View Full Version : Always Wanting The Shoes I Can't Get!

Just to "celebrate" this being my 100th post, I've chosen a new signature. For some of you, I'm sure it's close to your sentiments as well!

Has anyone noticed how it's easy to find shoes all the way up to size 14 or even larger in some styles, but just about impossible in others? For instance, we could all probably find a hundred sites to get pumps like this (http://www.mayashoes.com/Seduce-420.JPEG) or platform sandals like this (http://www.mayashoes.com/241-1.JPEG) in the larger sizes, but with most cork wedges and wooden platforms, it's a whole different ballgame. If you've got a fancy for those like I do, wouldn't it make your day to find this (http://www.heelsforyou.com/Images/Tonys_Shoes_V13/W-513-1.jpg) one or this (http://www.heelsforyou.com/Images/Tonys_Vol17/w-507-1.JPG) one in those sizes, or maybe even some gorgeous sexy wooden mules, like these (http://www.heelsforyou.com/Images/Tonys_Shoes_V13/Candy-2.jpg)? I'm not sure if those are real cork or wooden bases or they're just faux finishes wrapped around the same material those other platforms are made of, but I'd grab up every color just the same! It always breaks my heart when shoes like that only come up to size 10 or something, which they usually do!

I wonder if it's because some companies try to capture the CD as well as the GG market, but others don't. Then again, I'm sure if the companies that make cork wedges, wooden platforms, espadrilles, and what have you, thought they could sell enough of them in size 14 or something, they'd be in every store and on every website.

Don't get me wrong, I love the high heel selection we already have, but maybe I've just seen so many GGs wearing those cork and wood styles lately that I want them myself. I'm really surprised there isn't more of a demand for those among CDs. If nothing else, the cork wedges would be a great way for new CDs to learn how to walk in high heels before they "graduate" to stillettos! They're wider and a lot easier to keep your balance, or at least I'd think so.

I didn't think about it until just now, but some of the same companies that sell size 14 pumps and platforms also have the other styles I mentioned, but in smaller sizes. They already know there's a big enough market for the ones they carry in the larger sizes. Maybe if we could "rally" up enough demand for the other kinds, they'd start offering those too, or at least carry one kind, see how it sells, and go from there.

Do I have any fellow "corkie," "woodie," or "espie" wedge fans out there that would like those as much as I would? I guess you could say I'd like to go "Over The Wedge," as it were! Hey, that'd be a good spoof on the new movie, wouldn't it?:D

Good point! I too would like a pair of espadrilles in size 13. I have a pair of 11s, but they are just too tight, despite my amazingly narrow feet. I am at a point where I would rather have 2" heels than 3-4 ", and this can be problematic in a 13.

My guess is that the shoe manufacturers operate on their misconception of crossdressers as all being fetish-type (as in Rocky Horror). Larger sizes generally mean taller people. Taller GGs prefer not to appear taller, hence taller GGs tend not to prefer heels. These generalizations might help explain the phenomenon you observed.

I totally agree with the above statement. I also believe that a shoe store's size selection has less to do with catering to any particular group of people (such as crossdressers) than it does with the rules of supply and demand. Let's face it, the vast majority of people who purchase women's shoes are indeed women. That means that, on average, the demand for shoes in size 10 and smaller is likely to be the highest. And most shoe stores are going to carry what sells, not what sits on the shelf.

I hate this dilema, too. Sorry for playing devil's advocate here, but I believe what I said speaks to very heart (or should I say "sole"?) of the problem.

Guess I should count my blessings that I wear a size 9 1/2 womens heels and I'm only 5' 9" tall. LOL

If its any sort of consolation, in South Africa womens shoes only go up to a size 8 and thats it! I am fortunate in being able to just squeeze into them (although it is style dependant), but I do feel sorry for any woman who has feet which do not conform to the upper limit in their shoe selection. Anything outside of it is an import. Don't even try for a large size pump or plat over here cos it doesnt exist unless you bring it in yourself. The other peculiarity is that even girls school shoes have also stopped at an 8, even though girls (and women) are much taller and often dont have small feet like they did in 19whatever when the powers that be in the industry decided to stop at an 8 for women. Tis a sad state of affairs altogether.

I also wear a size 11 1/2 or 12 so I need a 13 1/2 in woman's shoes unless I go with an open toe. Does anyone know of local or chain shoe stores that carry larger sized woman's shoes?

As for Chain Shoe Stores with a nice selection of large size shoes, try Payless Shoes. They really do have a very nice selection of large size shoes, it's just that many of their stores do not carry the full selection.

I know several that don't and one store in Tulsa, Ok that has an amazingly large collection of larger sized shoes.

I usually buy from Zappos.com on the web - they have a great return policy.

I say that nearly everytime I walk by a DSW shoe warehouse

Any of you who wear a large and/or wide width shoe might find something of interest at www.womenshoes.com...check it out if you haven't already.

Apparently some shoe makers have CDers in mind. On LifeStride.com where you register, they ask something like "Do you mainly purchase Women's shoes or Men's Shoes?"

I like to browse around http://www.sexyshoes.com/ because they do have a nice selection and I suspect (cant be sure because our sizing is different) they do keep quite a few larger sizes in stock. I know I particularly like http://www.sexyshoes.com/p6745.html and
http://www.sexyshoes.com/p8221.html
and quite a few others too.

Yes, I double checked. WomenShoesPlus.com The W,S&P are all caps, but usually it doesn't matter. You might also try googling this name...I hope you can find this website. It is kind of fun just browsing. Good luck

That 6745 is a gorgeous style, all right! A sexy platform wedge, with ankle straps and multi-colored straps in front. It only comes up to a size 10, though, even on a site that offers up to 14 in a lot of the pumps and stilleto platforms - proves the point of the thread perfectly!:D

The reason that other link (www.womenshoes.com) didn't work the first time is because "...check" was at the end of the URL somehow. I didn't look through the whole thing yet, but what I've seen on it so far is no higher than size 10.
