I decided long ago that I wouldn't buy fur for my wife unless it's off an animal that we eat. Naturally, it would be hypocritical for me to wear furs myself!

Today's synthetic furs are superior to the real deal.
Please don't support killing animals, it's such a small step to killing humans.

NO,
absolutely not I would never in my life support the fur trade. It is known for it's cruel and unethical behaviour on many fronts not just the bush.Besides fake fur is so well made today that one can hardly tell the difference.Yes I AM an avid animal lover, can you tell? lol!
I would wear fake fur yes, with a little lace underneath of course, ummm!

I would not even think of wearing real animal fur. I'm somewhat of a hypocrite because I'm a real meat consumer. But, killing them for their fur is unacceptable. Wouldn't be so bad if the fur provided a warm blanket for someone, but, as a fashion statement, no way!

Well I'm with the majority so far in this thread, fur will always look better on the animal it covers. No fur for me as previously stated in last thread to pose this question.

I was trying to work out whether it was Real ladies or Real fur that you were on about.. As most have said tho, the synthetic ones are everybit as realistic now so there really is no need to spend a fortune on the real deal. Its cruel and hideous to do it in the name of vanity.

Felica, You like furs, most gals don't. Simple as that. Originally, furs kept people warm in the Winter. Nowadays, we have other methods. I prefer to keep my furry friends safe in the wild where they are happy. They need their coat in the Winter more than I do for sure. Personally, I'd rather see a fox or beaver, etc. in action rather than on my mantle or around my neck. Take care, Ericka

I used to have a hip length rabbit fur jacket and loved it but I gave it to a lady friend. At least it didn't get thrown out in the purge that came shortly thereafter.

So that you dont feel to stupid, most fur coats are made from animals that are farmed. As for coyote and fox they are vermin in most parts of the country and destroy more livestock every year . In most states that they have moved back into there is now a bounty on coyote.Raise sheep cattle or goats and loose a few to them and you will destroy them to protect your income.Dont want a fur coat but the coyotes and fox i will get rid of them any way i can.:2c:

When I lived on the farm in Iowa there was a fox on the property. Never could find out where, but of course the beast was a fox and there is a reason that word became a verb for humans being cunning and sly.
But on the early mornings, when the mist was lifting off the fields, and sitting in the twilight as the darkness vanished sipping my coffee I would sometimes see it, doing its rounds. It was always the omen of a good day. As I sit here now in the heart of the city watching huge (and if you have never seen them its hard to imagine how big they really are) oil tankers slid across the waters of the Bay I think back and I miss that fox and what it represented.
In many areas we (mankind) has found that when the natural predators of the ecosystem are vanquished other species multiply far beyond the capacity of the land to sustain them - often with very harmful effects. They have lost their natural population control, and like anything that is out of balance, bad things ensue.
As a species we need to remember that we are only a part of the entire system of life on earth, and we forget that at our own peril, we forget that and risk the very survival of our species.
Like the old ad said, "Its not nice to fool mother nature." We are finding out how mad the old lady can get and the effects of Koyaanisqatsi - the Hopi word for "Life Out of Balance" - are becoming obvious to anyone who is paying even moderate attention.
"There are things you can replace, and others you cannot.
The time has come to weigh those things.
This space is getting hot, you know this space is getting hot."

I have a fur coat and love it!!
My people ( Apachie Indian ) have always worn fur. I have no problem at all with it. Some do and that's ok too.
Mankind has always looked to his enviorment to provide the things he needs; food, water, and shelter. These thing come from somewere regardless of where you live or what you do. Think about it.
Not trying to start a fight just sharing my thoughts........

I'm with the majority here - anyone who seriously beleives that it's OK to kill an animal and wear their fur should seriously consider that that should make it OK for me to kill them and wear their skin.
Sick? That's exactly what it is. Animals or humans. No difference. Don't wear real fur.
So that you dont feel to stupid, most fur coats are made from animals that are farmed. As for coyote and fox they are vermin in most parts of the country and destroy more livestock every year . In most states that they have moved back into there is now a bounty on coyote.Raise sheep cattle or goats and loose a few to them and you will destroy them to protect your income.Dont want a fur coat but the coyotes and fox i will get rid of them any way i can.
Killing animals to save your income is futile and pointless. In order for it to work long term you'd have to kill off an entire species. (Kinda like what Hitler was trying to do, no?)
Instead of pointlessly killing animals who are just trying to survive, farmers should invest money in better protection from predators for their livestock, better fences, enclosures, etc.

I can't afford one at the moment, but have no objection to them on principle. After all I eat animals. I wear leather. Ususally the reason people object to fur is because furry animals tend to be cuter than cows.
Personally I will worry about animals rights after we make sure people have them.

Sorry but I think your above statement, in favour, or for is exstreamly thin! We eat cows, and we about use every part of the cow, from it skin, for leather, to the meat to eat, even it's guts are used (for making cheese), no part of the cow, or pig, is not useable in some way or another, hence the animals death has other perposes to serve than just to cloth us, from skin to bones, the whole animal is used, even rabbits we eat, but you don't see people wanting rabbit skin coats so often do you?
As for the mink, it stripped of it fur, purely for it's skin just for that sole reason, I'm not in favour of the mink as an animal, it's a pest, but there again so are many others, but we don't skin them to wear as clothing, how ever we do eat pigs, and cows, and hence leather I feel just can not be compared with fur.
Maybe if we worry about the animals rights, who know it might even catch on in humans!

Well actually it a common misconceptino that the carcass from the fur trade are wasted,
"The fur is obviously valued. But even the meat and bone of a dead mink are usually not wasted: the dead bodies are usually sent to renders, where their fat makes a prized oil. The manure of the living animals is valued by farmers."
There is more to fur farming that is commonly believed. Have a gander on the web for Richard Norths Article on the fur trade.

it is wrong to kill an animal just for the fur,if the fur comes from an animal your going to eat the animal than it different it's by product of the meat industry. but just for fur it should be banned

I am all form banning the trapping of certain types of wild animals.the common trap in use now is cruel and non-arbitrary about what it catches. The common leg hold trapis what we see in the commercials from PETA.As swiss susan stated the entire animal is used in the farming of fur animals. The carcass is used to make oils that go into perfumes and other health and beauty aides. The flesh of the carcass is also turned in pet foods and livestock feeds. Not one thing is wasted. When man stopped hunting and trapping vermin type animals they became overabundant and it is now that we have farmers and ranchers having to kill them to protect their livstock. When you loose a valuable bull or cow to coyotes or other predators then you will know what true waste is they will only eat one meal then they go hunting for more.here in texas coyote are vermin and nothing else. The bounty in most counties is only 25.00 and the pelt is only a few dollars.compare it to a 100000.00 bull.then it makes sensae to get rid of them:2c:

For all of you who dislike the fur trade or "cruelty to animals" you might want to do some homework.
There is nothing in your home or in your possesion that cannot be traced back to animals or nature in some way. Nothing.
Animals have been used for everything. Fur is "all natural". Why are some animals soooo important and not others??
My parents have around 150 cows, all for the purpose of food. I'd kill and skin any cyote or other vermin like mink that came close to protect them. With and average price of 8 - 12 thousand per cow who wouldn't protect that invesment.
Horses are no different. Why not complain about them?? They are infanatly more majestic and valuable than a mink. Find me a time when a mink saved somebody. Horses have, so have dogs.
Dog's still get eaten in some parts of the world and horses to. Oh well minks are so grand though.......
Just can't quite figure ot why?

First let's be clear - PETA ( People who Eat Tasty Animals ). :D
Yes, I bowhunt, yes I eat what I kill, Yes I utilize the skins. I believe in fair chase, and I have wonderful deer and elk hide coats, gloves etc.. Yes I built a house and ruined animal habitat. Yes I drive on roads that have encroached in the forest. Yes, I even hit bugs with my windshield, and destroy bacteria. Where do you draw the line and say it's O.K.?
What I'm wearing here is a Russian squirrel. No I didn't kill them. Wish I had though, cuz I love squirrel stew!

There is the real point.
For some it's to far and others it's not far enough.

Where do you draw the line and say it's O.K.?
Survival. You can kill an animal for the primary purpose of food only. And since we have the ability, and we are intelligent enough (well, some of us, at least) to know about pain and suffering, it should be done in the most humane way possible.
That's human to animal. Human to human it would be the same - I don't discriminate, personally. Although it's very unlikely you'd kill a human for food, the key word is the same - survival. If someone is attacking you to the death, it is OK to kill them in self defence.
It's wrong to kill humans for sport, fashion, or anything that you don't depend on for survival. As much as I'd like to hunt Chavs, it's wrong and illegal. As I said, I don't discriminate. It's wrong to hunt or kill any living thing for anything other than survival.
As for bugs on the windshield, there's no real way for you to help the fact easily. As long as you're not out driving for the sole purpose of killing bugs...
The bounty in most counties is only 25.00 and the pelt is only a few dollars.compare it to a 100000.00 bull.then it makes sensae to get rid of them
So basically you value your money more than life? What if it was your life? Or your wife or kid's life? Could you put a $$$ value on that?

i have not got a problem in killing an animal for food what ever the animal is whether it be a cow sheep or a dog, but killing for fur is wrong! the other point that has been brought up is vermin. The killing of vermin is need they destory crops and live stock but i don't see that as the same as say killing a mink just for the fur. (a bit off the point what do people feel about Fox hunting with dogs)

First we should all realise this thread was not about our views on the fur trade.
Second the original post did not mention real or fake fur.!
Third I don't believe it was an invitation to debate the fur trade.
If there are those who wish to debate this perhaps they should join the politial and news forum.
Felicia was asking if others enjoy wearing fur, wether it be real or fake.
Lets not let this subject get out of hand, and keep things in perspective.

I do have some sympathy with your opinion, but killing animals for food or to protect your source of income is not the same as killing animals simply for the production of vanity or luxury items, which furs undoubtably are.

no furs for me.... i like silks, satins, lace, taffeta, nylon, chiffon, polyester, viscose, rayon, etc... all man made.... I hope no animals died to make any of my favourites. Furs, imitation or not are a definate no go... I have a peaceful life right now, going out wearing such attire would probably get me assaulted by the animal protection league or the like, even if it was imitation... as one can always assume!
I might eat meat, but wearing fur.... no way... that went out with the caveman/ women... to get politically correct (not forgetting the crossdressing cavemen too) wonder if they wore pink silky furs lol, who knows.. maybe even a pleated fur number :) well whatever... we have moved on since then... we are a civilised society now, where the killing of animals are totally under restriction .... but i won't venture any further on that issue....
I think the wearing of furs is soooooo out and so old hat now.....
I feel safer wearing a normal fashion jacket, if i wanted to wear fur i would have been born an animal lol..... as i wasn't I'll enjoy the privilidge of a hair free body.... besides it doesn't itch so much either lol and tights or stockings wouldn't go on such hairly legs... lol
all the best
Melissa
