Last month I attended a funeral at my church. I wore a black dress with makeup and heels. I walked up to an elderly lady and introduced myself as John. The lady replied, "I can't believe your name is John". I replied, "If you don't believe me, I'll show you my drivers license".
I guess I did not come across as a man in a dress; rather, I came across as a woman.

Very nice for you John that must feel great. I recently joined a welcoming church - present and introduce myself as Jesse. Not fooling anyone but everyone I?ve met so far is very nice.

Hi John,
It sounds like you pass as female, do you present full time as female and if so is there any particular reason you don't use a female name. For me personally taking a female name makes me feel more feminine, even though my real name is unisex and more commonly given to girls than boys, I still perfer using a different feminine name. If I ever did transition I'd probably just stick with my real life name as from a practical and legal point of view it would make things more straightforward

Yes, I present full time as female except for my bass voice. The reason I use my real masculine name and not a feminine name is I would REALLY like men to broaden their clothing choices. In particular, men by convention are restricted to coats, ties, and trousers for formal wear. I rebel against that by going full bore with wearing dresses, and for formal occasions, makeup, heels, and hoop earrings.

John, I give you credit for your willingness to put yourself out there to push for more options in men?s clothing. I often think, yes I would love to put on a pretty dress. I?m a big chicken, especially with my wife?s disapproval. Keep up the fight!

Another reason I dress en femme is I'm sick and tired of seeing so many women wearing trousers to church, especially wearing jeans and sneakers. One chilly morning (-7 deg C/15 deg F) in 2024 February, I was sitting at a table during Coffee Hour after the service, wearing a dress along with trouser wearing women, and said, "Sometimes it takes a man to wear a dress."

Something that I have never done is to go to a wedding or funeral while crossdressed. I think that would be a sign that I have really come to terms with my crossdressing to be able to go to one for someone I actually know.

I have several V neck wrap dresses appropriate for a wedding guest but I have not attended a wedding en femme yet.
