the CD friendly stores are the ones that accept the green pieces of paper called money. Really. That's true most anywhere. You have money, they want to part you from it.

Many here have reported trying clothes on in many different stores, from places like Fashion Bug or Lane Bryant to the ritzy department stores.

Enjoy your shopping.

I want to echo Veronica's comments that you can shop in NYC with high expectations that you will be treated well. I have done so on many times without difficulty. I always dress in femme for NYC shopping and I always try on what I intend to buy. I have never been refused a dressing room.

Even though I don't pass particularly well (but I do work hard to blend well and I try to create a classy femme image) my experience in being out shopping in NYC dressed as a woman is that people and sales assistants don’t seem fearful or alarmed with cross dressed men. Quite the opposite. They seem to be just fine with it and appear to know exactly what to do, treat you as you present yourself.

Other shoppers generally just go on about their business without comment or rude objection. Sales people, men and women, have always treated me as the lady that I am presenting to the public. They have always been helpful and respectful. I have never ever experienced a bad scene or rudeness.

I have shopped at the high end stores on 5th avenue, boutiques in Manhattan, and even big box discount stores in the outer suburbs. I have been alone and with my wife.

If you are inclined to dress appropriately for shopping (no 6" heels, mini shirts, trashy looking clothes), I think that you will find NYC an idea place to shop, dine and be entertained. New Yorkers have seen it all and if you go about your shopping with poise and proper attire, you should be very well received.

So, relax, have fun, and don't forget to smile! :D

Yep, I went shopping in manhattan several times, in drab, and bought several underwear, nighties, skirts and tops. I even tried on a skirt that wasn't with an elastic band so it had better fit me well and nobody reacted. I did the same trying high heel shoes at a "Payless shoe store". What interests the shops keepers is the money you are going to pay them in the end...

Note that I had the same feeling of freedom in the area of Montreal in the Quebec Province of Canada.

I also shop in Brussels where I often have to travel.

A contrario, I'm far less confident shopping in my own country, France. Perhaps it is the fear of being too near home...

I always have a lot of fun when shopping in NYC. Fifth Ave is the best place to shop. That goes without saying! Of course, Saks treats you best, but you pay for it. On the other hand, you really are not under any obligation to buy no matter if you try on just a $100 worth of clothes or $10,000 worth. But the more expensive ones are much more fun and you get much more personal service. Every girl should be so well treated at least once.
Warm regards,
Christina Nicole

New York City is THE BIG CITY - you have to really work at standing out, I mean REALLY work at it. They ain't even goning to blink at you, you be the fifth guy they've seen in there that day, and its not even noon yet.
