whats the best way for shaving legs???

Each person is different.

I use shaving gel, and a Venus raxor. Light, quick strokes a couple times over is good for when you've shaved a few times. To start with, use an electronic shaver (really for head hair) to cut the hairs short, then shave, otherwise it'll take an age to get it all off.

Depending on how much hair you have, you may want to do just the bottom half of your legs, or the thighs too, or even the pubic region.

Hope you do well. And be warned: the skin will take a while to ajust! :)

Work from the ankle upwards one leg at a time.Long hair is a lot harder and you'll go through quite a few razers if you're using disposables.I use gillette 2,have tried ladies but the results were poor. When i shave expecially if i've let the hair grow long,i get in a warm bath, run shaving gel down one leg, then start on the ankles shaving upwards,in short quick strokes, gradualy working up to the knee,be carefull here can cut yourself quite easily, the razor will quickly clog with hair so keep dipping it in water and flick it, eventualy the razor becomes less effective so time for another. For ultra smoothness work against the hair growth but do so with care.Once done shower down dry off and apply a body moisterizer,i use aloe vera,as it dries in quick and doesn't leave your legs feeling greasy, the moisterizer is important 1)seems to help keep spots at bay 2)the smooth effect is lovely expecialy after you've put on some hose.Enjoy..

Besides what's been said already, I also use short strokes, against the growth direction, followed by my soapy other hand. Why? I can feel if there's stubble meaning I need to made another pass.

Hi there, when I have a need to shave my legs I first apply hair conditioner after letting the warm water wet me down. I know this sounds very strange but try it.

The first time I shaved my legs, I just used a razor and gel in the bath, and ended up with nicks everywhere, and blades clogged like you wouldn't believe!. So i'd suggest taking off the leg hairs to a short stubble with some sort of electric clipper, and then soaking for a while before lathering up whats left and using the razor. Be real careful on the ankles, knees and behind the knees, as I have found those areas real easy to nick. I always put moisturizer on them when I have finished, and with stockings or pantihose, the feeling is devine. You'll never go back....cheers jane

I shave my legs(and arms) in the shower, skin wet but no cream, foam, gel, etc. I use one of those disposable razors(save the Mach 3s for the face). Shave from the bottom up and around, only takes a few minutes. The first time might be a little irritating.

I use disposable razors after wetting them under running water.

The best advice is to make sure the blade is sharp and take your time.

Maybe it's just me but after I shave and apply lotion to my legs, if I put on some pantyhose right then, they seem to "hold" the moisture from the lotion in better then if I just go bare legged right then. Has anybody else noticed this?

I've found a hot bath, pull my leg up to my chest and start with thighs etc and work down.......

That tip about using hair conditioner really works!

I tried the Veet - didn't care for it, hair cameback as fast as shaving and it came back with little knobs on the tops, really rough feeling.

Shaving is it for me.......

The second time I shaved my legs, I used Aveeno. The first time, they were a mass of red shaving bumps. Now, I shave them every couple of days in the bath (I have no shower), and it's no big deal. I have waxed them several times with varying results. If the waxing is successful, the re-growth is usually finer hair.

How do you stop ingrown hairs and razor bumps when shaving your legs? I keep having that problem when I shave with my Venus razor every 3 days. I use Aveeno Body Wash before I put on shave gel then I add shave gel on top of that so its really moisturized. Is this a good idea? Does anyone have any tips for good looking shaved legs? I get so envious of girls that have great looking legs in public.

I half to agree about the hair conditioner, it works awesome, providing just enough slickem to keep the razor from bouncing around. Also its less messy than shave gel.IMO.

I prefer the Shick Intuition in the shower myself. It's got the lubricant / conditioner built in and it's quick and easy.

When shaving around the ankles, lift your leg and support it with your free arm, relax your lower leg and ankle and just take it slow and easy. You sure don't want a nick on the back of the achilles tendon... Makes it hard to wear shoes.

Fell in love with using the conditioner. Works terriffic. I switched to a Lady Shick quattro and NO MORE NICKS! None. Asfar as the bumps go, on another shaving post some said to wipe down with hydrogen peroxide. Tried it, it also works! You girls are so smart! Love and xxxx, Lily

Here's an article I wrote about body shaving for Usenet about a year ago.

Rapid Body Shaving

Introduction

I've seen a few posts recently regarding body hair removal, so I
thought I should pass on a great method that was taught to me by a
sympathetic girlfriend 20 years ago. My body hair is fine but wiry
(I don't take hormones) and this method should work on all body
hair, no matter how long it is, although I do not advise its use on the beard.

The secret is dry shaving, with a modified single-blade disposable
razor, using talcum powder as a 'lubricant'.

The razor is modified by removing the safety guard. Thus there is
nowhere that the hair can get caught, clogging the blade.

Now don't get alarmed! :) This isn't as dangerous as it may sound,
since you aren't putting the razor on wet skin. You do have to be
careful at first, of course, until your razor handling 'instincts'
have become 'reprogrammed'.

Safety guard removal may not be totally necessary if you have very
fine and sparse body hair, or are just doing a quick touch-up, but
once the guard is gone there can be no clogging of the blade. As we
all well know, unclogging the blade is normally tedious and slows
down the whole body shaving process. Eliminating this task makes
body shaving less tedious as well as much faster.

Razor modification

I use a simple razor - fancy gel strips are definitely not wanted in
this application! Any plain razor can be used, but I often use "Bic
for Sensitive Skin", which come in a reasonably large pack size.
Very cheap razors have thinner and thus weaker blades, so these are
best avoided, especially if you have tough hair.

The safety guard rail can be removed using a variety of techniques.
With some brands, wire cutters or other small snippers can be used.
Most brands are best modified using a mini hacksaw or a small coping
saw.

Cut the guard rail as close to its end supports as possible, taking
care to not actually damage the supports or the blade itself. When
you have cut through the guard rail at both ends, it will still be
attached to the razor head by several thin pieces of plastic.

Pliers can be used to separate the guard rail from the razor head by
grabbing the guard rail (with the pliers!) at each attachment point
and twisting it gently back and forth. Once again, be careful not
to damage the blade. I'm not very mechanically skilled myself, but
I can modify two or three razors in a couple of minutes, without
damaging the razors or my fingers. Usually. :)

The Method

1. Have a quick bath or shower. This softens the hair, and removes
dead skin, sweat and excess body oils. Dry shaving rarely causes
shaving rash but if you're susceptible, use an antibacterial soap or
similar.

2. Allow your body to dry completely before liberally applying
talcum powder (baby powder) to the regions you intend to shave. I
normally lay out several sheets of newspaper to catch all the talc
and hair. Make sure you cover all areas well, you can always apply
more talc if you need it.

3. Shave the areas of softest hair and softest skin first. This
will help keep the blade sharp. I normally work in this order:
upper part of both legs, lower part of legs, knees and then feet.
Then I take a fresh blade for my arms, hands, chest and underarms.
Try to shave in the direction of hair growth to prevent ingrown
hairs.

4. Since there is no guard on the modified razor, you will have to
be careful at first with the angle of the razor, but it will soon
become second nature, and the guard rail supports will help guide
you and will also prevent most bad cuts from occurring. The
guardless razor is much more manoeuverable than normal razors and
can get to tricky spots that are normally a pain to remove all hair
from.

5. The blade can't become clogged with hair, but talc can build up
behind the blade. A quick tap of the side of the razor head on any
hard surface will generally remove this unwanted talc.

6. When finished, bathe to remove all the talc etc, from your body,
and apply something antibacterial to prevent shaving rash and
ingrown hairs. I use (and recommend) Australian Tea Tree oil
solution.

Summary

Other advantages of dry shaving include:

* Talc is cheaper than shaving creams and gels.
* It's easier to see hairs through talc than through foam.
* No sitting or standing in wet bathrooms for ages.
* No steam, so short-sighted people can shave wearing their glasses!
* Dry shaving can give a closer shave than wet shaving.
Sometimes dry shaving will fail to remove some very fine hairs.
This is no big deal though, since it makes re-growth look more natural.

I hope this information is of use to someone out there. :)
All comments welcome.

You sound like a perfect candidate for the dry shaving method, cutbait. Give it a try! Since you're prone to getting a reaction, make sure your skin is clean before you start. I used to get some kind of shaving rash somewhere almost every time I shaved wet. With dry shaving that never happens.

Hi there... :doll:

Well since you asked, here's my little bit of advice:

Long HOT soaking is a crucial 1st step. For leg & body shaving, a nice bath wouyld be ideal. If you haven't tried this on your face and neck, you'll be impressed with the baby-bottom-smooth results. In the book "Cross Dress for Success" I read about a high-end New York shop that does $20-30 ultra-premium face shaves for men. The results are said to be awesome.

So remember, soaking the area to be shaved in HOT towels first for several minutes is critical (Now Sweetie, don't burn yourself, of course). This can also be a good chance to open your pores and cleanse, but go lightly, since it's really easy to overdo it after such hot water, and end up with too-dry flaking skin for a day.

For any shaving you do, especially if you have sensitive skin that's prone to redness, breakouts, etc., try Aveno's shaving gel for sensitive skin. I've had great luck with it. It's so thick and luxurious, in a unique way. Among other places, Wal Mart has it for like $3-4. I don't mean to sound like a commercial here, but it has helped me.

I used to always get ingrown hairs and red bumps on my neck when I shaved (quite unbecoming for a Lady, I must say!), but not with this. Also, I've tried the new 4-blade razors (i got the vibrating versions, :battingeyelashes: of course!) by Schtick and Bic and they both work great.

Don't forget that using a new blade can make all the difference too.

Hopefully this is somewhat helpful. I'm no expert, just sharing whart I've discovered. Feel free to email me if you have any comments.

Also, I want to mention that I'm brand new here are really love it so far! What a nice community.

Good Luck, Sweeties! :be:

Shaving, Depilatory or Waxing ???

I shave all the time and haven't had any hair on my legs in years now. But I did get a shaving rash at first. That will go away over time as your skin becomes accustomed to being shaved. As for the clogging razor that was many years ago and only happened when I didn't shave for months at a time. But if you shave everytime you bathe all you need is a tune-up shave to get rid of the fine stubble. Simple

Older not wiser, i want to thank you for the tip on using conditioner as a shaving medium. It works great.
I was dreading shaving my bottle brush legs (stuble all around) this morning As i got in the shower I noticed the wife's (gg) bottle of conditioner and thought why not. After a regular soap, scrub and rinse, it was on to the dreaded leg shaving. Grabed the conditioner and spread it on my right leg.did a small test sopt. Oh the feel as i tuched to see if it was working. Finished up and then bounded up stairs and grabed a ruined nylon and draped it over my leg at the ankel. Llightly pulling it up to the top of my leg with out a snag.
once again thak you for the perfect shaving tip

I usually use a venus razor and shaving gel with hot water to give my legs that smooth ,silky feel. I usually follow up with lotion on my legs and other parts I shave to keep my skin soft and silky.
