I adore high heel boots. My one complaint is that they are horrendously expensive. Saw a pair of perfect Via Spiga boots and they were 300 dollars. Too rich for me. Can anybody recommend boots that are nice but more reasonable?

Boots are the one thing that must be tried on to ensure a great fit. With shoes, you are only concerned about the foot size. With boots, you must be concerned about the fit of the shaft on the leg, too. A great fitting boot should be snug around the leg, not loose. I have a great pair of Via Spiga black knee high boots. Even with 4" heels, they are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. Yes, they are pricey, but i got mine on sale for $90, originally $350.

Just picked up these today at Payless. They'll go great with my jeans.

Just picked up these today at Payless.

I looked at a few local places, including a store that sells boots for exotic dancers (and others who want to attract attention as they stand around on street-corners...) The Bay had some nice boots that were getting close to my size (e.g., it might be a serious option for some of you, in Canada). The dancer-etc. store only had smaller sizes in anything other than stilleto heels and thigh-high dancer boots... not what I was after and pretty expensive.

After a bit of looking-around I wandered into Payless, and found something with a heel that is about 1 1/2" wide and 3-ish inches tall (not stilleto but not platform), in sort of a western style. Price was about $C 40 (end of season.) I had to go to another Payless store at the edge of town to get the size I needed -- Payless does not appear to offer to move shoes between stores for customer convenience. But it was still worth the trip.

I am sometimes a bit wobbly on those 1 1/2" wide heels, particularily if I am walking in snow, and they aren't the greatest of boots for walking extended distances, but they are fine for getting between places.

Depends on what you mean by high.

I've bought great boots at Payless and Naturalizer. Also have pair of Tommy Hilfiger that are great. If you can wear a ladies 11 or smaller, its possible to find nice boots for less than $100 at the mall.

I wear a size 14. I certainly can't go into Payless. I'm not out so E-Bay & mail order are out as well.

I wear size 10 in sandals but 10.5 or 11 with pumps and boots so I stay away from Ebay. With Ebay raising their fees many people are charging $8-$10 for shipping and you can't return them if they don't fit. Too risky for me.

Boots are a must have for autumn... they are for me, anyway - and will be a purchase in the next few months!

aahhhh, a subject after my dear heart, BOOTS... i have 3 pairs, and i love them to death. i wear a size 12 mens, my first boots i bought were thigh high boots, size 12, opps, they didn't fit, tried a 13, again oops, then i tried a 14, mmmm, oh yea, the company i bought them from were really understanding about it, and didn't put up any fight, in fact when icalled them on the phone about this, they asked if they were for me, and if i was a cross dresser, i of course said yea (their out of my town (i hope)), and they were really helpful. now i wear a 14 both in my boots and in the heels i have. my suggestion, take your shoes size and add 2, then goto ebay and take a look around, there are some many to choose from.

i would love to help and assist anyone who feels uncomfortable with the process. let me know, i'm always willing to help for the good of the cause...

It's one of those things that you have to pay for if you want them and in that vein, the price is certainly dependent upon desire.:D I wanted a pair of boots but I'm too cheap to pay the price they wanted.....so, I didn't buy any....

Later, online, and either Fredericks or Victorias Secret...one of them, had a very good sale on some boots. I loved them and I bought them and I have them....but it was the only pair on sale and probably because no one else liked them....so it was a bargain for me.

You just gotta shop, hun!

There are plenty of stores around here that sell decent, cute boots for a reasonable price. If you have a DSW near you, get yourself there immediately!!! Best...shoe...store...ever! Other good ones (around here at least) are Rack Room Shoes, Nine West, and even Off Broadway.

I am frugal (some would say cheap)! I buy at thrift shops. It takes more shopping to find what you want--and you may accidentally (like me) buy some shoes that are almost perfect. My last boots were slender 3 inch heel, 16 inches tall with inside zipper in burgundy suede--paid $4.99. Goodwill, size 10, although i usually wear a women's 11.
I am going to a Tri-Ess meeting in a few hours. Probably wear my other boots. Blond leather stacked 3-inch heel, about 8 inches up on the calf.
Shop around, at least you can try them on--I go to fitting room for privacy. It is easier if you wear some pantyhose or have some knee highs you can put on to judge the fit. Girls are almost always friendly. At my favorite store they know me well.

Payless Shoe Source seems pretty good I got both the following:

These are nice, comfy, though they are manmade and I can tell the difference when I wear the pair of leather boots I got from the UK (Asda).

My friend has some really nice boots (must be 3" heel at least) and they cost around £80 (so about $150) and for the look (and I guess feel, haven't tried them she has tiny feet) it's probably worth it to pay a little extra.

That said, I'm quite happy with my cheapo boots and they look very nice - in fact they must be okay as I saw a GG shop-assistant wearing exactly the same ones with a very nice outfit that probably cost way more than the boots :D

E-bay is great, a store I recommend is Gotham City online, I can send the link if you would like. They have both mens and womens so it won't be obvious if you receive a package if that is a problem. I shop a lot at DSW, they have a clearance area by size as well as shoes through out the store. Kohls is also terrific.

Have fun, shop shop shop

Ive seen some mention Aldo for boots. Here is my take on Aldo. There sizing doesnt reflect what a lot of sizing does. american sizing versus european sizing. Aldos size 11= size 41 euro which in many shoe manufacturers is a 10. So if your buying without trying them on beware.... So if your shopping online for shoes/boots see if they convert to euro sizing as well. I know Micheal Kors also calls a 41 a size 11.

Brianne is right....you have to be careful with Aldo. Some of their pointy toes do not fit like a Nine West 11.
