View Full Version : Just curious: for people reading as guests: why not sign up to be a member?

I've been on crossdressers.com for many years. And in all that time, I notice that there has always been far, far more people reading the "Male to Female Crossdressing" forum as a guest vs. a member.

So I'm curious: if you are a guest, what keeps you from becoming a member?

Are you just curious about crossdressing/crossdressers?
Are you concerned about someone finding out about your crossdressing? (I understand - I'm "in the closet" myself)
You see no benefit to becoming a member?
Something else?

I'm not judging anyone who is visiting...just curious!

As someone who lurked for a good while I'll reply. I think for me it was fear of exposure, that going public as it were would out me. Someone I know would stumble across the site, put 2 and 2 together and my secret would be out. I can remember hovering over the click to join button before finally making the plunge.

My first avatar was of me so far way I had trouble recognising me.

Hopefully those who do currently lurk can read this and be assured that non of my fears came true and that the benefits of joining are so great you kick yourself for not doing it earlier.

I also lurked for a while, it was a fear of being found out that stopped me joining, until I realised that fear was entirely misplaced. But I was still in the closet when I first started looking at this site, I think that played a part.

Same here, long time lurker who was afraid of the consequences of somehow being found out.

I finally signed up, then posted pictures.

And after a while, I began to care a lot less.

I started posting regularly at Kandi's. I sent Stana a before and after picture. I allowed my GG friend Michelle to post a Halloween picture of the two of us on her Facebook page (with others), and it got about 100 comments (none about me). She's posted other pictures of me on FB. I outed myself to the wife of a long time friend. She has been incredibly supportive.

It turns out, the fears were in my head, but not real. Life has gone on. It became better after I started going out dressed. Done lots of stuff I never thought I could do dressed; dinners, concerts, ballgames, flying, bikinis at the beach, having female friends.

I suspect 90% of the lurkers are those afraid like I was (right now, 18 guests viewing, two members) and the other 10% are admirers. No way of knowing--just a guess.

But if you're one of the 90%, come on In, the water is fine.

Most of us were in that situation. I recall (vaguely now) being drawn in by curiosity, but hesitant from joining (briefly) mostly because joining felt like a formal acknowledgement that I was indeed a cross dresser.
