Hello,
Wouldn't it would be neat to be able to shop/try/wear a bra without shame or fear?
Isn't gynecomastia increasing? And crossdressing more and more accepted? I wonder if any of the mainstream lingerie companies are seriously investigating it?

It is great to shop and try on bras without shame or fear. I'm sure that in a city the size of New York there are at least a few retailers who would be willing to fit and sell you a bra. I've done it in far smaller cities. The sales ladies have been very helpful and understanding, there is nothing to fear, the feelings of shame are all of your own doing.
Look in the yellow pages for Department Stores, Clothing, Lingerie or Bras call the store, tell them you want to buy a bra for yourself and ask if they can accomodate you. In the unlikely event they say 'no' go on to the next one.
Get out and enjoy!

A funny story on that note, I went into a store looking to buy a brain my size. I'm tired of stretching my poor wifes old bras out. As I'm standing there
looking at the rack of bras, trying to figure out how they have them orginized,
some guy ( I think he may have been an employee ) walked by and said "Those realy aren't your style." It was pretty funny I thought, but as I looked around the store & realized how many people were there, I decided that for now he was probabley right. Maybe next time.

when i first started to crossdress if soon found my size, im a 38-42 depending where i shop, 38 if its in debenhams and 40 if its ann summers, i got a nice ivory basque from debenhams, one in my avatar, and got lots of sexy bras, suspender belts, panties and stockings ect, i just go and buy it without fear of embarressment and sell it on e bay if it does not fit me, which i have never had to do yet, i must admit though, i have been to ann summers and debenhams so much i know most of the staff there, they must have some inclination that its not for a girlfriend at all, gives me a buzz though when the girl at checkout gives you that sexy smile

Dear Princessmichelle,
ANY store in NYC that sells bras will be happy to sell you one without any shame, guilt, or fear. All that shame, guilt, and fear is in your mind, not theirs. This is how they make their living, how they pay the rent and pay the utility bills. They WANT you to buy a bra. Really, they want you to buy 100 bras.
If you want to go to a really nice place that caters to the CD/TG community, go to Frishmans, 250 White Plains Road, the Bronx, NY. They will welcome you and treat you with kindness and respect. They have a large and well stocked area devoted to the CD community. You'll love it there. They have been in business for a long, long, time for GGs and really know what they are doing.
They have a web site so you can see what I am talking about. It's www.frish.com
There are many other places devoted to the CD community in NYC, but you really don't have to feel that you can't just shop anywhere you want. Especially in NYC, the capital of the world for "anything goes".
And wearing one without shame, guilt, and fear? Just go ahead! Wear a loose shirt over it if you feel self concious. That's what GGs do when they feel that way. Believe me there are PLENTY of GGs who feel self concious about their looks. Just look around you. Lots of GGs dress in baggy and shapeless clothes. What do you think is going on there? Yes, we CDers are not the only ones to feel self concious. So go ahead and wear one. It's fun! And that's what this is all about isn't it?
Good luck, dear. I think you are very lucky to be living in NYC
Lovies,
Stephenie

This is a bot like the Manties Vs REAL Women's Panties argument.
Manties are panties made specifically for men, and to me that defeats the whole idea. I want to wear WOMEN'S Underwear NOT Men's even if over here in the UK, men's slip style briefs such as Speedo etc are very similar indeed in design and features to Women's. Part of the thrill to me comes from the fact that I am wearing Women's panties. So when I wear a bra when indoors at home I want a bra made for a woman of my build not some version designed and sold as being for a man.

Hi Brooke.
I presume that you meant to say "bra in my size" and not "brain my size". :D LOL!!! You might want to edit that one a bit.

I buy Bras at the Lane Bryany Stores ( www.lanebryant.com) and have even tryed them on in the stores. I shop a lot at the Lane Bryants and have never felt uncomfortable using the fitting rooms even with other men in the store just watching there wives shop. Gynecomastia is interesting especially if you can buy a great fitting bra and you can actually fill the cups of the bra your buying.

I buy most of my bras in department stores and never felt ashamed of browsing through the various models.
However I've never asked to try my bras in the store... I think I will do next time... After all, there's no harm in asking :heehee:
:hugs:

Hello all,
Thanks for the encouragement.
Many responses concerned stores willingness to make sales, especially in this geographic area: yes, I have been lucky in that regard. :o
Stephanie: I also liked your comment about ggs wearing baggy clothes, in part to hide _their_ bras.
Helen: I was struck by your idea that part of the appeal of bras is that they are for women. If bras ever were marketed to men, I'm not sure I would be as interested.
Maybe I'll start a thread just on the marketing to men idea.

But wait a minute Helen, has anyone heard the rumor that Bali panties are actually made for crossdressers. Look at the crotch of the Bali Skimp Skamp. It is very wide in order to give needed support to the "package". I think they are very comfortable. They are so wide that you can't wear a maxipad with wings because the wings are too short to wrap all the way around. Seriously!!
