mention of this experience on my blog... Anyhow, I got brave enough to step one step out into the hall while dressed pretty (presenting male in a skirt/dress). Later, I was brave enough to walk down the hall and back. I don't know if these were all on the same trip or not. One day, I got brave enough to go down the hall and to ride the elevator to the lobby to buy something from the store in the lobby or something like that. I was SO SCARED. Then, a woman got onto the elevator with me. She was polite and pleasant. We spoke minimally. I was so uncomfortable and nervous. She was not conspicuously awkward about it.
Fast forward a couple years and I went to breakfast in a skirt at a hotel. That was tough, but I did it!

Yes, Good job.
Yesterday I realized I ran out of smokes. I was all dolled up for my usual Monday dressing at home. Well, screw it. I drove to the store to pick some up.
I am sure the young lady saw me as a Transvestite. So what, here is what i looking like.
