i was reading on a website that a lot of TS have unique brains and tend to be very intelligent and may be skipped ahead in school due to such high absorbtion of knowledge.do any of you TS out there feel you have high amounts of knowledge or a wide variety or info on lots of differen't things?
i personally have lots of knowledge about automotive things, vitamins, health , foods, electronics, and can do very good spelling.what are your high interests and knowledges?
sometimes we have the knowledge ,but just don't care to show it but we know it's there. figured it'd be an intersting thread.

Well, my background is in physics, and I consider myself rather intelligent.
However, you aren't going to get anywhere near a representative sample here, and I doubt anyone is going to claim to be un-intelligent, so this is not going to get you anything close to a scientific study.

Of course it's obvious.
Why I myself invented the wheel,
stole fire from the Gods, and
invented the "Wonderbra".
And that was just before breakfast!

Before I post this, I want to make it clear that I normally would never post this under normal circumstances but due to the nature of this thread and the question being asked, I will. I personally consider myself very intelligent. I will, however, make a seperation between being smart and being intelligent. Being smart involves training, memorization, and practice where intelligence is more of a natural ability (which can lead to being smart). While I don't really put much stock in tests (especially ones that supposedly measure an unquantifiable aspect such as intelligence) but for the sake of this thread, it would help to put a number out there. While I was in high school, I took an IQ test and scored a 150. While that test may not be the most reliable, I also took the SAT and scored a 1350 (after staying out half the night before and showing up late the day of the test and never even attempting to study for it). Several years later, when I was enlisting in the military I took the ASVAB (armed services vocational aptitude battery) which I scored a 99 overall on. (they grade this test based on out of 100 people how many you score better than.....not any kind of percentage of right or wrong answers)
I say all of this, not necessarily to brag or boast, but to illustrate that I believe this theory may have some merit.

i dont consider myself intelligent.
im not stupid .. but if i find myself having to use my intellect during a day, i start to wonder what went wrong to get me into that situation.
i know ive seen similar sites that talk about higher intelligence in TS's ,..
but then i also remember going to a site that suggested that TS's were a super race of people who were placed on the planet by aliens to save the human race from coming threats and disasters.
sorry, call me cynical, but i think id let it slide a little at this point.......

I have also read that M to F TVs, CDs and TGs are of above average intelligence and usually have a very wide general knowledge. When last tested my own IQ was 126 and I am one of those type who do well in Trivia Quizzes, the General Knowledge part of Mastermind, University Challenge on the telly, playing Trivial Pursuit etc. The only questions I fail on are any to do with Sport as I has always bored me to tears and on modern Pop Music and Soap Operas as I never watch the likes of Coronation Street, East Enders, Emmerdale. or Friends, Cheers etc.

I never knew it was linked to being TS...
I just find myself to be very, very logical. Sometimes too logical... it hurts!

Just take into account that it might be more easy for more educated people to scrutinize the normal gender roles, to square off for the fight of inner needs and outer restrictions, to be revolutionist of some sort and to articulate themselves in general.
That doesn't necessarily mean that TG only belongs to intelligent people.
Even if so. What's the point ? Does it make you feel any better ? Does your situation become more accepted ?
I'd say no.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm guessing it makes some people feel better that mother nature has granted them something (a gift?) to help them deal with a world that perceives them as freaks.
Me? I'm like Wile E. Coyote - Supergenius! :D

This is a simple enough question but an answer that is not so simple.
First a single test is irrelevant. Any competent psychologist will tell you that. Secondly an IQ measures a number of different things so it can be only a guide. (One may learn easily by reading but have no ability to learn from experience or can be good with mathematics and lousy with visual.)
Like Kelly said, there is a difference between being smart and intelligent. Some of the dumbest people I know have Phd's, but so do some of the smartest.
Additionally one needs to measure Personality Type and Emotional Quotient to get a good picture overall.
So I measured 132 (after 3 tests)
Personality Type is an INTJ. (Meyers-Briggs applied 3 different times with the same results.)
Emotionally I failed.
So what does all this mean? Nothing.
Kimberley.

Don't confuse knowledge with intelligence. The internet is probably the most massive store of knowledge on the planet, but it's not intelligent. Intelligence is more about what you do with the knowledge possessed, reasoning ability and speed of thought. Shrimps demonstate intelligence, but not on a comparable scale to humans. Of course, at this point my intelligence is making me ask myself 'is the plural of shrimp shrimp or shrimps?' The intelligent thing would be to look it up before posting, but the lazy thing would be to, not. Guess how lazy I am...
Anyway, I have no idea whether I'm intelligent or not, it really depends on what you compare it to. To the people around me, I'm considered quick enough. You judge for yourself from my posts.
Take care :)

I'm not sure knowledge is the key word- the ability to figure stuff out rapidly - quick responses etc......
I too scored high on every single test I've ever taken and until last year never in my life received an F on anything including a pop quiz!
I spent 1.2 years in electronics school in a military school that had a 70% dropout rate, I was one of 3 that g raduated - I just took to electronics and love troubleshooting.
Math I'm not so good with, but I can fig ure it out eventually (calculus).
English however, I excel at and tha'ts an artsy left brain thing.
I'm ambidextrious too....
Perhaps along the lines a woman's part of the brain is inserted into ours during conception or something - who knows!
I scored about a 150 on the IQ as well - ASVAB - all 110's and higher on individual subjects, 98% overall I believe (It was 26 years ago)...
If I had to guess I'd say there's a good possibility that there's merit to it.

I asked this question last year and got the same kind of responses from people. Its like its some kind of taboo subject or something.
But yes, I think there is something to it.

I feel that people of higher intelligence tend to question and think more about life in general. That would put a higher percentage of intelligent people in our community.
So I think it's sort of a "cart before the horse" sceanario to say that there is a link between intelligence and CD. I think that narrow, closed minded people just would not give themselves this oportunity. It takes a certain breadth of mind to even consider this.

minaki is right on target.logical thought tends to come more natural, like we can say "put that there, push it to the left 2 7/8" and add a plank to make it rise to a 45 degree angle so the rain falls off and don't puddle up ." what i am saying is we can find an answer for a problem easier and naturally, yet some average joe shmoe would have to think things through look, think, ask and may not understand what someone would suggest.it don't have to always be by iq tests only.
it don't make life easier as for the gender part, but we should use it as atool and feel proud to be who wewe are and have the bragging right of being smart, full of knowledge, intelligent people.
one thing i find funny is you can see some that are fetish/thrill crossdressers tend to make a lot more spelling mistakes than TSs.something to think about.they claim women are better in english/spelling and men are better at math.

Kimberley.I generally agree with the idea of multiple aspects to assessing overall intelligence levels via formal testing.
As for me, i'm an INTP Myers-Briggs personality (aka 'future thinker' or Einstein type!), i've done an IQ test and scored 121 (not sure if that means i'm clever?) and have participated in a few other test scenarios out of interest.
However, a single style of testing does not always reflect a person's overall abilities in my opinion.

sillly thread ..everyone knows women are superior tut :tongueout
There have been studies about this. And on average, TS have been found to have notably higher intelligence than average. Just look at how many people on this forum are in the IT business (I made a thread about this before).
I personally am one of the top undergraduate students in my faculty (if not the top undergrad student of the faculty). I have a 3.98 GPA (out of 4.00), and was asked to speak in front of the dean of science and the donators of the faculty because I was one of the few students that had obtained two scholarships at once. IQ wise I never took any accurate tests, but I got somewhere in the 140+ range.

Has anyone noticed a clearly discernable level of humility in the replies to this question? I certainly did! I see that as a delightful tribute to the members of this group, for humility tends not to be a basic characteristic of a typical male. Conclusion: I would believe that we have been nicely modified by this wonderful and delightful avocation/hobby/lifestyle that we so much love.
I was surprised that the notion of multi-tasking did not arise - one of the special and incredible intellectual attributes of females. Therefore the male-ness lives strong within us, for we tend to answer the question and then be done with it, rather than answer and explore as would be the reply with most females.
Myself: I am recognized at intelligent by most who know me but I often say within myself that they "really just don't know".... Aging and injury have modifed my brain powers greatly, and today, I work dilligently at being average at anything I try to do. But, not having been struck "stupid", I am able to discern that I have been happier this way
I am still pretty good with "makeup"! Hmmm, that seemed to have been imprortant to mention....

According to the test I am a genius
IQ = 157.
However these tests have little to do with reality.
I do not believe that as a group we are any more inteligent than anyother "lifestyle" groupings.

Hi,
I usually do not post here because I cannot transition. But I saw this and it is something I can write about.
I have seen some published studies that indicate there is a high correlation between high intelligence and transsexuality, but not necessarily crossdressing. Then again, an argument can be made that many of the transsexuals who manage to get therapy and transition probably are highly intelligent and successful. The process is incredibly Darwinian. The ones who are prepared make it, and the ones who are not driven don't. You all know how hard it is, so I will not belabor that point.
It probably is a question along the likes of the chicken and egg type. Is there a real correlation, or does it simply appear that there is since the transsexuals who have been studied are the top (70? 80? 90?) percent since they are the ones more likely to successfully transition?
Two different IQ tests put me in the 14x range. I think I did a Meyer's Briggs and got an INTJ type. Just can't remember who tested me; it was a long time ago. Another test I ranked 99+ percentile on everything but clerical accuracy. Oopsie. Guess I'll not be going for any secretarial jobs.
Warm regards,
Christina Nicole

I'm very intelligent, highly intellectual, when I take the IQ tests i get like 147 (genius) and I grasp stuff very easily, and can remember things that i want to rather well.... but I'm not smart... I do stupid things and make stupid decisions. Oh and I can't spell for ship!

old habits etc.......
The implication being that women are docile and non-competitive, so these traits should be abandoned to be feminine, I assume.
Nice.
Silly me on the other hand, thought that people had those traits, rather than men.
But don't worry, I'm TS and docile, so I won't argue with you. My born female partner would probably rip your head off though, since no-one explained gender stereotyping to her.
Take care.

Hmm. When I was a child, I was tested a few times and came out somewhere in the 130-150 range. Unfortunately, they told me this and what it means, and so for years afterward I was an insufferable little smug thinks-he-knows-it-all... I think (certainly hope!) that I've outgrown it, but kind of developed an aversion to groups like Mensa... on the theory that they're probably full of people just like I was. Possibly not true, definitely uncharitable on my part to even think it, but there it is.
Now emotionally, I'm as dumb as they come...
Ooh, almost forgot... I outright fail the Briggs-Meyer test; it seems every time I take it I get a slightly different result; sometimes I'm I, sometimes E; sometimes N, sometimes S, etc. I don't think I'm schizophrenic or anything; I just always have a hard time with the choices, they never fit with the way my brain works...

My so called brother in law has a high IQ but has no common sense and no social skills. So high IQ and smarts don't always go hand in hand.
I always did bad in school but I'm very much self taught. When I want to know how to do something I teach myself. My ability to learn (when I want to) has made me the go to person where ever I have worked. I have worked at the company for 1 1/2 a year and people that have been here years come to me with questions.
So I will endorse the "myth" that trans people have "smarts".

I seem to run into lots of TS's that are indeed very intelligent. I'm not a genius like a lot of you girls but my IQ is 139 when I got tested. Well I also tested 136 once but I go with da high score! :tongueout
