Is there anyone that can tell me or refer me to a site that will shed some light on measuring myself from head to toe. I would like to buy my fem clothes without trying them on. So I need a better idea for all the womans sizes out there. I am 6'3" and 235lbs. I also wear a size 13 shoe. I guess I should stay out of the petite areas.

Dear Sandygal,

Most of the cataloges and clothes websites have sizing charts that will give you a pretty good idea of what size you are.
If you can get someone to help you with the measuring tape you will get a more acurate measure. If not, just try and keep the tape (get a cloth one, not a carpenter's tape) level and not too tight. Write down all the measuements and figure your size from the chart.
"Petite" sizes are for short girls (not you), "Misses" are for normal to tall sizes, and "Womens" are for more mature figures (read portly). So the same size in each of these catagories will be different. Sometimes petites are numbered with odd numbers (3,5,7,etc.) and misses and womens are even numbers (10,12,14, etc).
Remember you can alter a dress by making parts of it (like the waist or hips) smaller, but you can't alter it to make it bigger, so use your largest measurement when you are looking at the chart.
You are still going to have to try them on though. You will make mistakes in the beginning. No problem, just send them or take them back. GGs do it all the time. If you don't remove the tags and keep the sales slip, this will be no problem.
I hope this has been of some help to you, dear. It is a daunting task at first and will never go away completely as every manufacturer has slightly different sizing. That's why we try them on at the store before we buy. It's also helpful to see what YOU look like in a certain style before you buy. What looks good on a model or manikin may look perfectly dreadful on us. Keep trying and you will get it eventually. Remember, you are trying to learn things in a short time that GGs have a lifetime to assimilate. If you have daughters, you will have seen them make rediculous mistakes as they grow and learn. We all have to do it.

Lovies,
Stephenie

Hi Sandy

I'm a big girl too, heaver than you, I tend to buy by inches, over ladies actual sizes. Ie I can fit comfortable in a certain makes size, then buy another makers clothes in the same size, and it doesn't fit! it so frustrating.

I now buy by looking at the bust and waist size, over the dress size, it saves a lot of pain, and certainly is easier on Ebay, as most sellers list a bust, and waist measurment, and if not you can always ask!

I've found this really works for me better than buying a set size, ie I've seen variation of 4 or five sizes, yet all have the same bust dimentions. So hence find something that fits you well, measure it, and look for stuff in those dimentions, over saying im a X.

hope this helps
