Please help with research into TS !

HI everyone.

Im here to ask for your help. I am an occupational therapy student currently in my second year of my degree. I have just startting thinking about my discertation, which has to be completed my next April. My research has t be directly linked to health services and particularly occupational therapy.

I really would like to incorporate my research with something linked to gender dysphoria (TS not cd at this point). My problem is finding the kink with Occupational therapy (OT). Many Ot's work in the mental health section, with client suffereing depression, anxiety etc, so i didnt know about going down that road.

I have put the suggestion to my tutors and they are very open to my 'juicy' topic idea...lol...i obviously have a personal interest in this area, which could be seen as a positive or negative.

But i would like your thoughts and ideas.....Do you know of any other research that has been done...i mean published professional stuff....not merely someones opinion.


If you think you wouild be happy to be my participants, please let me know, it would be just a simple confidential, annonymous questionaire based on maybe attitudes within the NHS ....etc.....

Any ideas would be gratefully received.....

Over hear in US are OT people work with art alot. They like us to paint and make things that represents what are illness means to us or what are feelings look like to us or just create things about how we feel today. We then will talk about it.
Maybe you could study how TS use art to help them to deal with being TS.
Maybe study TS art changes as they change from Cd'ing to TS.
Just a few Ideas.

Yes occupational therapy is the same here in Uk...we use other things but art is one of many....

It is something i will consider, but i would need to find ts's who have had contact with Ot and OT services in order to interview them.

Hiya Cheery (almost spelt Cherry :eek:).

Interesting topic you've chosen for your disertion! You're quite right about linking gender dysphoria with occupational therapy - could be a tough one!

I think you're in for a lot of research! For online research, I guess you'd have to do queries combining either/any of, 'gender dysphoria' and it's derivitives, 'occupational therapy' and it's derivitives, and so forth. I'd normally restrict the search criteria to '.edu' domains as academic tutors tend to give more credance to educational institution resources!

I notice you're in the UK and mentioned the NHS which I know nothing of, so I probably can't offer any opinions on that perspective. As for me, I identify as a transgender (or getting that way!), so if you're seeking actual transsexual (or more accurately - gender dysphoria) responses, I'm not really the person to ask.

I hope you're able to find enough data to undertake your disertion Cheery.
