I have been a CD for a long time, since I am now 74. Only recently have I started openly wearing feminine things, including shoes. I have been wearing a lot of sandals (I have about 15 pair), but none with heels higher then 1 1/2 inches. Yesterday I went in a local Sears store to buy myself a new Bra. Didn't really need it, but I wanted it! Walked past the shoes and there was this beautiful light brown Pump with what was advertised as 2 3/4 inche heels on SALE! I just had to buy them, along with several Bra's and some more panties. A girl can never have too many panties and bra's, can she?
Anyway, I took my stuff home and couldn't wait to put the shoes on. My question for you long time CD's, and any GG that might read this, is how do you learn to walk comfortably in heels? Does it just take a lot of practise, or is there something I don't know? BTW, I measured the heels as being 3 3/4 inches, instead of 2 3/4. I love the shoes, and really would like to wear them out to a TG friendly restaurant in the Atlanta area. Can anybody give me some pointers on walking without a wobble?

Women's shoes heel heights are usually advertised based on an average woman's size (perhaps 7 or 8). Larger size shoes will have the heels proportionally larger, which is likely the reason the shoes you bought are actually 3 3/4 inch. As for walking in them - it is a matter of practice, practice, practice. Wearing a higher heel will stretch your leg muscles in a way you are not used to also. It will take some time to get those muscles properly stretched. I suggest you wear them around at home as many hours as you can over a period of several days before trying to wear them out to a restaurant.

Hi Sissy, Just like Phoebe said" PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. At first it won't be "a walk in the park" but then it will come very naturally, just take your time!!
There is nothing more feminine then looking at a woman who is wearing high heels, hose and a skirt!!!! BTW, have fun in Atlanta!!!!!

You're a lot braver than I am, Hon. Those things are scary. I fell UP the stairs once in them. No way in New York I can dance in them (unless I'm, performing) and do all the dance moves I want to do. Good luck. Ericka Kay

Practice practice practice.
I've been wearing them for years but I haven't really started practicing until recently and I still stumble occasionally. That might be because my heels are all 4 inch plus :heehee: but there really is a point where it starts feeling natural.
Some pointers: start with chunkier heels. Stillettos have a higher learning curve. If the shoes are even half a size too big that will increase the difficulty. Small steps, then work up to a stride.
Umm, make use of mirrors. I've seen plenty of home videos of gurls walking and most of the time they do not look natural because they are trying way too hard to look femme or to just maintain balance. These things should come natural with practice and should not be forced.

Remember that wearing heels will shorten your stride considerably - you cannot walk in big long masculine strides. The higher the heel, the shorter your stride. When you start out try walking just on your toes and gradually put your weight on your heel. Also remember, to achieve a feminine walk, put your feet in front of one another as if you were walking one a line. This will give your hips just the right amount of sway as you walk. Don't wear heels out until you are comfortable in them least you turn an ankle falling off of them!
Good luck with the new shoes and as everyone else has said - practice, practice, practice!

I've worn heels for years and the clue I've found is the width. I wear an 11 wide and I found this store in England called Hay Way shoes and their shoes are all wide width and are so comfortable. I primarily wear slings as they adjust to the size of my foot. I'm comfortable in 4 inch spike heels and can really walk so feminine in them. I love to drive in them and rev my engine up whenever I get the chance feeling that power thing with the gas pedal. I just love to tease men with my revving in heels, they just love it! They feel so good with nylons on. I just love the loud sharp click they make when I walk on cocrete. And when I scrape my heel on the concrete, they really let out a sexy screech. The other thing is you have to get used to the pointed toes. Practice, practice, my dear, good luck.

I beg walking slowly on 3' heel slippers , up when you feel ok to walk faster
then pass to 4' h stilettos pumps and then 4' sandals an 4' mules , the best of all....
the secret is to concentrate on the points of your feets!....
happy training girls!

Practice make acheivable; it doen't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. First, examine why it is so difficult. Most men walk with their feet pointed out and put weight on the outside or their heel. This is natural in order for the leg not to rub against the scrotum. In my case I walked with my toes pointed way out and consecquently I wore down the outside of my
heels on all my shoes. Walking in high heels requires balance to the ball of the foot and less pressure to the heel when stepping. This requires pointing
your toes in the direction you are walking. To assist you in getting your feet straight, tuck so your scrotum is out of the way. Always sit with your legs crossed and make sure the foot on the ground is pionted in and shift you weight to the inside. I have found that, having worn highheels about 60% of the time has not only corrected my wearing out shoes on the outside of my heels, but my feet do not get nearly as tired. As a matter of fact, I can actually walk the same walk as the models do stepping over each foot with the hip jut all in 4" stiletto's. In order to do this, you have to keep your shoulders back and butt out to maintain your center of gravity. Good luck; try it!

I've been practicing by wearing a pair of gender nuetral looking 'cowboy' boots, that have a two inch heel. (I dress fairly andro with no make-up)
No-one seems to notice, but they do (as mentioned by someone above) force you to walk rather femme.

Thanks, ladies! I figured practice is what I needed, and you have verified that. I am going to wear my heels around the house most of the time now, so I can get used to walking like the girl I want to be. BTW, I have already gone up and down the stairs in my house wearing them. Carefully, but I did do it. They are stacked heels, which as one of you ladies said makes it easier than stilleto heels. I do have a pair of them also, with 2 inch heels. I put them on once, and almost sprained my ankle when I stood up! So I think I will leave them until I am more "trained" in the girl walk! I am not going to the
TG restaurant until I not only can walk comfortably inthe heels, but also am comfortable with my make-up ability.
BTW, if any of your nice ladies are interested there is a great location for shoes at www.auditionsshoes.com. I have bought several pair from them and they are great to deal with. They carry up to size 14 in almost every type of shoe you would want. They are also very TG friendly on the phone. I am wearing a pair of slide sandals that I purchased from them as I write this. Love them!!

Hiya Sis. The Gals here gave some excellent advice, walking or your toes at first, walking slowly, the use of mirrors ect. Its all good. I know. I'm a Stiletto heel fanatic and have no problem walking in 5 inchers. Also thanks for the audition shoes web site....Lahr.

Hi there Sissy, just believe us, it is practice and confidence too. The knack comes quickly once you get the idea of short steps into your head, sometimes one foot nearly in front of the other helps. I started with stilettos around your height and the floor seems so far away...Do not go too far with them until your leg muscles and ankles are familiar with them. Too far hurts like the devil afterwards.
Keep of stairs for a bit and then down sideways, going up gracefully is harder..Keep it up

All the advices were well intended, but Johanna R got it right: short-short-short strides. How short? Follow a woman in heels and try to match her pace: you'll be amazed as to how much shorter (and faster!) your steps need to be. Merely keeping your balance is not nearly enough: unfortunately, many of us walk like, well, guys in heels. Swing your legs toward the front, trying to walk along a narrow line, and wiggle your butt as you go. And once you get confidence, shift most of your weight to the heels: only teens going to the prom walk on their toes in heels.

Walking in heels is as easy 1, 2, 3.
1, Put 'em on.
2, Put one foot in front of the other.
3, Repeat

Did you measure the heel from the back or the front? The 2-3/4" measurement was probably made from the front of the heel. If you measured from the back, you got the 1" difference.

I've got a pair of black court shoes with a 3'' heel and they took me a long time to learn how to walk them, the amount of times that I came close to coming a cropper doesn't even bare thinking about!! So can only agree with the other girls that practice is the only way to go.

I have been walking in heels for a while. And I still have to be careful when walking down stairs, or just walking. The higher the heel, the more trecherous. I have a pair of sandals that are 2" and they are SO comfortable. But, the way high heels look is just so much better.

I agree with the practice thing. What I done to practice was I started out with Sandals, then to sneakers then to pumps and kept working my way up, when I felt I had mastered the one moved to the next. I am now upto 4inch heels and it is far more difficult than I thought it would be. Well maybe it could be my stature as well being 6'1 and 250. But anyway that is the way I done it.
