It's really tough to find the right size without going in for a fitting. All I did was try my wife's. It was too tight so I bought a size larger. That was a bit to small and the cups were too small for my breast enhancers. So I ordered one size larger and one cup larger and voila! Now I know my size.
I bought very inexpensive bras to try for size. Now that I know the size I think I might go for something a little more expensive and not worry.
But the fact is, even GGs have a hard time finding a bra that fits. There is just nothing exact about it. It's sort of like buying shoes. Just because it is a size 10 doesn't mean it's going to feel right. And, for a bra, just because it's a 38D, doesn't mean it's going to feel right. I really believe that you just have to find one that feels right (either by trial and error - like me - or by getting a fitting done).
And don't despair. There is a bra out there for everyone.

I have a 36c and it fits me almost perfectly, but I've wondered if something else might fit better. I've searched before and haven't found much on how to do it yourself, but just before posting this I did another search and found this! looks like fun :) I'm going to do it later tonite :p

I did the same as Danielle. And my wife's were a tad small so I went for the next size (bought as Target for $9.00 - well worthy it). Fit but a little uncomfortable, so tried the next and is much better. Now I need to get beast forms ;-} .
