I have had everything except my beard treated and can tell you that it is noi pain free and it dosen't work well on light hair. After three sessions on my back I still have to have it waxed. My legs are passibly male in the hair department but far thinner than I started out. Be prepared for many sessions and be sure to get some emla to apply before the treatment. Good luck and you can email me for more information.

Hi Kristy,

I haven't had laser hair removal yet, but guess what? I have my first appointment on Friday afternoon. I'm hopefully going to have the ability to grow a beard permenantly removed. I'm thinking that no beard shadow will improve how my foundation will look.

PM me after Friday and I'll let you know what happened if you like.

Nigella has had this done and is very pleased with the results, she has had 5 sessions on her face and now can go a couple of days without shaving, she uses normal foundation and only a small amount compared to what she was using, know 5 "o" clock shadow and she not so prickly when we kiss. ;)

Can anyone tell me what the costs are? All anyone says is it is expensive. Just wondering what that means. For a normal male beard, what are we talking about?

What about, legs, back, etc...

I'd love to have it done.

Lynn

Over here Nigella pays £60 a session and that is cheap but it can be a lot more expensive, but guess that don't really help seeing as your not in the UK :)

Thanks Sandra,

At, say £1.9 to $1 exchange, that is about $115 a session. Not as bad as I thought. I assume 3 to 5 sessions are required and that was for a full beard...

Even for the UK, £60 is cheap.

Where does Nigella get hers done then?

Similar thread was posted in the TG section recently. Some info there also.

With regard to price, we are paying for 6 sessions up front (that was the number recommended by the doc), which entitled us to a 25% discount. For full face AND anterior neck -- the whole beard area -- the discounted package price for 6 sessions is $1350 (USD).

If you compare prices, just make sure the clinics you are comparing use the same laser technology. Some salons and spas offer "laser hair removal" but are in fact using IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) machines that don't give the same results.

Hugs,
Marla xx

I just had my fourth session yesterday. After 3 sessions my facial hair has thinned dramatically. My Doctor was upfront from the beginning and told me she could not remove all my hair as I have some gray & blonde. It is working wonders on the dark hair.

I was worried after my third session, I could go all day without shaving then all of a sudden I could not go an hour without a shadow. My Doctor explained about the hairs growth cycle and how some folicals are dorment. Laser will not kill hair that is in it dorment stage. Also, it is probably best to space the treatments about 6 weeks apart.

It also seems to get more painful with each treatment. Maybe thats just me. However, if it kills 80 to 90% of the hair I will be happy.

Also, most laser centers offer free consultations. Check them out, the important thing is that you are comfortable with them. If they tell you they can get rid of 100% of your hair, they are probably lying to you and I would go somewhere else.

There are may good web sites out there on laser hair removal and might be a good start.

Good Luck

I take it, the darker your hair, the more effective the laser removal, right?

I use Skin in Bristol (they have several around in the UK) and I'm paying £540 for 6 treatments. I had already my first two and I can see some results especially on the sides, hairs have nearly gone!! Not big difference on chin and upper lip area though. Not really sure if they use lightsheer though.

Hi Marla, what's the difference between laser and IPL treatment? Just wondering!!

Lynn. As far as cost for laser goes, I went in for a consultation for removal of the hair on my back and neck (I hated when my hair grew back on my neck after a haircut and had no one to trim it for me between haircuts) I was quoted $2,500. I asked what the cost for full body hair removal and was quoted $8,000. This included everywhere (and I do mean everywhere) I wanted on my body except my eyebrows and the hair on my head. I will still need to have electrolysis done because laser will not remove any fine blond hairs or gray hairs. You have to stay out of the sun when having laser or use at least spf 30 sunscreen if you do go out into the sun, so winter is a good time to get it done. I was told electrolysis will cost $30 per 15 minute session and only one hair at a time is removed. Hope this helps

I have written many posts on this topic and don't want to get long winded again by saying it all over.
DON'T DO IT! I let them burn me once a month for about 14 months and it didn't work.
