I am posting this here because I believe it is more pertinent to us TG's and TS's.

A year ago I lost my GP and after about 6 months was able to another one. Now the original guy knew of my TG/TS (Another doc, a pdoc to be exact outed me to him.). Anyway he was cool with it and supportive.

The new GP was of course an unknown quantity. She is a very nice lady and very competent. Anyway today was the bi monthly meds review for the antidepressants and we talked of course. I have been pretty low of late and well, I let it slip that I was transwhatever. She didnt seem phased by it at all. The first thing she commented was that in her own country, we are considered as very special people. (She's Asian but I dont know where exactly). Then she openly admitted she knew very little about it. Apparently it is glossed over in just about every medical school and even in the psych areas unless they specifically pursue gender training.

So anyway, she started asking the questions and of course I had to answer.

I am curious how many others have run into this same situation. (Quite frankly I am glad she asked rather than try to fake it.)

:hugs:

A lot of folks who should know better are very ignorant concerning CD issues.

For example--, the usually sensible and to the point DR LAURA (Slesinger).

Anyone who askes her about a CD "Problem" sets her off and she says she hasn't time to discuss problems related to "Homosexuality" and that a radio show is not meant to get into deep psychological problems that require therapy.

This tells ME that she is no better educated about CD than the average person on the street.

when i first told my gp, he said that i probably knew more about it than he did.
but since then i have noticed that he has done some reading specifically to try to help me.
he is the best doc that ive ever been to .. its made the whole process a lot easier, as over here you have to go through your GP to see any of the specialists.

but then there are some who are less than willing.
i went to see the psych thats attached to the school i attend, basically just to introduce myself and hopefully he might have some info about what i needed to do in regards to the school.
he didnt no nuffin.
the only thing that he kept on bringing up was that if the other students teased me, thats not right and its not legal and i should report it right away .. cause that would be truly devastating for me.
:raisedeyebrow:
i think this was the only thing that he had to bring to the conversation .. i kept telling him it wasnt a concern and he still kept bringing it up.
finally i spelled it out that ive been through enough pain in my life that people calling me names wont hurt me the slightest amount in comparison. :D
i still dont know that he understood. but oh well.

and then there was the pshrink that i love to tell people about, the guy who thought all TS's were just homosexual, no matter what.
like any crowd... you get good ones ... and you get bad ones ...
