Ok, so all these mergers and acqusitions are messing up my fem shopping big time...Federated bought Lazerus who had bought Hornes and turned it into a Macy's....then bought Kaughman's and closed it because it was next to Macy's....Sheeezzzz!!
But the sign just went up today (can see it out my office window and yeah I should be working...) where Kaughan's was, and its a BOSCOV'S?? Never heard of it! I checked their web site and it was highly mediocre!
So what's the scoop on this store? As far as women's clothing? Selection? Price? Dressing Room policys? TG friendly or not? Do they need a TG spokes model? :D They are in 6 states so someone must have shopped there before!!
Helppppp!! Only says "Opening Soon" but there are 40 trailers probably full of womens clothes in the parking lot right now!! The anticipation is killing me!! Hehe

Boscov's is mediocre, but they have a halfway decent selection of mid-range clothing, more into standard styles of fashion than anything newer or cutting edge, but worth a looksee when they open. I've been in a local store, but left empty handed as other stores have better selections and more attentive help.

The three most dangerous places to be in the USA:
1. In any mine;
2. between Bill and/or Hillary Clinton and a TV camera;
3. between Karren and any store with the word "SALE" in the window.

 Ok ok so Karren has the female shopping gene. we can't fault her for that. Hope they have lots of Vanity Fair stuff. I was in a little piece of heaven when I stopped in at a "Factory outlet" store in Livingston TX a month ago. Un-attended dressing rooms and a sales staff the smiled discreetly and complementing me on my purchases. Tiffany

Maybe its just me, but Outlet Stores always seem like.....
"We took back everything we could not sell in real stores and piled it up here for you."
That and they never seem to distinguish between what merch is there because people in real stores did not want to buy it - ie, it was unpopular, out of fashion or whatever - and that which is "second" quality that they could not sell in a real store in the first place.
I guess a lot of this has to do with a Quanity vs Quality deal, that perhaps should be another post, which I will do.

Karren -- Boscov's is on the higher end price-wise. My wife has bought some clothing and shoes -- but usually on sale. Watch for register roulette! I don't know what their policies are (it's one of the unconquered stores in my area!) and I don't know if I will because my wife and I go there or through there quite a bit. Just wait and see and try it.

I like Macy's, but out here they replaced the old Emporium stores, so no big loss. There are always nice little trendy boutiques, where the service is much better.

I live in Boscov's Central.
Their pricing is mid range and they do always have a sale - I am persoannly addicted to their handbag section.
They do have a decent womens section and I find as with most department store environments - they never goout on a limb like designer stores with fabrics, textures and styles. That's okay - I find the clothes I want then hit the accessories - scarves, jewelry, handbags, shoes and make my choices stand out with KILLER ACCESSORIZING!
My newest "thing" is pins. I got a great collar style necklace (an omega chain works well to) and I go buy a handful of really unusual pins and use then as slides as I find pins come in every style, shape, and color and are usually ALWAYS ON SALE! Its pretty easy to match up pins to my clothes than finding afforable fashion jewelry that isnt going to look like crap 3 months from now because it tarnished etc. . .
The collars lay right at the base of your neck and I love the newer adjustable ones that stay at mid neck level... something about a collar - - - hmmmmm perhaps a fetish emerging.

I would put Boscov's and Kohl's in a similar category. Like Kohl's they have a "sale" flier in our paper at least once a week. In addition to clothes, etc they have some small appliances, electronics and usually a Ritz Camera section and lots of YUMY candy at Christmas !!!!

Boscovs started in Allentown, Pa. and has grown in size over the years. My late wife and I have shopped there for many things including womens clothes. When they started they didn't sell furniture, large appliances and televisions. There clothes are mid range. Depending on the store the sales people are very considerate. I have never tried to use the dressing room in any of there stores.
We found Burlington Coat factory a better place to buy clothes.

I weld in coveralls with leather protection and that way cool Johnny Quest Welders faceshied/eyeprotection, how else would one weld? And though there is a lot to be said for fabricating and building, still, I'm kinda partial to a good cutting torch and just chopping stuff down into bit-sized (Or truck size at least) bits, hauling it off, and selling the scrap. Next to Victoria's Secret I think that scrap metal yards are my favorite places.

Of course you do understand that after the heist, we will have to dump the Ranger as hot. Which is why I talking about the tractor, in for a penny, in for a pound.

They are actually headquartered in Reading PA and it started there, not in Allentown. When I was in the Lingerie consulting business for the trade association, we did some runway shows there.
They are a privately owned company, and Mr. Boskov (now 91) is still active in the company. I was amazed, to say the least, when they decided to buy some of the Federated stores. Looks like the family is trying to break into the big time.
It seems like they are about the only general merchandise, old line, department store left in business other than Sears.
They do have some good stuff, but I usually shop at Kohls where the prices are cheaper and have better sales.
Shop around when they move to your neighborhood. You may like some of their selections.

Don't know if this will help any, but check out my post in the TG Jewelry thread. The bracelet pic I posted there is of one I bought at Mervyn's for 30% more than they're selling it on the Boscov's website.

Just a note: Hess Brothers started in Allentown, but they are long gone, too.

Hi Karren,
Boscov's is a real favorite with Missy Anne and me. We bought four lovely party dresses from Boscov's for Missy Anne. Most of the skirts Missy Anne has came from Boscov's. They have great sales and a large selection.
We love Fall and Winter, so that's when we do some serious shopping! I can't wait for the back-to-school sales, because the Fall styles can't be far behind!
If you like Kohl's (as we do, too), you'll like shopping at Boscov's! :c9:

Hey Girls,
I think the reason for so many trailers is that they heard that Karren was in the area with her credit card!
Hi Karren,
I am with you for the caper whenever you are ready. Let me know what you think the best plan of attack would be.
How will we divide the loot?

It's also the issue of whether your time or money is more valuable to you.
If you're willing to invest the time, you can find great deals at outlets, thrift stores, eBay, etc. But as you've said, it usually means sifting through a lot of dross to find some gold.
Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes not. I do a lot my male shopping at a particular Nordie's Rack in LA that's got some very hip fashions (and seemingly is stuff that's sold directly there, i.e. it's never stocked in the main stores). But Rack merchandise seems to be very location-specific and the Bay Area stores don't carry the stuff I've found there.

Oh be still my heart, I love a girl who can use "dross" in a sentence.
