Just wondering about false nails and which type I'd prefer (Gels, Arcylic) when I had the thought! What shape would be better? As in 'square tips' or 'rounded tips'? What are your preferences?
I think I would like the rounded tip shape as they are bascially what my natural nails are like, but then again I wouldn't mind trying the square shaped nails since it'd be something new for me!

Hi Clare,
Guess that I would normally want 'round tips' (the way I voted and, like you say, the norm of my finger nails), but then again I might also try 'square tips'. Who knows, might become 'attached' to them.

I would have actually have voted "sqoval" (square with rounded corners), which is overwhelmingly the way most women have their nails done in salons, at least by my observations. That shape is also the strongest too.....
Here are two pix, the first is how my nail tech has my nails now, fiberglass overlays...the second is from last year with permanent French pink and white gels - you can see the shape I mean here.....

Squoval (I'll take Dana's word that this is how to spell it) for me too.
I keep mine more squared off then Dana's. and only round the very corners.
I have short hands tho.. so should do rounded or oval tips to give the illusion of longer fingers and more slender hands. But I like these and they're my hands. :D

ps. Love the nail art Dana!

rounded are the best for me ..
that way i can use them to scoop up little tiny gems when im setting stones and stuff.
square just looks odd on me. and i need my nails cause my hands are weird. :(

as a friend of mine put it... my fingers are sortof like little sausages... so after playing with shapes, sqoval (really more square than rounded) makes my fingers look that much better. with the rounded nails, my slimmer fingers look good, but my sausage-like fingers look like they have little eggs on the tips.

I voted for rounded. Mine are natural. I am letting them grow. I have attached a pic from about 2 weeks ago.

Hi DanaJ. Your nails look wonderful. Just two questions. 1, I've only ever had my nails done professionally once, by a mobile nail technician who came to my home. What kind of reaction did/do you get when walking into a salon?
And 2, do you keep you nails on full-time, and are you quite open about them, and if so what kind of reaction do you get from the public? I use false glue on nails quite a lot, but I do tend to be overly aware of them and thus hide my hands when out in public (down to the confidence thing I guess).
Many thanks in advance.

Jenni, well first, I carefully choose my nail salon/tech, as described in the Beauty Club thread on "How to choose a good nailtech/salon". That is, first, the nail tech has to be personable and friendly, be technically proficent and most importantly - have a current license. Second, I like privacy, so I like a place where people are not lined up like an assembly line. My current nail tech has a small nail room, but from time to time other beauty professionals (hairdressers, massage therapists, etc) stop in to chat - they have all been positive, and really do not give it a thought. Many times they will suggest a color :) When I leave, I usually pass various other customers, but I do not flaunt my new nails to them, but I don't hide them either. The receptionist (a real sweetie) usually stops me so she can see them anyway :)
Yes, my nails are permanent (that is, longer, shaped and I ussed to have gels, now trying fibergalss overlays), I keep them full-time, but I do not keep them polished full-time. I usually only have them polished overnight, or through the weekend or during time off from work.
