In your opinion. Does one have to wear a wig to be considered a real crossdresser? If you don't wear a wig. Are you just a MIAD? And why do you wear a wig, if you do?

Now I ask this due to the fact that I have not worn a wig in a long time. I keep my natural hair very short. Some might even say that I am bald I keep it so short. By not wearing a wig I am pretty unmistakable when you see me. Not striking, just large head big frame. I feel like I am not hiding behind anything. It's just me being me. When I do or did wear a wig. I would put it on and feel like another person. Like I'm hiding from the world.

So what is it.

Does it really matter what the label is?

For me I dress everyday while at home, I almost never wear a wig, unless I want the more passable look.
Does that make me a Crossdresser or a MIAD. I would say yes to both. If I were to go out. The more passable way would be to wear a wig. The more comfortable way would be without the wig. Do what make you feel most comfortable. Forget the labels and just enjoy life.
Just my thoughts..........

Wear what makes you feel like you.
The die hard wig wearers will tell you need to wear a wig
But just so you know the younger generation do not wear wigs ( most) they are not so set in their ways in how the express themselves.
Cross dressing is the clothing.

I think u explained why perfectly, Natasha. I wear wigs to present as someone I'm not. A woman!:heehee:

I know quite a few trans who present with their own hair. But, all them have long hair with no apparent bald spots.

If I am going outside I'll always wear a wig because I want to present as a woman.
At home I very rarely wear one.

It entirely depends how do you want to present. Crossdresser as a term means dressing as opposite gender, not presenting as opposite gender. So in this regards you are CD wig or not. But don't overthink it, Natasha. If you feel good without wig and it doesn't cause you any issues outside, then don't force yourself and wear it only when you feel like it.
And I'm saying it as someone who when dressed is wearing a wig even at home.

Hi Natasha

For me, long hair has always been one of those deeply feminine attributes I connect with. When I wear a wig, it isn’t about hiding or pretending to be someone else, it’s about allowing an inner part of me to come forward. With a wig, I look and feel more feminine, and that helps quiet the sense of being “a man in a dress.” Instead, I feel much more aligned with my inner female self.

I don’t think wearing a wig determines who is or isn’t a “real” crossdresser. We all express our femininity in different ways, and there’s no single checklist that defines it. Some people feel most authentic with their natural hair, others with wigs, and some switch depending on the moment. What matters is how it makes you feel, not how it looks to someone else.

Your experience of feeling more like yourself without a wig is just as valid as my experience of feeling more like myself with one. That’s the beauty of this journey: it’s personal, individual, and not something that needs to fit anyone’s rules.

That said, I’d actually prefer not to rely on wigs forever. I’m currently growing my hair out so I can eventually style it in a feminine way and express that side of myself more naturally.

No you don't have to wear a wig. I also don't like any of the labels attributed to us as well. I don't wear a wig all the time and I have friends that I can visit and they don't care if I wear a wig or not. What is a real crossdresser? and how do you become one? Just wear what makes you feel good.

If one were to get all dolled-up, everything except the wig...

But, they threw on a black or brown winter hat, then threw on a hood over that, providing a reasonable facsimile & appearance of hair...

Is that a CD'er or a MIAD? :strugglin

But just so you know the younger generation do not wear wigs ( most) they are not so set in their ways in how the express themselves.

I work at a concert venue, and I see all ages of CDers. As Di says, the younger CDers do not wear wigs. The older generation do wear wigs. There is no right or wrong rule with regards to wig wearing. Do what makes you comfortable.
