I was running some errands in Joanie mode yesterday, wearing a mauve top, denim skirt, black tights, and short black booties. I remembered that I wanted to check out a car at a local used-car lot. I know the owner, who used to be business partners with another lot, where we bought several calls over the years. Rather than running home and switching into male mode, I decide "what the hell" and went to the lot. At first another sales guy came out, and he was very polite and respectful. I asked a question about price, and he had to go get the main guy. I introduced myself as "Joanie", and he said "you look very familiar". I explained who I was -- he knew me as my male name previously -- and he was very surprised. I apologized for surprising him like that, and he said "it's no big deal". Of course he wanted to sell the car, but he was 100% the same as if I had shown up in drab. I went for a test drive, came back, and put a small deposit on the car. After getting a check from my bank, I'll probably go pick it up in Joanie mode as well, because why the heck not? Of course I explained my legal name was still the one he knew me by. I have been dressing almost every day and loving it. This was just one more thing that I decided "why not" on, and as usual it worked out fine.

That is great Joanie. You are a braver girl than I.

A deal is a deal. Pleased it went well for you. Would love to do that but think my wife would object.

Exactly right! Why not? Your money is just a good as anyone else’s. And now one more person has had a positive and profitable interaction with a trans person.

Joanie - that?s amazing and glad it worked out so well. When I can get my brain to cooperate ?why not? or the closely related ?who cares? attitudes are how I try to make myself think.

Fun! I've been tempted to try test driving a car to see how it goes. You are inspirational :)

Sounds like a great way to spend the day car shopping in girl mode.

That acceptance is fantastic.
I know years ago I went car shopping in the main city closest to me as I?m in a semi regional area and car dealers here do not budge on price whereas then city ones are more flexible. I am not passable but dressed skirt fem top handbag and nice shoes, I found a new car, negotiated a nice deal with the trade I needed and all went well. I had to pick it up in drab as my daughter wanted to come with me to pick up the new car.
