It almost depends on the shoe in my exp. I wear a 10 in mens usually fit into a 11 in womens shoes the best.

Back when I worked at the sporting goods store, the rule of thumb for sneakers was to go up (for men) or down (for women) 1.5 sizes as a starting point. (I.e. a woman with a size 9 should try a mens 7.5, and a man with a size 7 should try a 8.5) I understand that things have changed in the 10+ years since.

However, this bit of advice should still work. Somebody please correct me if it doesn't. A medium width for women is B. A wide width for women is D. A medium width for men is D. So if you're a 12 medium in mens shoes (like I am) a 12W in womens shoes is a good place to start.

Naturally each shoe will fit slightly differently. But I've had good luck at both Payless (offline) and Lane Bryant (online) using this method.

All of my girly shoes are 1 size bigger than my normal size & they fit really well. The only exception was a pair of heels that I had which turned out to small once.:)

I bought a pair of 2" pumps going by the 2 size rule. They did not fit. when I put them on, I had at least 1/2" between the back of my heel and the shoe. So I went to 1 1/2 rule and still space in back of heel. Went to 1 size large than my male size and the heels fit perfect. so I am a 8 1/2 in male shoe and a 9 1/2 in female heels.

I wear a mens 71/2 - 8 but womens shoes are about 2 sizes larger. I wear a 91/2 womens and they fit perfect.

I wear 10 -11 in men's but still get away with 11 in women's in most cases,so Idon't think that the notion of women's shoes running 2 sizes bigger than men's necesarily holds true.As a matter of fact I've seen some women's shoes size 10 1/2 that I thought I could wear if they were wide width.

The closest match to a size 12 mens will be a size 13w or a 14w. You will not know until you try the shoe on. And womens shoes tend to not have half sizes after 9 or 10.

Remember, everyone has a very different foot. So what works for one might not work for you. You will need to try on different pairs to find a shoe that really fits. Also shoes of different styles tend to fit different. You might need a differnt size in flats compaired to 4 inch heels, or if a shoe is cut wide compared to a narrow cut shoe.

Some time ago I found this web site. It worked for me! When all else fails print the foot guide.

Aloha,
Amazing! All these differences even when two of us girls have the same men's size! Me, I'm a 71/2M as a male and depending on the shoe, I can wear from a 7 1/2 W women's (tried my wife's italian shoes) to a 8 1/2M, which is my 4" heels, open toed strap back (Chinese Laundry). personally, I don't care for that long toe style, looks a little like femme elf shoes to me! :cheeky:

I'm the same as you ... 12 men's, 13 women's. These things are pretty tough to find in our size ... well, without spending tons of $$ anyway. Good luck!

HI Darcy Ann, I dunno really as I wear the same size in men's and womens. 9. All my sisters hate me for that(LOL). 9W is more comfortable but I wear a 9M when I dance as otherwise they slide a little and put holes in my stockings. Sometimes tighter is better, sometimes not. As one gal sai, it depends on the shoe style, manufacturer, etc. It's best to try them on first, I guess. Take care, Ericka

I find that my lady's shoes are generally two sizes larger and need to be in medium or wide width.

Women's shoes don't appear to have standardized sizing at all. If a man wears a 10 1/2 wide, he can go into just about any store, pick up any pair of men's shoes in that size and it will fit reasonably well. Women's shoes seem to be another matter.

I wear a 10 1/2W or 11 mens shoe and I have women's 11, 11w, 12, and 10 1/2WW shoes that fit and some in the same sizes that don't. A few weeks ago, I tried on a pair of brand new quarter strap heels at Payless in a reglar 10 and they fit perfectly. I seldom buy women's shoes anymore without trying them on unless they are super discounted. If they don't fit, usually one of my TG sisters can wear them.

A lot of the problem with sizing in women's clothing is that women LOVE to try things on in the store and men don't. If a woman finds something she likes that fits and is in a size smaller than what she thinks she normally wears, she is usually pleased enough to buy it. Men, on the other hand are more likely to pick something off the rack or shelf with the size tag for their size and take it directly to the checkout.

So to answer your question, buying women's clothing without trying it on is always going to be a crap shoot! Now if I could just get FashionBug to regularly stock shoes in 11 and 11 wide, I'd be in heaven.

I'm licky to be a size 8 mens, and usually a 10 fem is perfect... especially in sandals or mules. But I tried on a cute pair of Hush Puppies flat sandals in a 9 yesterday, and they fit perfectly. But I also bought a basic black pump, 3" heel, a while back in a size 10, and they were too small. So now I have to go 10.5 or 11 for my closed-toe pumps. Who knew!

I'm fortunate that I live by San Diego. The Navy has a sizable fleet here so the gunboats below my ankles fit right in! Actually I'm a 14 - 15 depending on the shoe or boot.

seems a bit complicated over there!!!

Here in the UK we don't need to go up (or down) shoe size but I agree that different shoes 'size' differently eg I recently bought some boots and had to buy the size down from my normal UK 10 as they were huge!!!

In the UK it is size for size however a womans shoe is usually not so wide fit as a mans so may need to go one size up I take a size8 in either drab or en-fem.
Thing is here try getting anything above a 7 in ladies size takes some tracking down.

First up, there is a difference in Aust, USA, and European sizings which can create confusion.

My femme shoes are women's size 11 compared to my men's size 9. This creates a problem for me as most ladies shoes in stores only go up to size 10 which is considered large for women. Fortunately, Target have started selling size 11 womens shoes, but they are not of high quality and are of unusual design. Certainly not the strappy heels I'd like to have from a specialist shoe store!

Still, at least I can get some heels that fit!
