I was wondering how many people have had makeovers and roughfully how much it as for you. Ive been experimenting with makeup but havent gotten the right look yet and was thinking of maybe getting a makeover done so I can find out what works best for me makeup wise. What do you think?
Also, I was if there has been any threads about wear everybody's from as Ive been thinking of possibly moving to Idaho and was wondering how it is for crossdressers and the like.
Thanks in advance.

I've had a couple and I say go for it, might be a little pricey, but worth it. Experience the magic of make up by a professional, you'll be surprised just how much you'll learn.

I had a reaction to foundation , so I went to AVEDA who sells natural products. The lady didn't care whether I was male or female as long as I knew I was expected to buy SOME makeup (which I was). Including the tip I left it was worth it to:
A) Have a woman spend an hour and a half doing my makeup
(or have a woman, with me dressed, in my presence for that long and not
blink an eye or act like I'm weird)
B) Watching a pro apply makeup and making suggestions
C) Have a great experience to share (including pics)

I had a reaction to foundation
I had one once my self, felt like it was burning my face, tosed it out now I just use a powder.
I have had to makes over done, it's worth doing and fun and you learn a trick or two, but now I must say I like how I do it better than some one else.

I'm not really confident with my makeup skills. I've had my makeup done professionally twice. It was great fun for all concerned. It was great to be fussed over by an attractive young lady and she enjoyed the challenge. The experience was great at the salon and when I left I looked great.

I've had one done so far. It cost $100 and she took just over an hour to apply and explain what she had done. I've check-out having it done later this year at the MAC store in the mall. They charge $100 for a 90 minute application and instruction.
Even if you only pick up on one new item to use or change, it's worth it. Each time I look at a tutorial, or buy a DVD I learn a new trick. Good Luck!
I had my initial makeover done at a Merle Norman Boutique. The makeover itself was free, but I was expected to purchase some of the items that she recommended. I ended up spending about $90. It was money well spent. A girl can spend much more than that buying and pitching makeup that just doesn't work until she finds the right stuff.

I have had about 8 make overs. I save my pennies and go when ever I can. She does a great job and makes me feel special. I would say go for it to all xdressers.

If I were to do this, I would go to someone who specializes in doing makeup for cd's. Every time I have had my makeup done by a GG I have been less than satisfied. I leave thinking, pfffft, I can do better than that.
It may be because of my fair Irish complexion and redish skin tones. Readheads are difficult to work with when it comes to makeup. It has been an expensive venture for me to get a look that is satisfactory to me.

Try a makeover at an Estee Lauder counter, Nigella went for one there and was very pleased with the results so much so she now uses their products.

I have tried to apply makeup but I am just not very good at it. So, whenever I go out dressed, I go to a salon and have one of the cosmeticians do my makeup and nail polish. I have usually been very pleased with the results, and it only costs about $25 - 30. Sometimes they really fuss over me and I feel totally pampered. It is a very nice feeling, and I enjoy it immensely.

Hi Tiffany,
You've got a fabulous place right there in Denver, Studio Lights. There on South Broadway. They specialize in CD's check 'em out. Also try any MAC store or counter. They haven't charged me for a makeover yet. I've purchased some of the products that were used. They did a fabulous job.
What are you wanting for get out there and get some expert help!

Hi Tiffany:
I've had a number of makeovers done and have learned quite a bit; I try to go for a different look each time so I can experiment on my mine. I'm constantly amazed by the results!
They can be expensive; just make sure that whoever you choose to do your makeover is supportive and discreet.
You'll love it!
Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions
Hugs,
Heather

I have to say that most of yoou are getting the shaft if your paying for any makeovers. Its yet another reason to use department store cosmetics as compared to drug or walmart makeup.
Around this entire region of the south east yu can walk into any department store walk over to the cosmetic counter, and inquire on makeup, and its would be rare if that counter girl did not offer for you to jump up in the chair and let her do you up......They gladly do it, as it opens up potential for sales and most are paid by commision. They are not aloowed to charge for instruction but most all will tell you how and what to do, and explain as they apply the various products. They oftem make up a list of what was used so you know the next time, so if you only wind up buying a single container of foundation or eyeshadow or liner, they still make a profit, and the avenue is open for future sales. Those cosmetic salesgirls can and are some great folks to get to know. I can go into one or two places around here and if they are not busy get them to make me up wihout buying....My wife and I both buy all oour cosmetics from these places so we are repeat customers, and they are happy to help as it leads to repeat sales. I often as does the wife get lots free stuff when their product lines changes.... I canapply makeup just fine, but some of the makeup girls have that special artist touch that makes abig difference for special outings, and thats when I usually see if they can do me up.....We use Estee Lauder and Clinque for the mst part, and while say the foundation and other items may be a bit more pricey than a discount or drug store brand, it doe snot take as much product to attain desired results and a littl egoes a long ways, and coupled with a person to show yu the ropes and help you out, that extra bit of $$ is minor. Odds are the counter girl at the drug store or Wally world looks like a two bit ho' with her makeup or she does not wear any anyhow, and would not remember you if you were in the checkout line an hour prior. Department store cosmetics are hard to beat.

Any of you girls know of a good CD-friendly makeover place in Atlanta? I'm not quite ready to saunter up to the Clinique counter... though I'd love to! And I assume you would go en femme?!?

Have never been there but the MAC at the Perimeter Mall north of Atlanta is in a seperate store, not in a dept store, and can do makeovers in a private area. Have talked to them on the phone and its no big deal for them. They told me on the phone that I could show up en femme but could not change clothes in their private area, which is reasonable.
Another idea--Merle Norman is great for privacy. I have had three makeovers at them, always calling ahead, of course, to line things up.

I actually went to Phoebe Cross's Makeover service but she is no longer in buisness. But here is a link and I know girls that have used Arah and were very happy (plus as you will see she sells makeup and dresses. I bought my formal gown for SCC from her and got tons of compliments on it. And it only cost like $ 60.00 for the dress)
Nope...to answer that one question you can go in guy mode. Matter of fact her hubby is a CD so she is very kewl with us.
I will shut up now and give ya da linky....

Phoebe out of business? I have never been but have called there recently, no answer. Her website has been update, so do we know she has closed?

I have had well over 30 makeovers, and I like to go to a regular salon to get them. I love being pampered and fussed over, half the experience is the whole ambiance and interaction for me :)
I have to say that most of yoou are getting the shaft if your paying for any makeovers. Really?? Well, that is your opinion, I myself think it is worth it to pay a professional for their time and expertise. I guess anyone that pays a mechanic to fix their car or a plumber is also "getting the shaft"?

Well...I only know no one can contact her and she has not been heard from. Several girls here in Atlanta have tried to reach her with no luck. She moved and at that point we heard nothing else from her. I hope she is ok, I really owe her for what she did for me.
Gave me advice on makeup, wigs, cloths, etc. But she also told me some pitfalls and things to watch out for if I was going to be a Tgirl. She (Phoebe) is a very nice lady.

I have had several. The ones from places that cater to CD have ranged from awful to excellent. The price paid for the service was in no way a reflection of the outcome. For example, the most expensive was one that I received in Philly. It was also the first and the worst. I've had pretty good ones and excellent ones in Reno, Long Island, and San Jose.
I have received good makeovers to fabulous makeovers at the makeup counters in Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom’s, etc from Lancôme, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Nars, Bobbi Brown, and others. The only bad department store makeover I had was from Mac, but I think it was the foundation she applied over mine.
The department store makeovers are good, but you have to be prepared for them to either remove your foundation, or to cover up your existing makeup with more foundation. Of course, you also have to know how to camoflage the...umm... unfeminine coloration of your face. I ask that they do a combination. I go out to the makeover with very light makeup and only let them remove my eye makeup. That works pretty well.
Right now, my favorite place is a small makeup shop that sells Jane Iredale, Illuminare, Bare Escentuals, and other like brands. The lady who owns that shop is buying a spa, so looking forward to my first spa day!
Warm regards,
Christina Nicole

Yes its my opinion. In regards to a make over, if yur gonna go paya someone $00 or whatever to apply makeup and then purchase makeup your beyonbd help unless you jusyt like to spend money. I can get a total makeover at any department store, anytime for free and they will spend just as much time showing you the ins and outs in the hopes that you become one of their customers. Plain and simple its FREE.....and results are the same as what one pays money to have done....I call that type of behavior naieve' but then again that only my opinion.
To whoever asked about a place in Atlanta, go to Dillards in the perimeter Mall at thre Estee Lauder cosmetic counter. Look for a cosmetic girl named Joanne.....she will do you right in terms of what will best suit yuor complexion and eye and hair color. She is more than TG friendly, and no, yu do not have to go en femme, but IMNSHO your gonna get some weird looks getting made up and wearing boys things.......but hey, Hotlanta is very TG friendly. If you feel gun shy just tellher and she will reposition the chair so no other customers etc can make eye contact with you. Sigma Epsilon often gets lots of good reports from Estee Lauder clerk Joanne at Dillards there in Atlanta and I have been there myself dressed, without a problem.....You really shoul dbe somewhat en femme for best results until you really know what yur looking for in regards to effects thats possible

I think it is incredibly insulting to state that the girls here who like to get makeovers in a salon and pay for them are "beyond hope", "naieve" and "getting the shaft" - especially since it seems to be something you have not done yet? So I don't know how you can state that one is better than the other - oh well, we all have our opinions I guess :)
But, I will say this for all the girls here who have not decided - getting a makeover in a salon, being surrounded by beauty professionals whose job is to make you look as good as you can, while sharing girl talk and beauty advice - in a safe, secure, comfortable and professional environment - is just one of the most feminine and wonderful things you can ever do for yourself. Another good reason for a beauty salon is the other services that they offer either before or during the makeover - nails, waxing and hair/wig styling :)

Thirty makeovers! Talk about a veteran of the cosmetic brushs. You really point out what, for me, is one of the big attractions--being pampered, fussed over and the interaction. I have enjoyed getting to know the three different women who did my makeovers, one is very supportive and wants me to come back, which I will.

...well alrighty then....
I still say going to a makeover artist...paying for the makeover, getting advise and often even having them dress you up is well worth the money. Esp for a new girl.
By the way, do you go out in Atlanta Kathly?...trying to figure out if I know ya. :p

I go everywhere dressed........I do get to Atlanta on occasion, but not as much as I used to. I used to belong to Sigma Epsilon (Tri Ess) back in the mid to late 90's but have not been at one of their meetings in years and years, probably about 96 or so. I live in Alabama, but since i stay en femme 24/7 I do not have a need to go to far away places where folks do not know me.
Your name and pic is not familiar, but then it could be if your someone I may have known through Tri Ess back years ago...I just do not recall it though. I know a ot of sisters in Atlanta arrea though, none of which I have seen post on this or any other forums.

Hi,. I might be naive about the difficulty of this..as i am a GG, but couldnt you ring a big home based/ party plan beauty company like Avon and ask if they have any consultants who would like to do a private makeover and explain that you are a CD, so theres no surprises for the consultant. That way you get a free makeover and can buy the products privately. You could even do a group thing if you could find a sympathetic consultant. I know i would have done it when i was selling nutrimetics about 20 years ago.
