Cute Nails

A number of times when I've been out, I've seen girls with real cute nails that have tiny hearts or stars "painted" on them. I think it's just adorable, and want to know how it's done.

There must be a transparent film that goes over the nail, or something similar. Painting each one would be just too difficult (as if the rest of the makeup isn't time consuming enough!).

Any ideas?

My wife has had some decals placed on her nails. Normally, though, our nail salon paints them on by hand (simple patterns, etc).

On another note, however, I would like to mention my fascination with Del Sol's color changing nail polish (changes color in the sun).

Some of the nail salon's around here do airbrushing. Can get expensive, but the results are very impressive.

Yes - Dutchgal is correct, they usually are decals that are put on before the top coat goes on. My nail tech sometimes handpaints small designs on my nails, so it can be done that way too :)
