My GG friend K and I went to afternoon tea at a restaurant about 25 minutes away from us (K lives just up the street from me). Let me say it was fantastic. This restaurant is not a tea room, but they do teas from time to time. When K and I walked in, the owner/hostess said "Welcome, ladies!" and led us to a beautifully set table for eight. We were the first to arrive. Soon five more ladies arrived. We all introduced ourselves to each other. K and I had sat on opposite sides of the table, so we could talk to the other ladies. When one of the other women was seated, she said "hey, ladies" to K and me. Obviously I was on cloud 9.5. The food was wonderful. First she brought a chest with 10-15 different kinds of tea. Each person got their own teapot. Then each person got a two-tiered plate with sandwiches on the bottom plate and dessert on the top. And if this wasn't enough, she brought out for each one of us a plate with a chocolate ball filled with ice cream, and the plate was decorated with gilded strawberries (edible gold leaf). THEN they poured a little chocolate sauce on top. WOW.

While the food was great, what made the afternoon great for me was that I was completely accepted by everyone at the table. We chatted about all kinds of things, where we worked (or had worked), various local restaurants, etc. The age range was from around 30 to 70. Heather, the 30-year-old was sitting next to me. She quit her corporate job and wants to open a tea room. We promised we would come and be her guinea pigs and be regular customers after she gets it open. I just felt like another one of the women. K and I had a fantastic time.

I had ordered a fascinator from Amazon last week, because I didn't really have a fancy, tea-party hat, and I loved it. I think it really completed my outfit.

Also, the ladies's room was awesome. Each stall (the doors were all open when I went in) had a different framed picture of the cast from "Sex and the City". More fun girlie stuff on the counter with the washbasin, and a couple of shelves with very nice high heels on display. So cute!!

Anyway, it was one of the best going-out-dressed experiences I've ever had. Total acceptance (I have no idea whether I passed -- I certainly think I "blended") from a very nice bunch of ladies. If you have someplace where you live that does and afternoon tea, I highly recommend it.

Nice story Joanie. There's nothing better than women treating you as just another one of the girls.
