View Full Version : Shopping is cool (too hot today actually)

Today (Saturday afternoon), I went shopping for a mini skirt (only bought one skirt before).

Took about 3 hours as I couldn't find what I wanted in a lot of stores (gosh it is tiring in this heat). Debenhams, New Look, Marks & Spencer, BHS, BeWise, Dorothy Perkins, Dingles, H&M, Next, Gap, Warehouse, Primark. Was that all of them? Ha, lost count!!

In Gap, there was a denim mini skirt (which is what I wanted) and a sales lady asked "Are you alright sir?". I said I was, but the price tag of just under £30 was the problem! I was quite tempted to ask to try a couple on for size, but knew I would be wasting their time (if the skirt was half the price then maybe). The thought of asking to try a skirt on is going to be a brave act - maybe at a more quiet time and not on the busiest day!

Ended up buying 2 skirts from Warehouse instead (they were having a summer sale  ). Bought a dark denim mini skirt and a grey below the knee pencil skirt. At the checkout I asked whether the zip was at the front or the back. She said the back. But how dumb was I? :o .The denim zip is at the front though.

A new Primark has opened in Exeter, so thought had to check it out! They are renowned for good value if no one knows. Only looking, but ended up buying a satin chemise, 3 bras, 5 pairs of knickers, a pack of 5 pairs of tights.
10 items for only £20!!

Got home to try it all on. The 2 skirts - well both a UK size 8. The denim mini fits nicely, but the pencil skirt is too loose. The same size in the same store, but different fittings - now I am confused! :( I will have to go back (that's the advantage of trying on in store isn't it?).

Have to go back to Primark as well. The chemise is just too tight. Also one of the bras is a Secrets Possessions Extreme Plunge Gel Bra. It has a very long strap that I do not know what to do with. Anyone have this type of bra at all? It has pockets inside the cups with removable gel inserts. Gosh with them it looks like I've got boobs!! The right look, but not the right touch. Maybe I can ask a sales assistant what that strap is for (perhaps by giving a demonstration :heehee: )

Trying the skirts on, I have mixed feelings. A slight sexual excitement (which I never expected), and a mature one as well - which is like that of being a grownup woman rather than a little boy. Anyone understand?

That's all I want to say at the mo. Sorry if any of you have got bored with someone's shopping trip. Just that is was a pleasant day for me, so thought I would share my experience.

Yes, it's fairly necessary to try on the clothes at the store. Nice air-conditioning I bet. Thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed reading your post, it's always such fun shopping for femme gear; sounds like you had a great time. When you return the skirt that doesn't fit, ask to try the next size down in the changing room, it takes some nerve first time, but I doubt that they will refuse you.

I'm jealous that one of the size 8s is too loose!!

Yes, shopping is always nice because it's the thought of getting something new that is exciting.

I went back to exchange the pencil skirt today. Ended up seeing the same sales assistant (a cute young blonde called Rose). Explained that I bought a skirt yesterday, but being too loose. They never had a smaller size today - they went quick in the sales!

I asked Rose whether she had anything similar, then mentioned that I noticed some beige ones. She took out a size 6 and asked whether I would like to try it on!! I could not believe that! I mean I was in drab mode - no makeup and slight stubble showing (can never get it completely off with a razor). And she said it in a way that was so natural!

I was almost speechless, but managed to say "Well, it is for me...Actually I'll take an 8 as well, just in case".

So, off to the fitting room. All in one area as Warehouse only sells ladies clothes. Tried on both skirts, and the size 6 did fit me better. Even though I have slim hips, a pencil skirt still clings to my curves which looks feminine.

Back to the checkout to exchange. Very simple. I am wondering why there should have been any nerves in the first place. For anyone reading this who have never bought ladies clothes before (especially to try on as well), JUST DO IT! It is a pleasant experience.

Many people have read this message, but not many replies. Shame, but encouragement is sometimes best from within. It is more a confidence thing.

:D

Nice follow up! Size 6, lovely - although I have found that's the size that's never there at a sale! Sounds like you've a nice contact at that shop - good for you.
