Hi Rei,
Start with the basics, bras, panties, hose, skirts and blouses.

Hi Rei,
When buying, try to keep the items simple and matching. Neutrals for a base are a good start, ie. black skirt and shoes, then if you see a coloured top you like, it will match to the skirt and shoes. If you buy too many things that are too colourful or very patterned for example they will be hard to match together. Over time as your collection growws this will not be too much of a worry but when you only have a few pieces it will make dressing difficult.
As for shoes, add a full size to 2 full sizes to your mens size. It really depends on the shoe, a sandle only 1 size should do, a closed shoe or boot, will likely need 2 sizes due to your arch and width.
For hose read the back of the package, not all are made the same. the more lycra the more stretch and more forgiving and less likely to run.
If you are tall, blouses will be difficult if you want a full sleeve, look for tall girl stores, if you are average you should be fine. Unless you are small, stay away from petite.
Dresses are usually a safe bet and will fit most of us unles it is very fitted and lined.
Hair and makeup, well that's personal. If you want to fit in, less is more. If you want to be noticed, heavy eyes and bright lips will do the trick. More hair will also get you noticed, a subdued cut will allow you to blend in.
What I do is look through catalogues and watch what women wear at the mall and base my look on these observations.
Hope this helps a little.

What Foxy Lady said is great, Rei. You can wear anything with black.

Before people "come out of the closet" they tend to spend many years in it, wearing this and that from whatever source they could get it from. People very rarely wake up one morning and think...."Hmm, I never did this before so I will ask for advice how to start on a crossdressers forum." Unless they have ulterior motives for the question.
Are you saying you never dressed up ever?
Are you saying you dressed up for years but want to go out in public?
Your question needs some more more detail about yourself to get the most useful answers.

I agree with Julie. Would also be nice to know your age and little about you, are you alone, ina relationship etc. Hard to help when ya dont know really anything about a person. General questions get general answers

Hi Rei, All the girls are right about what should be bought first. Have you dressed before(even alittle) or is this the very first time? Your build(height and weight are very important here). You have friends here so be honest hon, we can help you!!!!

Firstly measure yourself and work out what that translates to in women's clothing sizes. Then go Ebay hunting until something takes your fancy. There are no rules. If you want shoes, get shoes. If you are mad about skirts then get skirts. But don't be too disappointed if nothing fits. It takes trial and error and luck.

Start with shoes and walk out of there proud; there is nothing wrong with being a CD.
