So, I've been wearing high heels for years and was comfortable in them. I have had a pair of open toe sandles with a 5" heel and a 3/4" platform (4 1/4" effective heel) for years... wore them almost every Halloween when I was younger...

Recently I decided it was time to try something more so I purchased a pair of real 5" heel pumps (no platform) and began wearing them. Well I got used to them really quickly and so went on to a pair of 5 1/2" pumps. I've gotten used to wearing those and am now waiting for some 6 1/2" heel shoes to work with...

I also tried a pair of Ballet Heels advertised as having a 7" heel but because of my size they actually had an 8" heel but that is a whole diffenent story!

Anyway, since I've gone up in heel size, past 5 1/2", the lower heels I used to wear seem like nothing and are really comfortable. It seems it is all a question of what you are used to. Most days I wear 5 1/2" or higher heels for a while so when the weekend comes and I get dressed to go out wearing my 5" heels they seem like nothing... :heehee:

Hi Johanna,

I do agree with you that it's all a question of what a person is used to. If you can "make yourself" wear high heels as often as possible, it does become easier. I personally can wear 5" pumps (court shoes) for long periods with no real problems providing I sit down from time to time.

It's like the story of a tourist in New York who got lost. He went up to a guy on the street and asked, " How do I get to Carnegie Hall?" The guy looks at him and says, " Practice man, practice!" Love and xxxx, Lily

Bettr you than me , Hon. I'm an active person. Heels and myself don't get along much, although I HAVE performed as Ericka in them. I wore my 4" patent leather fashion boots once for a whole day. Didn't think my toes were ever going to uncurl. Like they said, it's what you are used to I guess. Ericka Kay.

This is my first post after a few weeks of browsing. this is the first post that I feel that I can contribute to I am 6'2" tall and heavyset is an understatement(losing weight but it's a struggle) anyway I often wear 6" platform stillettos but strangely enough I could never walk properly in them until I got a pair of 5" pumps that were actually harder to walk in. Now the 6" platforms are not only easy to walk in but comfortable as well even though the heal is about the same if you allow for the platform. the pumps are killing me though.

You are well on Your way to be addicted! i know i am and i can wear every pair of high heels i own comfortably and for a long time. Good thing too as many can be and have been locked on my feet (and i do lock them on myself too)

i also have ballet heels that are much closer to 8 inch than 7 and i love them so that i wear them every week and ta da i can walk in them

Enjoy those heels and keep on walking in them

i agree practice does make it easier

Submissively Yours in high heels,

I never found the height of the heels to be a problem, but I have several pairs of shoes, including flats, that I can't wear all day to work as they rub or press my toes.
I have to say, it's one thing to wear shoes all day, and another to stand in them all day without a break, not even sitting for a minute, which I often do. Almost all shoes get uncomfy then, though the best I ever had were my old DM steelies. Perhaps not likely to be covetted here ;)

Take care :)

A five inch heel in a size 6 is much "higher" than a five inch heel in a size 11... you have to do the geometry - look at the triangle made by the foot and the heel. People with bigger feet can wear hegher heels more easily than GG's with very small feet. I frequently get remarks from some of the GG's I know about how high my heels are, but I can carry it off bettere htan they can. I also do not care about how tall I appear while wearing heels, I am 5'9" barefoot so with heels I get right up there!

There are a few shoes out there that are advertised as 5" heels or whatever but then have a note stateing that the heels are higher in larger sizes - these shoes are made to an angle of the foot rather than simply to a heel height... my ballet heels are a great example of this. Even though they were advertised as being 7" heels they are really 8+" in order to achieve the proper foot position for this type of shoe... I can "walk" in them but just barely! Simply standing is enough of a challenge!

In the end you have to find something you are comfortable in and go with that. I always carry a pair of flats when I go out, a lot of GG's I know like to dance and heels can become very uncomfortable very quickly when you are dancing. :D

Congratulations. I wear a 1 1/2 inch heel for now. I want to go to two inches. I walk in heels pretty good and like how they look on my feet. I have to rest from time to time.

I am curious as to what type of store would well heels that would fit me. I have a rather large foot (Size 13 US), and I have a hard enough time finding male shoes. The only real solution I can think of is custom ordering through a store, or buying online.

I have discovered that its also a factor of the structure of the individual shoe itself, that is how it is designed or engineered. I have two pair of 4 inch heels that illustrate this. One I can wear and walk around in all day without thinking about it and another pair that are very difficult to walk and balance in. In both cases the heel is slim---no "clunky" stuff for me, but the "footprint" of the good pair has a slightly bigger heel, about dime sized rather than pencil, and a strong strap to keep my foot heel correctly placed in the shoe.

The other pair are slides with no heel strap---and my foot can slide off--owch Also the point of the heel is closer to the inside than on the other shoe, which I think is another factor.

Having worn cowboy boots, in my younger days, I have no trouble with heels in the 2 to 3 inch range at all---I think it was good training.

I prefer the 5 inch heels as this puts me as tall as my wife. I just a short gurl. At a mere 5 foot 5 inchs and my lovely wife is 6 foot

I like 4" and 5" high heels. I walk well in them both. Just take small sissy steps.

My 4 inchers initially took me a few hours to master. Since then, I have moved comfortably to 5 inchers and have one pair of 6's. The highest pair still take some getting used to if I haven't worn then in a while. I go thru spurts wearing heels, then not. The first day back is always interesting, even with the 4's. My preference is to stay in the 5 inch heels, as they give me the right amount of swagger when I walk.

I have many heels most of them 4 inches. Lately while wearing them, for a short time, my ankle begins to hurt. Don't know why this is happening and was wondering if there is any ideas about it. If i wear a lower heel, under 4 seems that the pain is not there.

The highest heel that I could comfortly wear is 4 inches. I have tried 5 inches but could not walk in them without either falling down, hurting my knees or using a cane for support.

For a new twist, I have found it easier to wear sandals instead of pumps...

I have a couple of 4" heels. I must be getting use to them because sometime I forget that I am wearing them.
