Looking to buy some mini dresses, I wear a 40 in mens pants so what size in a mini dress do I need.

My guess is probable about a size 20. You can go to www.LaneBryant.com and take a look at their sizing chart.

I wear a size 30 or 31 male pants and fit into a 10 dress just fine with my corset on (27-28). When I was a 36 - 38, I wore a 16 to 18 dress so 20 does sound about right.

I'd say as short as possible - certainly no longer than 12" or 30cm (depending on where in the world you are.
