Good spots in LA for a first outing?

I'm meeting a CD friend next month while I'm in Los Angeles and since she really hasn't been out in public before, I wondered if anyone had suggestions of t-friendly locales?

I remember doing an Internet search about places, and found many in LA, a dearth in SJ. Perhaps try that?
