View Full Version : What is your digit ratio ?

Take a look at your right-hand. Which of your fingers is longer: your ring finger, or your index finger?

John Manning's book "Digit Ratio: A Pointer to Fertility, Behavior and Health" reviews evidence to suggest that the ratio of the length between the ring and index finger is determined during early fetal development, and is influenced by sex hormones, particularly testosterone. If this is true, the fingers may provide a permanent, and easily visible, historic marker of important hormonal events that occurred during a critical time of fetal development, the latter part of the first trimester. This is a critical time of sexual differentiation of both the brain and body.

Generally, males have a ring finger that is longer than their index finger. Females typically have index and ring fingers of about the same length. The ratio of index finger to ring finger length is called the “2D:4D digit ratio". Males generally have a digit ratio below 1.00 -- they have what is termed a "low digit ratio." Women generally have a digit ratio of about 1.00

I'm interested in what digit ratios we girls (and boys) have. To start things off, my ratio is 0.99, my ring finger is ever so slightly longer than my index finger.

Remember, it is index finger length divided by ring finger length. Measure from the first crease to the finger tip.

According to this my right index finder is slightly shorter than my right ring finger, but I am basically left handed and there, my index finger is much shorter than my ring finger. I am to a certain extent ambidextrous, in that I can use most tools with either hand, but can shoot a rifle only right handed. That gave my pc and di's a fit.:D

Wow! on my right hand my index finger is only .86 as long as my ring finger.

I think I did this right.

On my left hand the ring finger is longer then the index finger by almost the entire nail!

Please excuse the quality of the pic and blandness of my nails. I can't have pretty nails at work.

1.06 on right hand 1.09 on left... on right and left hands both my index fingers appear slightly longer than my ring fingers.I always felt that my left side of my body looks more feminine than the right.

Mine are the same length on both hands, and also like Toyah, I have an insignificant Adam's apple. Funny, I wasn't aware of it until I started thinking how I would hide it if I ever went out dressed. No Adam's apple....No problem!!!

What the heck am I doing in Crossdressers.com. My ratio is .91. I shouldn't be feminine at all. LOL. I am left handed, and that is another trait they use the digit ratio to determine.

The interesting thing is it sounds like they never looked at the parents hands to see if genes played any part. But maybe there have already been studies into that.

I'm a lefty as well, and on the right hand, almost the same length with the ring barely longer than the index. However on the left, and I am seriously lefty, the index is longer by abouy 3/8". Also no adams apple to speak of so I won't speak of it. Love and xxxx, LILY

Right hand ring finger = 2 13/16" = 2.8125
Right hand index finger = 2 5/8 = 2.625

2.8125 / 2.625 = 1.07

Lilith Moon

Right hand ring finger = 2 13/16" = 2.8125
Right hand index finger = 2 5/8 = 2.625

2.8125 / 2.625 = 1.07

Metric is easier :D

Right hand ring = 86 mm

Right hand index = 87 mm

Ratio = 86/87 = 0.988

I don't have an adams apple either, which i find greAT!!!

on my left hand my ring finger is much longer than my index finger but on my right hand THE RING FINGER IS SLIGHTLY LONGER ONLY JUST, i THOUGHT THEY WAS ROUGHLY THE SAME BUT TURNS OUT NOT TO BE,
which is quite weird as my left foot is slightly less wider than my right foot! ((what does this mean then if both my ring fingers are shorter than my index fingers (answers on a postcard please)

sorry I cant get my head around the ratio thing (doh!)

:hugs:
