I found that is your dianosis is TV or GID then insurance will not cover it I found out the hard way. Though it may work out. The therapist has to share her notes with the insurance company. It's a violation of privacy but if I want them to pay I have to.

See if your therapist will agree to diagnose you with depression. It's a pretty generic, blanket diagnosis that most insurance companies accept without questioning. Most therapists have no problem doing this as refusing coverage for GID is common.
A bonus $.02- therapists should not have to share notes with insurance companies unless there is a really good chance that the company is being defrauded somehow. It violates the privacy and sacredness of the client/therapist relationship IMO. It's bad enough so many of us have gatekeeping issues to deal with, and when you add insurance complications and intrusions, it's small wonder so many of us are cynical towards the mental health community.

If you go to a gender therapist, he or she should be experienced enough to know how to bill the insurance company. They do, after all, want to get paid, and getting into a long dispute with an insurance company over your bill serves no one. Your therapist should bill under some generalzed non-specific diagnosis that wil not raise any eyebrows in the insurance office. Just talk to them and voice your concerns.
I suspect that this becomes more and more difficult the further one goes into this.
